Is it ALWAYS a rolling start in GT5?

After playing GT5P, I realized that the grid seems to always be a rolling start and was curious: is it always this way? And, if yes, why?

I would like for it to be just a "standard" start where all cars are lined up in their respective positions. Anyone have any clue if we'll see this in GT5?

No its not always a rolling start, i think its only for daytona, and daytona road. oh and eiger..... and london

In GT5P AI races are pretty much always rolling start for some reason but many online races have a standing start.

I doubt all GT5 AI races will be rolling, I sure hope not.

Most, not all Pro online races are standing start.
The Daytona 800 PP Pro is a rolling start.

So to answer the last question, yes you will see it in GT5.

So, the single player races are always rolling starts and the multiplayer races are a mix?

Why doesn't the single player races have standing starts? Or maybe I'm just speculating at this point. How was it in GT4 (I never played GT4 believe it or not!)

GT4 was mostly standing starts and going my gameshow videos so is GT PSP.

Okay, that's a good point... so I hope they follow in the footsteps of GT4 which I'm sure they will. I can't wait to see more video footage soon to see how they have organized the starting grids throughout the single player. I think rolling starts are cool - don't get me wrong - but I would like to see both included in the game because in GT5P, all of the single player races are rolling starts which kind of struck me funny after the realization. So, I just had to ask, "why?" :D

You will find that licence challenges are more often than not rolling starts, whereas various championship races are standing starts.

I remember a fair number of standing starts in GT4.

Fuji is standing start if im not mistaken.

I personally would like to see no rolling starts, i think launching is challenging and add's to the fun of the start of a race, especially against unpredictable human opponents.

For a little perspective- In a recent AMA supersport race they did the restarts(I didnt see the beginning of the race) rolling. These are all Professional motorcycle riders. Turn 1 was a disaster both times they did restarts. Bikes and bodies went flying everywhere. One guy bumped another, front wheel to rear wheel! It was total chaos and not fun to watch.

My point- Most GT racers arent pro, and rolling starts 2 wide would most likely be the least fun thing in the game. Maybe not, but if every race was like that bike race it would suck, bad.

Fuji GT5P online is standing start.

Personally I want standing start most the time and when we do a rolling start I would like it to be side by side and close.

If rolling starts are still the majority of the races, then have it so that a pace car leads the pack and then pulls into the pits after the flag waves.

I think in GT4 real tracks had rolling start and fantasy tracks had standing start.

I hate GT5's rolling starts. The cars are spread way too far apart and the front runners get a massive head start. It's not fair racing. The AI has to be made unrealistically easy just so you can catch up the the guys in front. I'd like to see qualifying and real standing starts with full player control. Jump the lights? Drive through penalty for you.

I think most of the offline events are rolling starts, but some of the online pro events have standing starts, which I much prefer.

+1!

I only want to have rolling starts on series where the real thing has a rolling start, with all other races having the choice if you want to qualify and which start type you want.

Personally qualy and a standing start is just so much more fun!

Put simply, there are far too many rolling starts in GT. Not many racing series start with rolling starts, and all it does is frustrate you as you are forced to watch the camera pan the cars until you get to the line. Driving simulator? Maybe. Racing simulator? Way off.

Nascar fair enough that how it happens, everything else off the grid for me please.

i think a great feature would be to have rolling starts, where you can actually CONTROL the car. i mean, taking care of the throttle in order not to overtake the car in front or i'd get penalized for it. also watching your back before getting to the start line so you can not be overtaken by anyone either. that would add a lot more to what we've seen in rolling starts so far.

sorry if my english is bad!

Thank you for pointing this out...I always feel this way when racing in GT5. I really hope Polyphony Digital is listening...it seems that rolling starts have an unfair advantage because of the spread...if cars were much closer together, than maybe I wouldn't complain as much but there is quite a distance between cars. And why not put them side by side?

^Umm for online or offline? Cause I remember trying pro physics offline in Suzuka and I still got the rolling start.

LOL, It has been like a year since I raced offline. My BAD. sorry to the guy I quoted, you might (probably) be right.👍

Never realised that there were online events with a standing start, (my net connection back at the house where my PS3 is, is so bad that I cant race online).

But should be moving next month, so will definitely be wanting to give it a try!

In one of the New York races in GT4. The lead car has got about half of Manhattan on you before you even get close to gaining control.

I hate rolling start.

But grid start is also ghey because you usually end up in the lead by turn 1.
I vote it is ALWAYS a rolling start in GT5
