iPhone 4 scratches on steel

This is driving me nuts, I bought a white iPhone 4 some months ago and I take a lot of care of my stuff, so I bought a hard plastic cover, I used to take the phone off quite some times and trying to put it back in the cover resulted pretty hard, just now I realized that there are some scratches on the top of the phone (Where there's the headphones jack and the lock screen button) the scratches are not too deep and I was wondering if I can get rid of them.

P.S. There's no way I could have done those scratches, I have maniacal care of my phone.

Thanks for answering :)

My girlfriend had a hard plastic case and that's likely the issue. Dust gets in there and as the case moves around slightly it causes the scratches. I highly doubt there is anyway to get rid of them and in the end if you have a case on it, who cares if they are there?

My suggestion, who cares? Honestly the phone is meant to be used. It isn't a museum piece. My relative has an iPhone and 24/7 he's checking the damn thing for scratches. Liking his finger and rubbing it; it's really irritating. That's why I'm ranting. Because I've had it with: "OMG OMG! Did you scratch it!? Is it scratched??" no.. shut up.

Back on topic, my actual advice is, well, try some of that alcohol stuff that you get in the pharmacy it cleans everything out. Just keep it on the metal bits and try to get it as clean as possible. It could fix some of the scratches so they don't look so deep or get rid of the plastic build up.

Sorry for the rant but it was really 🤬 🤬 me off.

Well I was in a store once and saw a guy pay $100 to upgrade his (normal) Iphone4 to a white IPhone 4... I thought that was pretty pathetic. Guaranteed this guy would be sitting at home later updating his facebook with a smug sense of satisfaction that his Iphone was white. :ill:

Mine's got the same issue, I blame the stupid now-falling-apart bumper (which admittedly was free). Haven't really looked into ways to get rid of them, mind - they're a sort of weird blemish on mine where the brushed effect has gone shiny, so not the average scratch. I don't think you can avoid it though, just be thankful that the screen's a bit more hardwearing than on previous models I suppose.

There's no way of buffing the scratches out as the metal is in a matte/satin finish. I have a few scratches around the headphone jack from plugging in my headphones, after the first few scratches you stop seeing them as blemishes but instead as cool battle scars. Same thing happened with my iPod, loved it when it was new and shiny, now I wouldn't trade it for a new one even with all the scratches and dents on it.

Small gadgets are meant to get a bit battered, if you keep them long enough they may end up looking like this which is undeniably cool.

I haven't even gotten a cover of any sort (even a screen protector) for my Galaxy SII, so I can't say much.

Hasn't gotten any damage yet from what I can see...

Yeah my Galaxy S has held up well over time without any protection. One very small scratch on the screen (I dropped it at work), and lots of little scratches on the back where it's always been put down and sliding around surfaces.
In the end if it gets scratched up well so be it, it's only a phone and the longest I ever have one is about 18 months.

Cheers Shaun.

Not going to lie, I have never got with any Apple hardware. Ever. People go on about them like they are inventing the wheel, but actually they are just reinventing hardware from years ago, selling it today and with most money placed in marketing the product than developing it. Hence why you have a plastic case on the phone, so that it works. My advice therefore, live with the scratches and be greatful that your Iphone works for now. Beyond that, get another phone from a company that think about things such as the need to hold the phone when making a call or using scratch resistant materials.

/rant.

I bet my phone is more scratched than the OP's:

Now, really, they are meant to get this kinda treatment, so don't worry about any scratches on the back.

I thought someone was grinding their Iphone on metal.
Disappointed now.

Take a little of car polish to get rid of them, but if it's a matte finish you will have a glossy spot where the scratches were or you need to polish the whole frame.

I just got my first smartphone need to fina a good case too, so hard plastic cases are out after what i read here

Get another case that covers them. I don't have a case for mine and have one scratch only right on the apple logo on the back from being a dumbass and putting it on concrete while tanning and it pissed me off so much. Nothing you can do really than accept it and try not to look at it

My wife has a little buffing pad that she uses on her engagement ring which has a matte/brushed finish to it. Daily wear and tear gradually polishes the surface and this little pad brings back the original finish. Maybe it would do the same to the scratches on your iPhone? - you should be able to pick one up from a decent jewellers, especially ones that make or restore jewellery.

You can replace the back really easily if you're that bothered.

If you didn't want it to get scratche, you shouldn't have taken it out of the original box.

Do you not have important things to worry about, like where is your next meal coming from?

Try some Meguiar's PlastX - a wee dab of that or maybe even toothpaste can sometimes work to disguise the blemish.
As a MacAddict myself I can understand your distress - almost like your 787B got scratched, eh? Remember - like some say on here - those little scratches are history and add character to your pet. Also - you'll have an iPhone 5 one day, right?

Cheers. . .

My ipod looks like that, maybe worse.

I understand where you're coming from...but I'm firmly in the "who cares about a few scratches" camp. my electronic devices are always swimming around my pockets in a sea of keys, change, paperclips, pens, etc...no way in hell they're going to stay nice for long.

A scratch on my car on the other hand...:ouch:

Thanks for the replies guys, i also have an iPod Touch 3G and it's sooo scratched you can barely see the apple logo on the back, and about my phone I'm just mad that something that I paid 600+ euros (yes, it's that expensive in my country) got scratched by a ******g cover that is meant to protect the phone, not to scratch it :grumpy:

I'm quite surprised nobody has started selling them pre-scratched like that. After all, they already sell pre-aged jeans, faded t-shirts, pre-scarred guitars etc...

The latter of which is pointless. As a Les Paul fanatic, I can handle honest "battle scars". It adds character. But I'd never pay extra to have someone artificially age or scratch the guitar.

The top half of my Nokia 7230's screen is scratched to the point where it is hard to see what is on the screen.

Everything will get scratched over the period of its life. I just bought my N97m last month and in just less than 2 months I've got some scratches on the side. I recently bought a slot-in pouch which helps in reducing the chance of getting more serious scratches on it.

Sure it bothers you a little but as I said, it will get scratched one day.
