IRL Bid for CART

Its a big story. the IRL have put a bid in for certain assets of the champcar world series. some of the assets were the long beach, mexico city and a canadian race as they want to go road racing by 2005 (id like to see that)

all bids had to be put in i think yesterday. US bankruptcy judge Frank Otte is handeling the case. if he has any sense, he should give the assets to OWRS, not tony george. OWRS will make champcars live on, keeping heaps of american jobs. if the assets go to IRL, hundreds of job will go and open wheel racing will never be the same again.

I sure as all hell hope OWRS get the assets and allow champcar racing to live on. its one of the most popular racing series in the world, absolutely more fan support than the IRL, in america and overseas.

paul Gentilozzi has stated that OWRS will not lose the assets and will increase their bid if nesessary.

go to crash.net to see the whole story plus more.

my personal opinion " **** OFF TONY GEORGE:mad: " i hate him, he is trying to get richer by killing the best form of racing. :banghead: i hope he fails miserably, because if he wins, there will be no more surfers paradise race:mad:

On behalf of every Champ Car fan on the planet, **** You, Tony George

Also confirmed here

The war is over.

You're assuming there will be a 2004 season...

We still don't know if CART will meet the minimum requirement of teams and cars. Even with OWRS in charge, CART is dead, face it.

Car count is apparently not a problem anymore. While we're there, how many cars are in the plans for the IRL? 17,18? That's pretty much the same number, but hey, that series' doing soooooo much better...

http://www.myehud.com/cartbk/docs/99.pdf

Copy of the document given to the judges at yesterday's hearing, if i'm reading correctly. But there's some interesting info regarding car count either way.

The official letters from the car owners to OWRS, confirming the number of cars they'll each enter should the bid be accepted (and it now is) start on page 23. Of course it's not 100% certain, but things aren't looking too bad. Also included is the alledged calendar for 04, with races in Korea and Las Vegas (!)

PKRacing: 2 cars
Walker Racing: 2 cars
Mi-Jack Conquest: 2 cars
Herdez Competition: 2 cars
Newman-Haas: 2 cars
RocketSports: 2 cars
Forsythe: 2 cars
RuSport:1 car
Dale Coyne: 2 cars
Fittipaldi Racing: 2 cars

Which brings us to a supposed total of 17 cars, and that's not including Fernandez, Patrick Racing and Rahal. Oh, and Mo Nunn, too.

The number of cars that show up for the first race of CART will be less then the number on that list.

IRL on the other hand is indeed expanding. The reality is, even though the crowds for IRL races aren't great, IRL has firm sponsers and firm drivers. CART doesn't, CART is dead. The possibilities of CART surviving after this year are slim to none.

your right, cart is dead. OWRS is in control. CHAMPCAR racing still exists. and its better than every irl race ever run combined. al least all our tracks LOOK different. Champcar racing has the most loyal teams and drivers ever, if that loyalty continues, it will survive. and i know that loyalty will continue.

the chances of champcar racing surviving this year are 100%. trust me. so much international exposure. IRL has one race, the 500, that gets shown in australia, and it gets crap all exposure. While ALL champcar races are shown in australia, there is a australian race. champcars are shown all around the world because PEOPLE LOVE IT.

oi RIGHT TURN AHEAD :P

CART wont survive much longer, IRL has won, if you think CART is superior then you know absolutely nothing about business. CART may have loyal teams NOW, but only after they lost some of the greatest teams in CART history. The bulk of the teams left in CART barely scrounged up enough money to run any cars.

When someone like Newman-Haas can't even get good sponsership, it's a sure sign that the league obvious doesn't have enough exposure. And adding races like Korea and possibly South Africa is certainly is not the best way to try and salvage a bankrupt company.

CART has exposure in Australia merely because they run a race there.

And if you think all IRL tracks look the same, you obviously don't know squat.

This question is abit off topic but...Is the cart race a support event for the V8 supercars or is the V8 supercars a support event for cart?

I don't think I'd consider either of them "support races", but CART is certainly the more international series of the two.

no even though it says "equal bidding" the v8s are a supporting act to the champcars. Champcars are an international series while v8s are australian (and going international:P ). both bloody good though

Patrick Racing drops out of 2004 CART Season

Due to losing Visteon as a main sponser, Patrick Racing has given up on CART and is likely to join IRL either this year or next. That's 2 less cars for CART.

There is still a possibility that the cars Patrick still owns will be sold to an upstart team, but the idea of an upstart team in CART, especially without a sponser, is slim to none.

yeah, shame pats dropped out. but last year about 7 teams (from memory, mine is dodgy) started up without much sponsorship buying cars off ex-cart teams. still a chance. rumour has it that jimmy vasser might start his own team. even if that doesnt happen, we will have enough cars and a great year of champcar racing will commence shortly. cant wait, GO ALEX TAGLIANI.

Hopefully an aussie will get into champcars and add to the cultural diversity. i was cut when dixon left cart, he was born in my city before he moved to NZ. im glad an ex-cart driver won the irl in his rookie season. :odd:

bring on 2004
