Is Dirt 3 recommandable?

I dabbled in D3 for a few months. Finished completely and maxed out D2 and was aiming to do the same on 3. Completed the story mode on D3 eventually and if i am honest i found it a rather dull grind compared to D2. The ending in particular was very disappointing compared to the excellent McRae tribute on D2.

The main difference of the two. D3 although boasting better graphics and apparent physics may look better eye candy wise, is a more polished technical racer ( no where near GT5 tho ). Its kind of stuck between Being arcady and serious and cant make its mind up. You can of course tweak all the settings. I found D2 to be more arcady and fun. D3 has a stupid pyramid menu system which was quite simply a pain to navigate.

A big part of D3 is Gymkana. Its the trick modes. There is only so many donuts you can do before it does your box completely in. The single player events and some of the in game trophies are a complete pain. Its the only thing i never managed to conquer. Thats said its a novel addition, even tho its taken the series in another direction. D3 has a big bunch of DLC some of which is not great value but which game does these days...

The best part about D3 by far is the online. There is far more modes and party type games available. The great choice and variety is its strength. Its fabulous in party with your buddies, but like the SP gets rather dull playing solo. With only a paltry 8 max in lobby and limited replay value. The repetitive rehash of boring tracks is its only flaw, I preferred D2 to be honest. The party modes in particular in D3 are excellent. Rare to see such novel game modes in racing games these days. Id buy D3 again for these modes alone. It all soon wares thin though. But go for it yes you gotta try them they are very fun.

D3 cant make its mind up what it is! Its trying to be more realistic and serious but thats why we play GT5 dont we ? Maybe its is just me but i preferred the more arcadey D2 and the way it was presented. Both very good games though, and worth a blast if you like rallying. Sadly none of the lads i played with or me play it anymore. i eventually traded D3 due to the onus Gymkana. I wanted a rally game not a novelty assault course. You will be able to pick both these games up for peanuts so very much worth a try. Go for it !
