i just got the g25 and the six speed shifter feels like a plastic piece of junk. i am saying this without ever really getting a real chance to use it. the only game i have used it on is the nascar 08 demo for the ps3. i use a mac computer so i cant buy gtr. does the shifter always feel so loose or does it have some kinda feedback that kicks on for good racing games. also how good does the clutch work. can you grind the gears or not actually get in gear if you miss time the clutch with the shift. other than the shifter though the wheel is awesome. it blows the xbox 360 wheel away. it will be hard to ever buy another racing game for it again. i don't know if even forza will be worth wasting my time with

You know the shifter does feel pretty crappy at first, but the more I use it in GT5P It doesn't feel too bad now. Maybe I'm just getting used to it or maybe it as to be used a couple time. And no unfortunately there is no force feed back in the shifter.

Im a very happy g25 owner as of 2 wks ago. yeah the shifter is pretty mushy, nothing like a real one anyway. But you do get used to it, and you wont crunch gears but if you shift before the clutch is in or let off the clutch before ur in gear it just goes into N. can be a bit annoying at first because with a manual gearbox IRL you have resistance until the clutch is depressed. But once again it didnt take long to get used to. As with the clutch sadly its a bit like an on off switch, which sounds bad but when driving flat out i.e. 99% of the time it feels fine because you are on and off of it really quickly. I've only had mine for a short time ($300AU at DSE bargain!) so maybe some1 who has had one for a while can elaborate. But so far I love mine!

Just 2 more months of waiting. Not that Long :)
You should consider Getting a great PC so you can Run Rfactor and other games.

Rfactor came with G25 right? its only trial version by the way ;)

Well can you still download the GT5:P demo from the JP PS? I didnt have my G25 at the time but I think I remember reading somewhere that it was compatable with the H-shift but not clutch. Someone can correct me if im wrong, but its definately worth a shot to satisfy your need.

I got rFactor demo with my G25 and yeah the ffb feels really good but I still play GT5P preferencially. I think its the fact GT5P is real cars, cars I see and love and wish to own.

EDIT: Thanks Nox for clearing up the GT5:P demo issue. So yeah it's either bite the bullet and get JP prologue or wait!

The GT5:P demo was limited time.. Just wait those two months. It will be worth it. Do you have a racing cockpit?

Many of us are doing both, I've had JP GT5P since release and still play it a lot, now I wait for PAL GT5P to get some more fix.

yes i have the playseat evo and i got a deal on the buttkicker when i got the seat

I havent pre-ordered yet, I might though. (I have never missed out yet anyway)

I've had the G25 for 5 months now and absolutly love it. Because the actual shifter and D pad are a seperate unit some people may have problems mounting it on their current setup, like a desktop. I use a Bob Earl VRC (virtual racing chassis) Bob was a prominent race car driver for over 30 years and designed his cockpit to represent how you would sit in a Formula Race car, it's very well made, I've been using it for 3 years now and no problems at all, very solid construction and can adjust for a 4 foot child to a 7 foot adult .Anyway he sells an adapter to mount on the VRC to accomadate the G25 shifter. When setup properly it is much more realistic and easier to use then the DFP, you don't need to have your shifting arm up high like the DFP, you can adjust it so it's positioned as it would be in a real car. Although some people complain about the loose feel it's far superior then the DFP and you become used to it quite quickly. The 3 pedals feel much more realistic then the DFP, there are pistons under each pedal set to the approximate pressure needed for each pedal . The pedals are metal as well as the paddle shifters on the actual wheel and the leather wraping on the wheel and shifter feels very nice, and smells good too. Also the G25 weighs at least twice as much as the DFP and feels more substantial.
As far as Force Feedback, someone stated it doesn't work, well it works fine for the GT series games but maybe not on other driving sims. All in all it is superior to any other wheel on the market in that price range, you can get some real nice wheels and cockpits but they cost thousands not hundreds of dollars. I'd never go back to the DFP, I gave both of mine away cause if my G25 ever breaks I'll buy another rather then go back to the DFP. Try it you'll like it. Also if you want to see Bob's VRC go to bobearlracing.com, and if you ever have questions or problems you can call Bob personally and he'll help you out. Oh yeah he's located in California but ships most anywhere.

the plastic feel of the g25 shifter is the reason i didnt buy it!!..its just a big disapointment when you compair it to the steering feel wich is exelent.....but am sure there will be a new/update version of the g25 when gt5 finally comes out next year.

