The Panamera is no longer "just a rumor".

Porsche AG
Stuttgart. The Supervisory Board and the Board of Management of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, gave their go-ahead today for the development and production of a further Porsche model series. The new car is a premium class Sports Coupé with four seats and four doors, and will be powered by various engines. The power unit will be fitted at the front and will drive the rear wheels. The fourth model series built by the Stuttgart car maker following the 911, the Boxster and the Cayenne will be called the "Panamera", a name derived from the legendary Carrera Panamericana long-distance race, and is scheduled to enter the market in 2009. Porsche's total investment in the new model series, including development, will be more than Euro 1 billion and will come entirely from the Company's own funds. Expected sales are at least 20,000 units a year.

Production of the Panamera is to be in Leipzig, where Porsche already builds the Cayenne Sports Utility and the Carrera GT High-Performance Sports Car. The final decision will require further detailed talks at the Plant, which will be held by the Board of Management of Porsche AG and the Management of Porsche Leipzig GmbH with representatives of the employees.

Shouldn't it be Fifth?

911, Cayenne, Boxster, Cayman, Panamera?

Good idea...V8 anyone?

the cayman is as boxster as a 997 cabrio is 911. ;)
although you forgot the carrera gt. if you count that it will be five again.

its definately an M5 rival and surely a better competitor than the quattroporte or the e55 due to its surely sporty character.

hm, 911, 911 GT3RS, entry level boxster, cayenne SUV, four-door panamera, carrera gt...everyone top or in the top of its class...porsche is going for world domination. all they need is a hatchback then. :D

Let's hope they start with a new block of clay this time... Let's hope they don't just do a smoosh and stretch to the 997.

A new 928?, its been rumoured for years. I think Porsche are better suited to building a 612 Scag, Masser Quattroporte rival then they are a X5 or M-class rival, however good the Cayanne is.

The Cayenne's V8, unfortunately, weighs too dang much to be of much use in Daytona Prototypes. The weight (and the high center of gravity) of the DOHC engines are their biggest disadvantages in Daytona Prototypes.

In fact, it's the low center of gravity, compact packaging, and lightweight of the Pontiac engine that offer it such huge advantages over the other V8's.

Porsche Cayenne = Volkswagen Toureg with different badging and an excessive buying price.

I will have to see the production model of this car to decide wether or not I like it. I personally like the Cayman, the curves are very sexy.

As for M5 competitor, like ///M-spec said, no doubt.

'Scheduled to enter the market in 2009'

Four years seems a long way away. BMW will probably have a 600bhp M5 in the pipeline by then.

Is it going to be a hybrid, or other alternative powered vehicle? Because in 2009 there won't be any more oil.

You got that right, but is it really that soon? My poor GTI will have to be a driveway queen for eternity.

...eww. It has potential but needs improvement, especially on the front end. Bangle still sucks but his M5 looks better, anyway.

Really? I like the look of the front end. The rear looks weird with the bottom of the window being lower than the bottom of the side windows.

no, the front end from the side looks so clunky and overdone. totally unporsche-like.

Ok, so they took a Carrera GT front end, a Carrera back end, and welded them together. Porsche really has the laziest design team ever. This car looks too boring. That style is 6 years old. It will be really dated in 2009 if it comes out then.

don't forget they smushed GT headlights into it.

Panamera sounds like some kind of cuban grill. M5 > it.

that's the 'spyshot' that was taken. I'm purely commenting on those pics themselves. 2010 is a long ways off, so they'll have time to improve.

Meh.

Even Porsche styling could change by the time this is released so I won't trust anything untill 2008.

(Anyone notice how the Porsche badge seems visible on the rims in the first picture but not the second?)

I don't think those are spyshots. If they are, then they're the best, most well-planned spyshots ever taken. I doubt they'd have the entire car ready now.

quote "'spyshots'". Id est, I'm right there with ya.

ExigeExcel- yes, that makes it obvious the wheels are taken from two different phots, and then photoshopped into the picture---- Porsche offers the coloured-crest center caps for $285, if you don't get those, you have the black and white ones.

new Porsche huh.
never heard about this car before.
i like the front, but the rear end is UGLy  .
hopefully they can tweak the look of that rear end

👍

Whatever this damn thing ends up looking like, I like the idea a WHOLE LOT BETTER than the Cayenne.

Why oh WHY didn't Porsche just throw out the damn "Porsche Design Book" with the Cayenne and instead produce something truly spectacular, instead of something that looks like the Prom Queen's 6-foot tall overweight sister with zits!?!

And Panamera vs. 612 vs. M5... yeah, I'm feeling it... :)
