Is it just me...

or does anyone else like GT4 a lot more than GT3? I found GT3 at a garage sale (after buying a used copy at EB Games for $2.99 which had a big honkin scratch in it) before I bought GT4, and I remember feeling disappointed with it. I felt that GT2 was a lot better. Then, when I got GT4, I felt it was a lot better than GT2, and I only play GT3 every once in a while now.

I wonder if the games in the series are true sequals as well...since well...they mowed down the forest at the last part of Midfield Raceway!

The opinion that GT4 > GT3 is an extremely common one. I happen to be one of the few that thinks the opposite.

GT3? Too easy?

Yeah, if you run overkill for everything Turbo Hachiroku in the Sunday Cup comes to mind

Any GT game can become too easy..they all have cars available to make any game more challenging or more overkillish. I actually found GT3 has some great racing, but then I took the time to drive cars which wouldn't overkill the game. My main b!tch about GT3 is it becomes very repetitious...there's lots of racing, but you're doing the same tracks over and over again.

I like GT4 better, mostly because there's a huge selection of cars & new tracks. GT3 has some advantages not found in 4, though.

I like GT3 , but whenever I play it I only ever think about what it's lacking from GT4. Definitely GT4 for me.

comparing GT3 and GT4, GT4 has much more stunning graphics something i look for in a game, aobut 80%), the menu has altering BGM so it doesnt get dull, plus they arent as boring as GT3's. the simulation menu, its more studio like, not a full view like every other GT game. Arcade, the music isn't a boring as GT3's.. setting stuff like gear ratios move faster the longer you hold it. all the icons are small pictures unlike GT3 and it's yellow signs. theres a lot more stuff i like about GT4 but i'll save you the trouble of having t o read it all.

Besides the usual gripes of every GT game (poor AI, six cars, odd pit strategy) and the complaints of both GT3 and GT4 (driving aids, 1st-place AI car far superior to 2nd-place AI car), I'd say GT4 has the edge over GT3 in:

- More tracks, and less track predictability compared to GT3.
- More cars, of course.
- Used lots, because there's variation in your cheaper-car choices.

But there are things I prefer in GT3 compared to GT4:

- Enduros you can play in one sitting, more realistic for a married man who works 50 hours a week.
- Random prize cars, if you wished. At least you knew you could race the care somewhere! I'd like to see that return in GT5, instead of "Everyone gets an X!" which makes re-entering a series far less fun.

All I gotta say is one area GT3 (and GT2 for that matter) has GT4 beat bad is the menu system. GT3 dives from one menu to the next quickly, and in GT2 they had that convenient 4 icon display on almost any screen. In other words, you'd be buying a part for your car. Instead of navigating from the parts screen back to your garage, all you had to do was click on the "garage" icon and in 3 or 4 seconds you were back in the garage/home area; compared to about a half-minute in GT4.

At the time, GT2 seemed slow...but compared to GT4: I'm always forced to change channels whenever I need to get to the next menu screen!

I think (since my chair broke on me, no back) I will fire GT3 up again. I'm in the mood for it.

GT4 got WAAAY too much detail thrown into the menus. Detail that could have gone into the AI or low speed physics.

You could have simple click around drop downs with no detail at all. I'd be happy if it helped the gameplay.

In GT3 you had control over loading and saving. You can still control it in GT4 but you have to have 2 memory cards and its way too difficult.

The random 1 of 4 prize cars worked very well in my opinion because you could do 9 out of 10 races and save, then win the car you want and/or don’t have. I much prefer that too just running the Capri rally over and over, especially since there are so many more cars. The number of cars, to me, is one of the few things GT4 has over GT3.

Mmm... GMC Syclone/Typhoon. Two vehicles that should have been in the game.

But I'd rather have a Corvair with a Buick 3800 with a turbo and high compression. MR, twin trunks, 500hp, 2500lb car... Hmm... *Yes 500hp is possible from a 3800. We're looking at 350+ NA when tuned*

Boo! Series 2!

We've got heads sitting in the garage that would give 17:1 compression with flat top pistons. Hmm... Actually, I think 400hp is an accurate unboosted estimate. And YES 17:1 can get hit with boost!

8:1 with 30psi, anyone? So that's really more like 24:1 compression. Hmm.. And they say that you can't do compression with boost.

I know of a Syclone on the east coast that does 9's that says otherwise. 11.5:1 compression and only 20psi. Not because the engine *Bowtie block 4.3, I do believe that it is punched out a bit* can't handle the extra boost. The truck can't. If it could hook right, they'd have a solid 8.70 or better combo.

There are many small differences (and some gigantic and obvious ones) between the two games, but I much prefer the physics of Gran Turismo 4. GT4 feels much more direct then GT3. I played GT4 for a few months, then went back to GT3 and I kept getting the impression that all of my steering, braking, and accelerating inputs were being filtered through a piece of melting rubber. Sure, I could still get the cars to do what I wanted, but it felt less like I was the one actually doing the driving. Additionally, the drifting of GT4 is much more satisfying; GT3 willingly surrenders the rear grip, but GT4 is much more resilient. Drift is much more difficult to obtain in GT4, but much more gratifying. Finally, low-powered cars in GT4 actually need to be driven, instead of just steered. GT3's physics are just too nimble for kei-cars to be any fun at all.

Well its obvious really. Every GT game will be better than than the one before. But for me, it doesn't matter really. Sure, i like GT4 the best (for now anyways) more than the other GT titles but sometimes if i'm really, really bored, i start playing GT3 again for good ol' times sake. I mean i could mod all the cars to go **** fast with over 200k HP or bring out the Diablo, 996 or the hybrid cars out on during practice. If that wasn't enough, i would do drifting as well. :D
