Is there a noob friendly dirt/rally car?

OK, first off, I'm a noob at this game, so please bear with me. I am looking for a relatively noob friendly car for rally/dirt tracks, as I tried the Toyota RSC rally car with disastrous results! Or do I just need to practice a lot more?

Thanks :).

I used the Subaru Impreza 22B for all of my rallying and so far, it hasn't disappointed me one bit. Slow enough so you're always in control, but fast enough to make races interesting. I'm sure there are other cars too, but the 22B does fine for me 👍.

As a general tip though, driving on dirt is very different from driving on asphalt. Grip levels are lower, so sliding is faster than gripping. I'm not terribly good at rallying either, but one thing that I do is try to take corners from the inside (in other words, in-in-out rather than out-in-out). Also, short shift to a higher gear if you find yourself spinning those wheels.

I actually used the Megane starter car for a lot of the rallying. I then got bored of how slowly the rallying was going (I hate it), so I switched to an R33 GT-R which got the job done a lot quicker.

The Audi Quattro and Lancia Delta HF are great beginner cars. The Impreza is also very friendly.

Thanks for the replies everyone :). I'll check out some of the suggestions as they come up in the dealer cycle. I suspect I'll need to improve my driving skills as well - I managed to do quite a few 360 degree spins - they looked quite cool, bt did nothing for my lap time. I think getting out in front as early as possible might be a good idea if I can manage it, as several times I got lost in a dust cloud and ended up driving straight in to tree!

Ford Escort Rally Car is not too bad either 👍 Though you can never go wrong with the Impreza or Lancer rally cars.

Another vote for the Audi quattro from here. An unexpected bonus is that you'll usually be pitted against two wheel drive cars that are barely moving by the time you're looking for the second gear.

I like the Gran Turismo Skyline, the one that looks like the pace car but without the pace car equipment. It is very good balanced for Rally.

Ford RS200 FTW!

Well balanced old skool Group B rally car. Takes me back to my yoof!!

Hi guys! Well, the Escudo is a long time favorite of mine but for a "noob" (weren't we all at some point?) i'd recommend the Lancer Evo VI Tommi Mäkinen. I've been using this car since i got the game and it has never disappointed me. It has a fair amount of HP and torque, great handling and since i like rallying a lot, i just go to Tahiti Maze on Drift Trial and just keep doing laps and collecting money. I manage fairly easily to get around 32k per lap with it... with the GTR i went to mid 25Ks... so in about 4 laps i get close to 250K.

For racing i'd only recommend the Escudo, which can be a little too twitchy for newcomers but once you learn it it becomes very rewarding.

I did my first rally yesterday. And I used a Subaru too.

A Subaru 360 at Swiss Alps. (one "make" race)

How long did that take?
I saved the replay. I'll try to remember to check and let you know. (I don't bring my PSP to work, though. For obvious reasons; though it would be a good wireless network test tool!)

4 laps. Over ten minutes, IIRC.

The replay theater doesn't show you the length of the race.

And I'm not even sure the replay display shows total race time anywhere.

And it doesn't finish a replay with a results screen (which would be nice).

But it looks like 4 laps of Swiss Alps in a Subaru 360 (single model race) took me about 11:15; 3:00 + 3x~2:45.

Of course, you'd think any car can win at level D. But I must confess. For sentimental reasons, I took the same Subaru to Tsukuba, put N3 tires on it, and could not win on level D (single model). It was, however, relatively easy with R3 tires.

Ford Escort Rally for me but as said eariler the lancers and Imptreza's are not bad ethier but some of the early 70's rally cars are super easy to get into a spins.

Just got myself a R34 Pace Car and im gonna take for a couple of laps at Tahiti Maze... just left the same stage with 500.000 creds after 8 laps with the Tommi Mäkkinen Evo VI . Not bad for 10 minutes of sideways fun :)

I'd hate to waste ~1200000 credits. So which is noob friendly yet not slow and dull to drive? A mid range rally car of sorts; preferably not an Evo or Impreza, already have some street versions of those.

I early on bought the Lancia STRATOS Rally Car '77 and that was a pricey mistake which turned me off of rally stuff. It's a real royal pain to try and drive in a straight line much less fast.

In what I've tested, the Subaru Impreza 2003 Rally Car has very good handling on both road and dirt/snow.

That would be the best "noob friendly" car in that game.

Bought this and agree, it controls and handles VERY nicely. Best of the Rally cars I own so far. Only tested on dirt/snow.

Best to worst I own.

1. Ford RS200 Rally Car '85 - best of lot by far!! 👍
2. Toyota Celica GT-Four Rally Car(ST185) '05 :sly:
3. Lancia Delta HF Integrale Rally Car '92 :indiff:
4. Lancia Stratos Rally Car '77 - worst of lot by far!! :grumpy:

My suggestion is to try getting gold (or, depending on your skill, silver) to improve your rally driving. I know it helped immensely for me, though I tend to uses slightly slower cars for rally races.

is it worth getting the toyota Celica GT-FOUR Rally Car (ST205) '95 instead of the st185
