Well my friend on the forums **cough**72ELCamino**cough** here seems to think that the vw golf mk4 .... or any car that is shaped like that is considered a girl's car. Now tell me, do you really think that it is?

No, it's not. There are more manly cars out there, but It isn't a girls car. Now, if you said the VW Beetle, we might have a problem (even the Turbo)

If you ever get that car, don't bring it to any muscle car meets, though! :P

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

Well, I think that car have a more "boyish" look to it since its like a Honda Hatchback. Yea, you know just HOW common Honda Hatchbacks are driven by teenagers these days :odd: To me, it would be a girl's car if the back is like a VW Jetta. ALOT of VW Jettas I see are driven by mostly women and by teenage girls whos parent just buy them it..... Just why do some spoil their teenagers? Their kids will never learn the idea of hard earned money...:embarrassed:

Thank, you! somebody agrees with me on the spoiling of teenagers by their parents buying their kids cars!

Also, Crazydude, If you decide to get a 17K or 18K car, You can find better used ones for that price. You might be able to get a Porsche 944, Camaro (a REAL man's car), or other more powerful car.

The R32 is one I don't consider as one.

The R32 is an excellent peice of machine after test driving one. Although only manuel, it's very fun. Should have got that instead of the Fiero. Ah well, I've been looking at new cars every weekend I get. 👍

Hell, no!

Maybe the VW Polo, yes. The Golf, no. (well, at least the mk3 isn't! :D)

Thank you for pointing that out for him.

I havent decided to get it yet, but my dad works for BMW and some guy traded in his 2001 golf GTi vr6 for a mini. The car has 32,000 miles on it and has an AEM intake and tinted windows. My dad can get it for about $10,000. Manual btw.

But here in the US, most people dont like hatchbacks cuz they think they are ugly. But in Europe, man one of these is priceless there!

If anyone listens to CarTalk, I think it was one of the "gay" cars that they named. The Jetta ranked higher though.

Personally, I think it's a fine car for a guy.

And also, think about those kids in high school who get a NEW car! Even if their grades arent so good either....But maybe if they are a 4.0 student getting a free ride to University MIGHT be an exception though! :embarrassed::embarrassed::embarrassed:

I heard the R32 is being discontinued after 2005, so yes, it may be a rare car.

I'm pretty sure they've already discontinued it in Europe for a while now seeing as the MK5 Golf has been out for a while and I hate it. BTW a MK4 Polo is not a girls car :P

Eh the Focus RS is faster on the track than an R32 and more fun to drive if you like insane torque steer on motorway drives. Eh i'm a sucker for anything Ford and RS though. I've heard that the MK5 Golf GTi will have 200bhp, although I don't know if that's like the top end model, because they had like 3 or 4 different GTi's in the MK4 range. Still the 1.8T is the powerplant of choice.

Oh and what Douglas said, yes.

We saw one being tested at the Ring this weekend. Btw, the new V GTi was only just released this month I think. This little 200bhp monster is pretty cool in real life.

It was doing a lot of laps there, emptying more than one tank of fuel. A friend of mine captured a small movie too ...

Now that one of you mentioned the RS, there was a nice Focus on the track too. ;)

... which my friend also captured.

(I like this guy's matching gloves ... ha ha, which one was the car who's manliness was being questioned again? )

The GTi was being driven really, really hard. We were all very impressed with it ...

I'd drive a Golf. I think it looks a bit more agressive than most of the other hatchbacks out there. I saw about 30 of the new Golf's in Paris last fall (VW had some type of dealer convention at my hotel), and I was REALLY impressed with how they looked. Very sharp!

Generally speaking, no. However, in certain forms it can be. It's very small, and boarderline "cute", and inexpensive. Things that make it appealing to a college age girl and her father who is paying for it.

However, it can also be a mean, sporty, cut-up-the-road hot hatchback with an attituide. Depends on how many options and modifications you throw at it. Which I guess is pretty standard for any car. Even my beloved S2000. In stock form it comes across a bit girly. But slap on the front lip, rear wing, drop it a couple inches on new shocks, and maybe swap the wheels and you're snarling at the asphalt with a masculine flair.

R32 is a limited run vehicle in north america..I believe only 4000 ae being sent to our shores....I also believe they are all spoken for....I don;t think you will find one at a VW dealership !

What?!?

In Europe the VW Golf is one of the most expensive cars in its segment. Too expensive, in fact...

I suppose I was meaning in the broader spectrum. As far as VWs go, it's inexpensive. As far as hatchbacks go, it's one of the more expensive.

Oh, ok.

Still, the Golf is pretty much in the middle of the range. Below the Golf you still have the Polo and the Lupo.

The VW Golf is not a girl's car. Obviously we're not going to see Vin Diesel driving one in a movie, but there are much, much more feminine cars out there.

That, and the Golf is a very fun car to drive, very sharp handling for it's price. I'd definitley consider buying one.

I might be gettin the 2001 GTI GLX. Its black and I've fallen in love with the OEM vortex kit for the mk4. I might be getting the full kit with the R32 rims. Looks very sharp!

That kit looks great! :embarrassed:

I've been looking for a '00 - '02 GTI 1.8t lately but they're just too damn overpriced compared to the competition and what you get. I guess because they're shipped overseas and they have to pay more to import them. But yeah, they're definitely not a girls car in my opinion.

I'm personally quite fond of the Golf VR6.
I've also recently driven a Bug with the 1.8T in it. And it's 'girly' looking. But it was fun to drive. My wife didn't think so. And since it was to be her car, we left it sit. In favor of something a bit more mundane.
