Well, the inevitable is happening, we're heading towards spaceage cars :( (been noting this for quite some time, but this one made it pretty apparent, during a recent wandering of the net)

Technologically speaking, it's interesting stuff, but as a car-guy, it's not my style whatsoever. I remember watching the discovery channel, and seeing movies when I was like 12, and hoping we'd never go to this kind of vehical.. Give it another 10 years after production and it'll be hovering 2' off the ground :(

What the hell they made a car out of a truck bed?

Growing up, I never liked the concept cars.

Seems pretty awesome to me. Look at all that space! It won't be long before electric motor powered cars are keeping up with your average gasoline engine.

About time if you ask me.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your age LoudMusic. ;) I dunno, space isn't a huge concern of mine, (although I need a decent cargo space-but hatchbacks do well enough for me). I just don't like the impersonal/foreign look, lack of input/feeling of the road, no more "real" engine-with a sound and feel-that you can tinker with etc. etc. etc. I get absolutely bored, and can get on the verge of falling asleep on a highway haul, if I'm say, constantly going 65-70 and whatnot. (read-not race people etc, just not hold a constant speed and stuff. if I'd had the chance to do a decent highway run recently, I could probably explain better ;)) I also hate riding, I have to be driving-same reason, I get bored, and for some reason don't like sleeping in cars. (unless it's a cool female, then I love riding/driving with em, no matter what :D ) On the flipside, I have a blast, and never have a problem with sleep, (even if I haven't slept at all the night before), if I can play around a lil, feel the road etc. If I'm not stuck in the aformentioned "bore-zone", I absolutely love roadtrips and long trips, even when the scenery gets bland. About the comment on building a car on a truck-bed, if you read', it's pretty much a flat metal sheet, like a skateboard-just a flat thing with wheels. I also never have liked concept cars too well either. A select few have been cool, but not very many. I still haven't even warmed up too much to the RX8, and it's basic concept has been around for years and years.

That thing's got alot of room, but most of it seems to be wasted-if you look at the other pic, on the link.. It's still only got 4 seats, (be them large, with enough legroom to dance :P), and a rather small looking boot. There's alot of space in front of the "dash" area, but it's being used as a visual space, and has nothing to keep items from sliding back into the front passengers legs. -given it's nowhere near production, but as the current concept, it's quite wastefull of it's abundance of space. I also don't like the idea of people who've been driving on either side of a car for years, being able to toss the controls to the passenger, and letting them take over. With the abundance of horrid drivers out there already, that just doesn't seem safe, lol. I'm hoping if/when a new driving interface like that surfaces in production, (well, before really), that a new driving test will arise to make sure people are ready, but still... Not even twisting that yoke looking thing, for steering, seems crazy too.

I bet it's not responsive at all...

I would hate driving it...

Although the front space looks like a nice place to take a nap under the sun...a sort of frier type effect...like you are grilling using the George cooker dealy on your whole body...

Oh, wait, I get it: The Borg confused "skateboard" and "shuttlecraft" and just assimilated the two.

No, it's not safe. One major reason cars are as safe as they are is because the entire engine bay absorbs most of the impact. So here we are presented with what is basically a kid's transparent umbrella protecting you. What a wonderfully whimsical way to toss safety out the window. Literally. With the way those seats are oh-so-securely bolted to the floor, I envision a tobaggin ride past the driver's seat with every emergency stop.

"Pass the controls to the right." Oh goody. Now we have to learn to drive on the "correct" side of the road, just like the Brits do. Or not. Millions of people used to left-seat ergonomics now have to remember just which side of the car they're on when changing lanes. Or they'll end up encountering Bubba in the 18-wheeler much more intimately than they'd hoped.

Compressed hydrogen should be fun. I can't think of a more unstable fuel to transport around, save liquid oxygen. Drive-by-wire will actually suit former PS2 addicts quite nicely, however, since there will be totally artificial feedback -- if there is any at all. After all, this is a "lyfestile car", not a car that's meant to be driven with any actual intent on driving the car. That is, to be ridden, not driven. And now with everything run by software -- most likely M$'s **** microkernel -- we can expect GPF's every 3,000 miles. Forget those rear cameras....

GM should pay more attention to Bob Lutz, and less to Leonard Nimoy. ("Not your father's minivan", indeed.)

Wait - what are you saying about the Volkswagen Bus? :D

You're being stupid! In the future, the robots will drive the cars - no one will care about safety! Listen to Bob Lutz? Ha! ... said Chrysler. :D

So, what's the last word? Pass the controls! Let's drive!

i like it.
may is not the most safety, but may be in the future they make strongers shassis, more lite's .(o.k that are too much expensive)but,) you never know. ;)
i like it.

let's not forget to vote on this spaceage, george foreman tanning bed skateboard. :D Hooligan, great points indeed! many of which I jsut didn't feel like going into, but thought of upon postings ;)

It's surely only suited to an electric car? I mean it would be abit silly to have a Diesel oil burner in such a modern looking car? :car:

Eeesh, I forgot about that. Similar rules apply, I guess, but I would have to say that the engine location is about all the two cars share.

I don't know. I like what Lutz is attempting. He seems to have a British approach to cars and driver involvement: shut up and drive. Some of his concepts aren't bad, either. (I'm assuming you were joking about the "stupid" comment. ;) )

[QUOTESo, what's the last word? Pass the controls! Let's drive! [/QUOTE]

Yeah, more like "Pass the Nytol. I don't want to remember this ride." :D

The best thing that could be done to that thing is to load it in the back of a sky lifter take it up to about 2000 feet and test it's aerodynamics......

Certainly doesn't offer much in the way of privacy. All those girls who put on their panty hose while driving will suddenly be exhibitionists. And as far as getting your first **** in the car, well, you better find a nice private spot

hey now, there's always window tint in the year 3000 :P -it'll prolly have those electronically dimming windows they raved about so much on discovery, back in the 90's, haha. (i think they were electronic, the ones where you flipped a switch and it activated some chemical in the glass, thus causing em to tint/black out) then again, that would/could make drivers very unsafe, although I'm sure they would make some sort of safety, where it would only work to certain extents, at certain times, depending on if you're moving or stopped or or or o ro rororooororror. i dont care, ITS FUGLY AND SUCKS, LOLOL.
