So I've done a little testing in the GT6 demo on the grass :) and it seems to me that not only is there no longer a built in driver aid to limit throttle input while off the track like in GT5, but the amount of grip lost in the grass is now at a far more realistic level than it was in GT5.

Seems like a weird thing to notice, I know but I've always hated the grass in GT5, especially when set to "real". I play much less forgiving PC sims like iracing, and netkar pro and although they're less forgiving on the tarmac, but on the grass or gravel traps it's unbelievably easy to drive on in comparison to GT5. I've noticed the same in real life, it's much easier to drive on grass than it is in GT5.

Part of this could be because of the built in TCS that GT5 has when you go off track but I think it's more than that.

GT6 demo however seems to have this issue corrected. As far as I could tell they also got rid of the built in TCS that kicked in whenever you would go in the grass in GT5. The result is it feeling much more realistic than it was in GT5 and more consistent. If this is really the case, I'll be very happy because although I obviously don't aim for the grass, I still find it very frustrating in GT5.

I think it's less realistic, the grass in GT6 never slows you down and the car feels like it's still running on tarmac but with a lot of bumps, even though the grass looks just as bland and as flat as it ever has, I don't know where the hell all those bumps come from..

Graphically, PD dropped the resolution of the envirorment in GT6 a little bit, GT5 looks sharper in this regard.

I've never slid or driven on grass so I wouldn't know if it's more realistic, but in GT5, the grass doesn't exactly slow you down unless you're accelerating from a standstill.

I don't think GT5 got a built in TCS when you're on the grass..
The red part of the throttle input bar while you're on grass is just indicating that the wheels are spinning (as in no grip).. Perhaps that is what you experiance as a built in TCS?

Apart from that, I think GTA/6 does a better job at simulating off track surfaces compared to GT5.

I'm certain it's the opposite, the game auto-limits your throttle input when you're significantly in the grass much like TCS does, even when you have all aids switched off. It's been a bug bear to me all this time, especially when someone knocks you deep into a gravel trap.

In the GT6 Demo, I cut across the grass which is besides Becketts at high speed, so that I had a lot more speed at the top of the straight to test the crashing/rolling physics, (from memory) the game still limited the throttle but not nearly as much as it did in GT5.

The problem with realism in a game is, that you wouldn't get out of certain gravel traps anymore once you end up in them. Would be quite frustrating, if the gravel was that unforgiving...

Not sure about going on the grass, its the main thing I try to avoid at all costs.

What I have noticed that the tyres don't screech when you're doing burnouts / doughnuts on a piece of tarmac that isn't the actual track.

I learned in in physics that if you get two wheels in the grass your car will pull you TOWARDS THE GRASS . GT5 simulates this and GT6 dose not.

I'm not actually the only person to say that it's a TCS. I've discussed it on the forums before and most people agree. Have you noticed that you can put your foot to the floor and the car still won't spin out? That's a TCS. It's not like that in GT6 or most PC sims. You should be able to spin out if you give it too much throttle.

Anyways, I agree that GT6 does a much better job simulating off track surfaces, cheers mate

That's because it's no realistic. I'm glad you mentioned that, because that's one of the biggest issues with it in GT5, and it's a side effect of the automatic TCS or the poor physics they have on grass surfaces. The grass in GT5 slows you down even when you already have momentum. That's not how it works in the real. The reason you don't want to drive on grass is there's almost no friction or grip, so if you have 2 tires on the grass, it will barely slow you down, but the main concern is getting back on track safely. To do that you have to turn carefully because there's not enough grip for you to turn right back onto the course.

In real life and PC sims, if you end up with 2 tires in the grass, you won't be able to do any sharp turns without spinning, but you certainly won't be pulled into the grass like in GT5.

That's another issue GT6 has corrected by not having whatever issue GT5 had with it whether it be the built in TCS or just the poor physics in the grass in GT5.

it's a small thing, but it's something I think more people should appreciate because we all end up offtrack at some point and having the offtrack be more realistic is a good thing instead of it being counter intuitive like GT5 was.

:dunce: I guess my college's physics teachers is dumb ass eyy 👎 Grass wont slow you down like sand does but it will most certainty slow your car down especially if its spongy grass like the ones seen in fields . Your car will in fact pull into the grass if you get two wheels in it .

Grass with grip on "Real" in GT5 feels like wet grass to me. Dry grass still has a little grip if you just drive onto it. Obviously it's quite different if you are sliding across it out of control.

This. In real life once you get your car in a gravel trap you need a crane to get it out. I highly doubt PD is going to implement a crane which picks your car off the gravel trap and puts it back onto the road in GT6 so I wouldn't mind if the throttle input is restricted a lot in gravel traps.

Not in grass though in my opinion. In grass you can actually recover so I think it's important to preserve that instead of making it more difficult than the real thing. I'm happy they fixed that about GT5.

I drive RWD vehicles on turf every day in my job. If the grass is bone dry, no speed is lost, there's no sliding and you can accelerate.

If its wet, no speed is lost, there's a certain amount of sliding and you can accelerate gently.

If the grass is saturated, no speed is lost but, sliding is imminent and if you stop, you are likely to get stuck.

This is all going from tarmac / paving to grass.

Just thought i'd give you that bit of info.
