Is GT Sport worth coming back to?

I went back to PC because my wife bought me a direct drive wheel, iveI been playing PCars2 and really enjoying it but my first love was Gran Turismo from the original right up to GT Sport. Have the updates fixed the ****y penalties and made it worth playing again?

If you liked the penalty system when it was the most severe then the penalty system is still broken. If you hated the severe penalty system and believe that, "rubbing is racing", and that, "if you no longer go for a gap which exists you are no longer a racing driver" then you'll love it.

The current system encourages gentle dive bombing, where you nudge a person out from the apex, pushing your way past them. You can also DQ another driver, tanking their SR rating, by constantly nudging their rear bumper, since it penalizes the lead driver more than the rear driver.

The penalty system has been this way for so long now that more people are gaming it more than ever. It's very easy to retaliate against these drivers but your SR rating will suffer for your vigilantism.

Despite all of that, I still feel GT Sport is worth coming back to. It's still the best game for quick ad hoc competitive racing.

If you are totally into online racing, yes GT Sport may be a good experience for you. According to Kaz, this is the new direction of Gran Turismo: online competition with other users, what they refer to as "sport."
Personally... I enjoy online racing once in a while but the meat of the GT Sport sandwich - career mode - is gone. So I enjoyed GT5 and GT6 much more than GT Sport. It's not terrible, but it's not as good as previous releases in the series. My $0.02

I am not into online gaming but I could tolerate a few online races.
The problem is my lack of competitiveness with strangers. I have absolutely zero desire to play with randoms but that is something else.
The game itself is decent.
It's no GT5 as far as career mode goes, but what we have is playable.

Wait, so you already own it? Easy choice then: just turn it on and try it for yourself.

It's tough to say about the penalty system. It's certainly more advanced than it was at launch. I've had races where I've been punted off-track and yet I still got a clean race bonus because the game determined I wasn't at fault. On the other hand, I've been punted off at the right-hander before the start of a lap at the 'Ring and yet I was the one that got a penalty.

Automating fault is a tricky business with racing. But I'd say, on average, GT Sport does a pretty solid job of it. Plus, at least it's trying. There will always be those folks that learn how to game the system, though.

Just enjoy the offline content, stay away from sport mode and join a league or random lobby, which usually don’t use the ingame penalty system, for your online racing enjoyment.

Just don’t get hung up on one thing to judge an entire game on.

Why would any person ever consider retaliating anything in a race? Most likely the other person does not want to be hitting you any more than you want them hitting you. Most likely an accident. If it was not, retliating aint going to help you as you mentioned. Just race. I encourage all racers to watch a real race before jumping online. If I wipe out or someone wipes me out I wait till its clear to join the track, etc... I could probably go bashing more folks and gain more dr but why do I want to race against a higher dr if I am not? Sorry, I just hate hearing about some "retaliating". It just makes no sense to me.

Well I'm just getting started but it seems like a cool game to me. Play it a time or two and if you dont like it still put something else in.

My suggestion, get back to it. Find the races with the clean drivers, whether it's fighting 1st or 11th, and stop worrying about finish position and rank. Set a decent qualifying time, and you'll see the aggressive "go for it at all cost types" and the ones that just want to have a great race. I have recently races many drivers in sport mode that have put up some great on track battles, and when a pass imminent, rather than forcing a tie up, I have had a few concede and fall in. Great racing etiquette. They are out there. Just got to find them.

Insert the disc into your PS4 and find out yourself.

I'm sorry, but with no sign of change coming to the SR system, this is just the way it is. People are adapting to the system and using it to either cheat or get back at cheaters. Ultimately it's the consequence of it being "just a game".

I dont agree that most contact is accidental. I see plenty of people that will start ramming you side by side to push you off track if you dare to pass them. Also people using the cars in front of them to help them slow for a corner, that accomplishes 2 things, the guilty carry more entry speed while knocking a car they are trying pass off the track. Lastly is when someone dives to the inside of you entering a corner and they enter the corner too hot knowing they have a car on the outside to lean on.

My wheel attached to my PC ( iRacing ). So for GTS, I play with controllers with all aids turned on. Quite easy to drive using motion.

I sincerely wish everyone was as courteous as you are, its refreshing to hear. That was my mindset when
I started GTS. I'd go out of my way to NOT mess up anybody else's race and keep a high SR. Unfortunately a lot of the people who play this game don't see it that way. It seems like most races have 2 or 3 D-Bags with a (win at all cost) mentality who have no problem taking out anybody in front of them, no honor, no shame, just win. Seeing the same guys doing this over and over again gets really old after awhile.

I agree with you that a lot of contact is accidental and I'm guilty of that too from time to time.
Sometimes its just a lack of inexperience, sometimes (like in my case) Ill lose focus and forget
what turn is coming up, sometimes Ill be distracted by my dog freaking out cause someone's
walking by the house. I get all that and take it into consideration before I lose my cool.

Everybody wants to win every once in awhile, so eventually you'll probably get tired of doing things
the right way just to have wins stolen in the last turn by dirty and reckless drivers.

I'm not saying you have to be dirty to win. I still try to race as clean as possible and would rather
finish 2nd or 3rd in a clean competitive race then win by putting someone in the wall, that's not
a real win IMO.

I'm finally at the point where SR doesn't mean much anymore since all it takes some clown bumping
you from behind in the straits and your SR crashes, so what's the point? The penalty system doesn't
know who to penalize half the time and the dirty drivers seem to be good at exploiting it.

Its not a perfect world. There's a lot of good drivers that play this game the right way and unfortunately
there's plenty who don't, it wears you down. Like I said, when you see the same people doing the same
thing race after race its intentional. I don't know if retaliation does any good at all, or if it makes the
guilty reconsider their driving style. I doubt it, but it sure feels good to plant one into the wall just to
take away another win he would've had but didn't deserve, SR be dammed.

I know it probably sounds childish and immature but sometimes an eye for an eye is appropriate
and necessary for your own peace of mind.

If you don't mind doing a online race where someone hits you in the back and you get the penalty come back I would say .
Or otherwise if online racing is not your cup of thee than you still can have super smart and fast AI where you can race hard with , than I would came back .
There is also still the possibility to do some grinding and hotlap but I wouldn't come back for that .

Stick to FIA races to rack your stats up, people take things a little more serious there for the most part. In N. America’s server weekly races are a poop show so I wouldn’t bother.
