Is there a difference between hot lapping and lapping in Races A and B.

I just want to know what people thing about this. Do people feel faster doing a hot lap with no pressure. Or doing a fast lap after doing laps in a race (when given space).

In the race you can treat it like quali if you have space, but don't push like you would if you were trying to find more time in quali because making one mistake can put you down the whole pack.

Maybe worded a little wrong. I can usually gain my qually time in a race and then find a little extra when i smell blood in the water. I think its strange it happens especially when i'm not getting a tow.

I don't usually lap races faster than my Q time. If I have q fair gap in front and behind me, then I run a race pace. Why wreck the car?

I've seen races lost bc the leader had a large gap, but tried to keep a very fast pace and crashed.

Some times the car seems to handle better during qualifying than in the race. I usually only do 2 laps to qualify, then a few races in which I go faster than my quali time. Then I do one quali lap in between and immediately break my best lap so far which is a lot harder to reach while in the race.

Perhaps you race on an empty tank in qualifying, the car definitely seems to handle better. I'm so used to the difference now I automatically adjust my braking points for race and qualifying. Not to be more careful during the race, just cause my braking points during qualifying will put the car wide during the race. It's only a slight difference, but it's there.

I have a pretty odd way of racing. I'll set a quali lap, and then race for a bit (2-3 of them) at quali pace. For some reason I tend to learn more of the track when actually racing compared to when I'm alone, usually because I learn from the car in front of me (I still learn more though even without a car in front). I'll go back to quali, improve my time, and settle down to a race pace

There's some situations though (Like the last Interlagos Gr. 2 daily) where I just keep learning new stuff that I was able to shave 2 whole seconds off my time throughout the course of the day, so I never really stopped running quali pace  good thing I haven't messed up :)

I’m glad it’s not just me that notices the sometimes big difference in handling between quali and racing

I think it's a case of learning from others, even subconsciously maybe. Its one of the biggest reasons i wish i could race my friends ghosts. I have one real life friend who i have playex gt with since the first. Hot lapping and haning out, pass the controller back and forth every 5 laps or so. Learning from the corners the other guy is faster in and so on. We have continued this in some form in different racing games over the years but now in gts, nope no how no way.....

Point is, this happens to me also and i assume it is from seeing how others take certain corners and stuff...

Usually notice a big difference in handling in quali to the race.

But I usually am much faster in quali than the race, my race fear usually takes over and affects my time. I usually peak on a quali time do some races, then I can normally beat my quali time after that. Takes me a good few races to get up to race speed, my major flaw I would say. It very much depends on the class and track but I’m not a turn up with instant pace I need to build on it usually.

If you're consistently racing faster than your qualifying time, that means you don't know the car/track well.

Technically, in race A or B, you can go faster than your qualifying time. It's just risk vs. reward. There is no risk in qualifying, so mistakes don't matter. Very few people can get near their optimal time for 5 laps in a row without a significant mistake. Simply not worth the risk to treat a race like qualifying.

I set Ok to Decent Q times but I usually find more during the race. I'm a better racer than I am a qualifier. Sometimes the pressure is good, sometimes bad. Anymore though I'm in IDGAF about my DR/SR mode so I usually end up intimidating instead of being intimidated. Not that I drive dirty, but after being demoted twice due to the actions of others, I don't sweat rubbing the paint off my bumpers. Thus I drive harder in the race using all the other cars as speed, braking, and line references as well as drafting.
