With the recent news that we won't be able to take standard cars on photo travel along with the fact that they look worse, lack interior modeling, are less customisable and God knows what else I began to question their reason for even being in the game.
It all begins with GT PSP. Gran Turismo, being Sony's flagship franchise, is burdoned with the responsibility of selling Sony hardware. This is the sole reason for GT Portable's existence--to sell PSP's. It's pretty clear Kaz's heart wasn't in it. Why would he want to go backwards after GT4? The game was swept under the rug for a number of years as PD shifted their focus towards more important things (GT5), but in 2009 it was resurrected and rushed to launch alongside the PSP Go. Hmmmm.
How does GT PSP affect GT5? Well, obviosuly were it not for that road block we could have been playing the game already. But I also believe Sony has shoved PSP to PS3 connectivity down PD's throat. This means every car from the portable version has to be transferable to GT5. As there's no possible way to model those 800 or so cars in "premium" detail in less than 20 years, we end up with standard cars
Another thing that could be to blame for one the many delays is the implementation of 3D. I've been seeing advertisements for 3D TV's featuring GT5 and it's now becoming apparent that Sony shoehorned this feature into the game at the last minute to sell their crappy 3D products. Just another unnecessary setback in the development of the game and resources that could been better spent elsewhere
So what do you think?
