So, Ferrari got fined $1million for what happened on the podium at Austria. Do you think it was enough? Persoanlly I'd have to say no, but like the Max Mosely said at the FIA hearing, team orders aren't against the rules, and it was with reluctance that they couldn't punish Ferrari for them.

I feel like they got fined for the one good thing they did at the race (letting Rubens stand where he should), so yes - that is definitely enough.

Well, there's the thing - how can you bring the sport into disrepute doing something:
a) that's legal
b) that you've been telling people you're going to do since 1996?

As I said in a couple of other threads, I don't have an issue with team orders as such - but Ferrari could certainly have handled it better.

Yes, and as I've said, it's far better to not punish such obvious displays of team orders, in order to avoid driving orders underground.

I'm equivocal on the fine. I mean, why split it, and have half suspended? It's clear that Ferrari will have stern words with the drivers to ensure it never happens again, so in reality the fine is only $500,000. The FIA is in a tricky position, because it almost needs to means-test the fines, and set them in accordance with a team's ability to pay. It's a tricky situation, and overall I have to say that the FIA handled it well.

I reckon so, it made the point.

So ok the move was legal, but it was taking the proverbial, it was just too blatant.

It's a low fine (in relation to Ferrari's earnings out of the notoriety) but it sends the message out from the FIA to the teams of ‘if you go too far, if you embarrass us too much, we’ll clobber you!’

Standby by for a rash of braking problems and engine splutters… :odd:

$1 million is pennies :2cents: to Billionaire investors at :ferrari:, thats the charge for the way in which team orders were carried out.... The orders themselves were legal..... :D
