As some of you know, I have been thinking about building a PC. I was wondering what you guys thought about this stuff as this is my first time building one. If I left anything out please tell me what to add. I lost track of what else you need to make one.

So please just give me some thoughts about this and if it is all compatible or not, and please tell me if I forgot something.

Why three CD drives? You could get a CDRW/DVD drive for ~$45 and it would do the same as all three put together.

Might want to double check compatibility with the mobo and E type P4s. Only certain mobos support them as of now. One way might be to check out the BIOS updates at the website for a BIOS that enables E type support.

If the ATI 9600XT is anything like the Gigabyte 9600XT you won't be disappointed.

[edit]Alright. I would get a mobo with an Intel 865 chipset. Mother board being the...Mother board, you're going to want it to be nice. Also, I would either buy a Gigabyte 9600XT for $150 or spend a few bucks more and get a 9800 Pro.

I'd want at least two separate drives, one quick one just for gaming and another one for burning CD's, I actually wouldn't even need a DVD-ROM, when I think about it.
*EDIT*
Am I missing any other essentials besides the phone jack thing?

The only thing that bothers me is I don't see that the board supports dual channel memory anywhere, and that is a no no.

Dual channel is a must for P4s.

Like I said, an Intel 865 based mobo would be great.

And the gigabyte 9600XT would look much cooler with that case...

E core = Prescott core.

"Supported CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Processors (HT Ready, Prescott Ready)"

Yep; you'd be good to go.

Thank you for your help. As you can probably tell I'm not super computer smart. Now I just need $1000. Off to bed, thanks again, and if you see anything else please correct me.
*EDIT*
Would those fans be good enough for cooling or would I have to add anything?

Buy two more for the back and use them as exghaust. Also grab a tube of Artic Silver Ceramique to use instead of the thermal pad that comes on the P4 stock hs.

Just remember that it'll be a while before I actually can scrape the money together. But if they're about to discontinue that case, you know I'll find money to make sure I get that.

No No No No No No No No No No No No How many times i gotta tell you people!

Infinite, I guess 2ez2kill. First off, because you can easily get Radeon's to put up better benchmarks then the Geforce's. No offense, but I'd still agree with what the dude's got over a Nvidia product anyway. I had a 5900 crap out on me within the first month, and yup, they didn't back the warranty. No thanks.

Seems like an awesome setup but drop the cdrom drive. Your cdrw is already 52x speed so you won't need an extra ultra-fast drive

80 gigs is too small - I'd opt for at a 120 gig at the very least. The Seagate Baracudas are awesome and have an excellent price to boot ($135 canadian for the SATA).

I also had a AMD 64 and fried that in a week. Very uncapable processor to me, no offense to those it worked for. I just couldn't get it to overclock at all, especially when cooling was involved. I guess Liquid cooling isn't enough to cool an overclocked AMD 64. Oh well, I returned for a full refund and picked up a P4 3.2, so far it's smoking the AMD in performance, same price.

About that hard drive, on my current computer, I use probably about 15 gigs and I think that that's alot. I have no need for a huge hd.

One more question:

If I were to buy that case, they'll still be selling things that will fit it 6 months or so from now, won't they? I really love that case and would like nothing else. The reason is, I'm not going to buy things a piece at a time because by the time I get it all bought, most of it will be half-ways old, (Yes, I know everything's outdated the second it leaves the factory) but I want something that a year later it will still be considered to be a good computer.

For better performance on your ram, I would look at a little slowing (400 mhz as that is all that your board will support) but with a CAS latency of 2.0. Running in dual channel, your performance improvement would be quite noticable.

Kingston Memory
KHX3200AK2/512 512MB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC CL2 DIMM (Kit of 2 - 256MB)

or

KHX3200AK2/1G 1GB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC CL2 DIMM (Kit of 2 - 512MB)

Samsung and Cosair would also be comprable brands as well...

Yeah.. I wonder how you crapped out the Fx5900. There is about a 99% chance that you did something to the card.. If Nvidia didn't back you up on your warranty then you did something that voided the warranty like OC'ing it so much you fried it.

Ok, now I really think you have a problem. You stated that you couldn't OC the AMD-64 but then you say liquid cooling isnt enough to cool an OC'ed 64? They got the AMD-64 bit to go 2.43ghz on stock cooling, now how are you going to tell me that you cant oc it any higher?

In my conclusion you sound like a computer abuser who has either really cheap water cooling or your just bs'ing to get people on your side.
