Is it worth to buy Shift 2?

Hello,

I am PS3 user and I interested in Shift 2.

What I want to ask is...is Shift 2 really worth buying for? Honestly what I want the most is...updated events (like the Gran Turismo 5 seasonal events) so I can play the Shift 2 longer without re-play the events I already win.

Also...is the online play with friends fun?

Sorry for this stupid question :D

thanks!

SHIFT2 is okay....Online is improved from SHIFT1. No updated events sorry. I have I just play it occasionaly when I am tired of GT5 (barely happens).

Hmmmmmm I really don't know I never tried that out (only I play video games in the house)
It probaly does so.

The gameplay is really fun, especially once you get your controls and car settings dialed in. Good tracks, both in quantity and quality. Decent AI. But know this, there is a consistent problem with the game freezing both during races and in the menus that many people are experiencing (myself included). As I understand it, the problem is most prominent on the PS3 and almost non-existant on the PC. If you think you can deal with that then I think you will enjoy this game.

Oh, and if you do decide to buy, I recommend the Renown Tuning thread for some settings that will make some of your cars more enjoyable by a factor of 10. And the thread owner Terronium-12 takes tuning requests if the tune you want isn't listed on the front page.

This is also the factor I am thinking again to buy Shift 2. I've been downloaded Shift 1 DEMO and...I experience audio lags..and some graphic lags (but audio the most)...but still, fortunately, never been freezing. I worried about the performance of the game...even this is Shift 1 but I believe this issue will appear again on Shift 2.

Btw I am just trying Shift 2 on my friend's PC...yeah, seems I am gonna enjoy it, since the racing style is breathe-taking :)

Thank you for your tips :)

Shift2 IMO is the best racing game on the PC. I have been playing it since release and still play it everyday. I have not touched GT5 in a long while, and dont miss it one bit.

One you get your wheel or controller set up an some decent tunes on cars, it cant be touched as far as gameplay and AI. There is a nice list of cars, and all of them ones you WANT to drive (i.e. no Minivans and other nonsense). Also they all have cockpit views and can be upgraded, tunes, painted, wheels changed, body kits, etc. (except some of the DLC cars cant be painted or upgraded...they already are).

There are some downsides but they dont compare to the pros of the game. Seriously, get it.

Just FYI...I hardly ever get freezes. My last one was a while back...and cant even remember the one before that. It IS an issue for some not an issue for others.

Amd the DLC packs are good...

its good on the ps3 not great sound is better than GT5 Its worth a shot especially now on amazone it is 39 dollars

yea, it just takes some time to adjust to the physics.

If you buy racing games, play for 5 mins and say "WTF, these physics aren't like GT5, game sux" then no, its not worth it for you.

Agree with Vaxxtx. If you are considering both PS3 and PC, get the PC version. 👍

I do agree with that...if you have a choice get the PC version.

I meant to say best racing game on the PS3 though :). I know lots of PC folks would say there are better racing games on the PC.

But yeah, if you have only have a PS3 you will be happy as well.

And also what Kazanski said above!

PC version is ten times better.....especially with some handling tweak, zero steering lag, Full HD, high res texture no jaggy shadow and all that, you can even tweak the fov and look to apex if you know how to.

I bought it for PS3 and just bought it on PC again, never regreted that second purchase,

I picked up the PC version for even less: 20 euro (28 dollars), and that is including the Legends and Speedhunters DLC. 👍

Whichever version you get though, it's worth it. 👍

The cheaper this gets...the more I consider it. This thread is relevant to my interest.

The replay value of S2U is very high with a deep carreer mode but more so because of AutoLog (get some friends ASAP) - nothing like that in GT5 and you have to give it a go to fully appreciate S2U.

NOTE: I have many hours into S2U and would say I have had 4-5 freezes - maybe one for every 40 hours. Just so you know there is a problem but it is not a game breaker (for most!).

Well...I was grab this game of PS3 copy on September.

First opinion...the graphics is nice (I also trying the PC version for only 1 hour) but I am extremely disappointed about the steering.

I know there is a lot of users who feel a slow response of steering...even the tire statistic shown here (http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/04/01/shift-2-unleashed-its-not-input-lag/) that there is no input lag -- just the animation lag... but still, I prefer visual animation than looking the tire statistic...so when the hand steering animation a little bit slow to turning left or right I just keep pressing the DS3 analog and the car easier to spins...keep in mind that Shift 2 physics is good.

This is a realistic simulation racing car game...I admit that Shift 2 is a great game...but again, the steering animation problem make me rare to play Shift 2.

I am still waiting for EA to fix this problem.

GT5 steering animation just fine (I more prefer to drive in the cockpit view).

This game is $19.99 and the legends packs is right up my alley. Now should I pick it up?

Definitely I absolutely love the Legends pack and at $19.99 it's a steal!! In my opinion the Speedhunters pack wasn't worth it. The cars are nice but are almost uncontrollable when it comes to hard braking, slow tight corners, and tight high-speed passing.

Good game, great handling (I use a DFGT, works like a dream) huge amount of pre-set Events to work through, including drift, elimination, and time trials, and loads of races. Huge amount of courses, and while not a lot of cars, the cars in the game are unusual, exotic, and/or popular. And then there are the thousands upon thousands of Quick Races to create for oneself - you can adjust difficulty, number of opponents, type of cars they drive . . ..
It was worth the original price, at used rates it's a steal. Didn't sell as much when it came out; NFS is hard to boss - this is hard-core gaming, and if you're into hard-core video-game racing, yeah, it's worth it.

As for the game crashing, yes, it does on my PS3 - not often, but it does. Can be annoying. Wish they fix all this in the future; it's a good Series.

I always hear this issue but I never experiencing any crashes on my PS3 (or just not yet). FYI I always maintain my PS3 system each month (database rebuild etc)

It´s 5 euro now on PC. It´s certainly worth it if you can live with the console damage regarding gamepad optimized steering. A lot of the cars have some kind of duck steering and it´s not until you get to the more GT type cars the steering start to make a bit more sense. However it can be fun fighting the wheel when you get used to it. But it´s a shame that cars like the Ford GT 40 is almost undriveable with a wheel due to not being able to drive in a straight line. with the magnet like collision detection it just feels extra unfair :)

But still the career works well due to the sheer number of tracks. I have raced most of them before but not in this graphical splendor. With mods to remove trackside objects etc considerably better then Forza or Gran Tourismo overall. I was a bit bummed about the audio which is hardly tolerable on most cars and never good.

the Speedhunters pack felt almost like cheating. I finished a lot of events using those cars and I didn´t really have to buy much cars at all. The Legends pack was fine but I have used better versions of those cars before so it wasn´t that exciting. Cobra was fun as always though. Duck steering seem a bit more natural for that car but still should have been better.

Had fun with it for 25h so certainly good value for me.

If you have a controller, you probably don't want to buy this game. The handling with a controller is horrendous. Also, if you do get it, prepare to face long load times and a huge amount of input lag to the point where if you're in a race and hit the pause button, the actual pause screen takes 3-4 seconds to appear.

The cars look nice and sound great though.
