Is Shift 2 troubled with bugs?

I remember the first one which were full of bugs and unplayable until they fixed all the bugs, something which took some time. I read the review on the front page which said that Shift 2 is more a refinement of Shift (1), so i'm thinking it may be playable from the start.

Does anyone know if i should wait or if could buy it now? Thanks

I am experiencing a number of bugs on pc. There are a couple of races either crash constantly or will not start. Also, there was a race that had a huge pile up at the same chicane every time. Kinda like the old GT4 Formula race at Laguna. That's what I've found at about 15% complete.

Apart from the fact that the default settings for controllers and wheels are awful, and the odd crash it seems to be pretty clean.

Only bug I've run into on the PS3 version so far was earlier in the game. I was racing the Dodge Viper manufacturer race and was leading on the 2nd lap. I was on a perfect straightaway and my car suddenly fell partially through the track, bounced up and did a number of crazy spins, landing totally wrecked.

Had to reset the race which sucked because getting ahead of those other Vipers wasn't an easy task.

I had the game lock up completely, requiring the PS3 to be turned off via the power button, when I was swapping wheels on a car once.

Only problem so far and I've played about..5-6 hours maybe. I've swapped wheels a few times before then with no problem.

Ok. Many of those aren't too bad i think. It was worse in the previous game, where the physics and gameplay were seriously compromised to a degree where you couldn't even play the game (cars skidding off the track all the time, etc). As long it's not like that this time, i think i'll buy it today and check it out (ps3).

Found my first bug. Sometimes the engine will fall completely silent between shifts. Example: Rev engine out in 2nd, shift into 3rd, complete silence from the motor except turbo whine, shift to 4th, engine's back loud as ever.

Also, for whatever reason the engine seems to go into "tunnel sound" mode when I drive under signs sometimes. Kinda weird.

Obviously not game breaking at all.

Well, crashed twice during a race (done under Windows XP and Windows 7), crashed another twice photo shooting during replays (Windows XP).

My career is at 10%...

Ignore my last post. Seems that there is a problem with the autolog feature as well. On one 3 lap race I did, autolog only used 2 of the laps when figuring out my total time, meaning I beat my buddies by a whopping 1 minute 20 seconds. This would also explain why some of the world record times are unattainably fast, seeing how they aren't counting ALL the laps like they should. I haven't figured out what causes this, but I do hope they patch it. Some of those record times are simply impossible to beat because of this bug.

PS3 : first half hour with the game, first time browsing the Carlot => selected Dodge => selected Viper SRT10 => FREEZE!

The crash required power cycling of the PS3. A fatal bug at a menu screen is troubling.

Interesting. I noticed that someone on my wall had an 8 minute-ish time for a race I was starting, and then when I finished it changed to what I assume was a single lap time as I was only a second or so faster with a 1:xx time.

I'm not joking mate, look at TDU2.
If they fix the handling on that, it will be a platinum title by then.

The floaty boaty physics of shift won't be patched though. I think it's inherent of there system.

I had two. Minor in my book and nothing a restart couldn't fix.

I don't remember the race but my Evo got this weird paint job. Glowing neon blue and the sound got screwed up. I actually took a pic of my car and put in my gallery. But instead of engine sounds, there were people talking. Another time the decibels of my engine was cut in half. At first I thought I blew my motor from the previous race and I was like cool. But I think it was a glitch.

Why is it like this with every single racing game that gets outs nowadays? Annoying that the testing is done so poorly. Maybe it is due to that they are released for multiple platforms (PC,PS3 and Xbox)..

You make a great point and thats why its rare for me to buy a game day 1 anymore. By the time a game is patched and is working properly, you can buy it much cheaper. TDU2 is the perfect example, same with GT5.
So many games are either unfinished or bug infested so its rare to justify full price for a game anymore.

I've had multiple system lock ups. System locking up during races, upgrading menus, tuning menus, and loss of saved data due to lock ups happening at the last race of an event with multiple races. Also have had screen going blank which appears to be some glitch with the game in regards to the video output.

Can these continual lockups damage your system?

Depends on what the cause is. If, for whatever reason, the game is trying to process too much data at any given time it'll either decrease the framerate, halt, or just flat out stop working properly. If a heavy workload (or, over-processing if you will) is the culprit then the absolute worse thing that can happen is data corruption - whether it has autosave or not won't prevent that from happening. If there's some type of errata in the microcode (I'm getting overly technical, aren't I?) that could be causing the lock-ups as well but isn't likely to cause data corruption. The only thing I can really think of that could damage the hardware to any degree is if it's happening constantly. And I do mean constantly.

Oh, and as for bugs - the Class A Invitational is nigh on impossible it seems. Your engine will blow for absolutely no reason.
