Right, I need some styling ideas for my hair.

Back story: My hair and I have spent many a fine year together and have immensely enjoyed each others company, mostly. It's become long, wild and barely tameable.

I'm not fashionista so deciding what to do now that I want a change has left me wondering how to go about it.

For those of you not familiar with my mop:

Now, I often tie it back to look presentable and just recently had it...I don't know what it's called, the thing what the African people do with braids so it looks like Xibit, you know?

I'm looking for suggestions because if I can't decide on a style by the time the African hair things fall out then I'm going back to skinhead Shem and .5'in the bugger every fortnight. I'd also like something low maintenance which mine currently isn't.

Pics would be helpful with your suggestions because if your talking about styles there isn't much I know short of a mullet or perm.

I can offer nothing else because I give so little of a crap about my own hair that asking me to care about someone else's is the equivalent of asking your cat to fetch you a beer.

Anyway I usually go for the short look. Just keep it short and you should be fine.

Short for me doesn't work unless it's skinhead short because of the curly, wire-like nature of my hair. It's had a good run, the old fuzz, but it needs to be chopped in for a later model.

I suppose one of the hospices or care charities would be a good cause, perhaps the one that gundalini supports since he was kind enough to premo me. To be honest, it's a great idea but I wouldn't know where to start, especially living in a country that doesn't recognise charity, and only ever having done a few charitable fund raisers in the past all of which were organised by the hospice I did them for.

You could shave all of it off except for a little strip down the middle, and have a curly mohican/mohawk.

That would just be strange, but I'm sure I'd get a few laughs out of it. I have considered a Jedi strip down from the top of the ear braided down with the rest short, like Obi Wan.

I'm done with afro. There have been times when I've sat and picked at it all day to get it all 'fro like and added another foot to my height. I'm not sure having an afro is anything more than me waking up in the morning without touching my hair.

As a woman, I feel it's my responsibility to post in here.

You could have short back and sides and then have that really trendy sweepy quiffy thingy, like this. Or, rather the 'Curly Peak' which would be better suited for your hair. Or perhaps 'The Daniel'. Or constantly annoy yourself with one of those cuts where you have a really long curly fringe that just hangs over your face so you can't see where you're going and the rest of your hair is short.

Get your nose pierced, grow your hair, dye it brown, wear a tophat, go everywhere with shades on.

You could totally pull this look off

Shave it, and find a short length that you are happy with. Then keep getting it trimmed to said length.
That is what I did. Went from 'fro o skinhead and now I have a nice short style and just get it trimmed when curls appear.

Been there, done that. In fact there's a picture of me doing 'the Slash' in the pictures thread some way back.

I'm still not sure I'm getting good vibes from any of the ideas. I certainly can't business with any of your ideas, Katiegan, my hair just wouldn't hold in that way nor am I fond of using product to make it stay.

Thanks for the input ladies and gents but I'm not convinced, there must be something out there that would suit me!

I wouldn’t know what to do with curly hair. My hair grows mostly straight for about 4 weeks (the asian stage inherited from my mom), then starts curling after that (the caucasian stage inherited from my dad), which I can only handle for about a week before getting it cut.
