Is B spec racing necessary?

Hi. I don't get much enjoyment out of the B spec section of this game but I see a lot of people put a lot of effort to develop high level drivers.

Is it connected to the A spec events you can enter ... cars you can access etc? I just really want to race, not run a team, but I'll do it if it's integral to the game though I hope it's not!

I'm at level 20 now and have nearly earned my super licence na d have unlocked the extreme series.

Cheers, Pb

It's only as necessary as you think it is. Depends if you want the 100% completion or not.

But B-Spec, for all it's criticisms, is a very useful way of getting essentially free money (It's barely work on your own part) and you can win some great cars from it.

The X2010 is a great example of this. You win it for completing the Le Mans 24 Hours in B-Spec. It's way easier than spending a weekend swearing at your PS3 and pulling your hair out!

No you don't??? :confused::confused:

Anyways, B-Spec isn't so bad. It's super easy and you don't even have to be in the room. Just put your driver in a fast enough car (that can't possibly lose) and leave the room, or watch TV, do chores, go to work, go to sleep, etc.

It's free credits and cars for doing almost nothing. Only the lowest level races, NASCAR, the Historic Cup, and Formula GT (actually that last one isn't so bad) are frustrating. Once you get your driver levels high enough, and access to a Formula GT or X2010, B-Spec is like Ronco: Set it and forget it!

That's what I hoped B-Spec would be but i'm finding myself babysitting Bob through many of these long extreme races. Either he won't pass anyone unless you're there to poke him or he'll get out in front and cool down so you have to sit there pressing a single button every 2 minutes like a monkey.

Just a bit frustrated right now.

Its your game so play it the way you want to.

I certainly had no intention of doing B spec at all but I wanted to collect every car in the game so needed a way to make $$$$ and win cars. B spec is a great way to do. Sure its frustrating at first but now I set up a race and reap the benefits. My B spec drivers do better than I do at driving the X2010 and FGT. I hated it when I first started but it has grown on me.

Its not for everyone and you can have a great game experience without it.

My bad. You get it for getting to B-Spec level 35.

It's good to hear that you're enjoying it now. I keep finding that the deeper I go with it, the better it gets. In close races, the strategy is fun, and individual commands to pace up and pace down can have a big effect on the results. Instead of overpowering the competition, it's more fun for me to enter an equal car and manage the race via sector timing. I never get bored -- I'm always busy during a good B-spec race.

You're absolutely right, though, and it's not for everyone, and not even necessary to play the game. If you do happen to like it, it's a great feature. 👍

At first I thought I would hate it, but you know it is not that bad. I turn it on, pick a couple of drivers and then go about my day or go to sleep. It's easy money, and the prize cars are pretty nice. I just hit Level 33... two more to 35 and the X2010. :D

which is a whole lot easier than trying to win the Vettel Challenge while using a DS3.

COMPLETELY unnecessary the way PD included it in the game. The only good it did (in GT4) was to drive for you during endurance races. The GT5 version of B-spec is a long trudge of waste. The races are 2-3 times longer than they should be, and the time cannot be sped up so you spend 4-6 weeks from start to completion even if you'd already 32 lV'd in A spec beforehand with all the cars to blow away the B-spec races.

You have to do the 24 hours of Le Mans a grand total of like 99,000 times to hit Level 40. There are no B-spec endurance races between 35 and 40. I dont know how many times I've done it now, I've lost count and I never actually play PS3 anymore. I'm on Level 39.

With 6 years of planning, Research, development, blah blah blah.....they could have added a "12 hours of Daytona", a 1,000 Km of this, of that, etc. But instead you do the same race time and time again to level up. Its bogus, Either PD didnt think it through or they deliberately wanted to take a **** on their consumers because they could get away with it in the top selling GT franchise.

Thanks for all the replies . . . I guess I'll persist a bit longer and try and get into it because it seems to be a good way to get money and some cars.

Also it hadn't occurred to me that I'd need a driver to co-drive in the endurance races.

And PS. I so wish this game had the Mount Panorama circuit. It easily takes its place alongside the classic tracks of the world. One day it will get recognised . . . Skyline and down through The Esses is hair-raisingly sublime.