Ah, thank you. I've been considering these for a while, and now that my G25's guarantee is gone.. :D

You've obviously never driven a Nissan X Trail or a Fiat Sedici! hehe..only one word can describe the gearboxes (and steering) in those cars and i'm noty allowed to say it on the forum!

Well it´s not total crap but yeah it has absolutely no feel so I quickly got a SST Lightning shifter... Can´t express how much better that is. You have to keep in mind it´s a 250$ wheel you have to do compromises.

Shifter is the weak part of the G25 and the wheel to some extent. The pedals are almost flawless except for the clutch that is identical to the throttle pedal.

Oqvist,be aware off the "killer cat":) .Does that shifter works perfect in Prologue, all the gears and is there an older model, where there is no centering? spring.Just plug it in and it works?

Yeah, the shifter is the "weak link" in the G25, the other components are great. I have only used the H-shifter with the GT5P demo so far - I find it too easy to shift into the wrong gear because there's no feel to the shift, but I guess with time I will get used to it.

I have just bought the Buttkicker Gamer - it works quite well, but it would be really nice if the Buttkicker was programmed to respond to cues in the game (in the same way as FFB in the wheel), instead of just to sound. It would make the vibration of the Buttkicker much more realistic & presumably it would not be too difficult to do...

Ah no I really doubt the SST Lightning shifter would work for PS3 because it´s a standalone USB controller... I doubt you are allowed to use multiple controllers in GT 5?

As for older version well I guess all new comes shipped with it but if it uses the same one as I got into mine it should be easy to remove. I think it´s got a tiny bit easier to use with the spring though and it didn´t ruin the solid feel so I think you would be happy with the centering spring on it :)

As for missing gears well I didn´t have that problem with the G25. It got quite a long throw I found it almost impossible to miss gears... I did miss some with the SST Lightning shifter because it has a shorter throw and there is less space between the gears. But well if you remember not to think about how you gear I never miss a shift anymore unless it gets really hectic...

For GT 5 you seem to be stuck with the G25 shifter or the Fanatec 911 Turbo shifter until there is someone that releases a shifter that connects right into the G25 or Fanatec 911 Turbo wheel I guess :).

I wouldnt call it junk but its not well made..On the 3rd day of use, the shifter would never select reverse gear...Need to call Logitech to replace it:ouch:👎

I put a "soft air gun" bullet instead of the small metall ball that goes into the three holes that holds the gear lever in place(gears), also i pressed a bit of a sponge in to the spring that push on the ball.
Try that if you think that the lever sounds to mutch, it really helps:tup::sly:

I fill out the Spring for resistance. Did not figure out that I can place a bigger ball .. oh well I'll do it some time again.

Force Feedback in your shifter? Thats Genius!
Imagine, a small slow buzz in your shifter, barely noticable, and it would go away when your clutch is engaged or reverse. Most trannys i've driven give you some feedback on the shifter. Also it could give you a quick vibration when you slip into gear or something. Just some sort of feedback from the clutch/tranny would be excellent

Hi all!
Is it possible?I want to change the weak g25 h shifter with a Lighting SST.
Gt5p support any usb type addon shifter?
Any idea?
Thx

Sorry 4 my english.

SST states
"Ready out of the box with complete plug 'n play USB windows compatibility"

So it's only USB , only for PC based games. Unless PD enables this shifter.. write a letter for PD to enable it, since it's plug in and play, they should.

I could never get used to the sloppy shifter. I would rather have the DFPS sequential over that. It works even worse as sequential :(. There is no force feedback on it so yes it won´t be any better unless you find some rubber band mod or something. As for clutch that is all in how the games are coded. There is very few pedals that can model some "biting point" since that would require some force feedback. Since it´s actually the acceleration you feel rather then pedal moving :).

My 600$ CST pedals is not a dime better then the G25 pedals in that regard. I kind of like the clutch feel on the Fanatec pedals though I would still pick G25 pedals anyday. Hopefully won´t say the same about the CSP pedals on my RS :P

Although the G25 shifter is a bit flimsy & I have had problems with it (as have many other people) I have to admit, that over time I have got used to it & am quite comfortable with it now.

I do wish that Logitech would make the individual components available for sale though. It would make the long-term durability of the shifter less of an issue.

I am assuming that the new clubsport pedals (which are pretty expensive relative to the other RS components) will be a step up from the g25 pedals...
