I've got 3 questions for you guys here.

Is it possible that I can turn off the shaking effect when I get rammed by other cars or if I blink wrong I hit the sidewall by accident ?
It really is annoying and I can't race properly if that feature is on.

Also I have a little problem with cornering, it's not the cars themselves half the time, but I need to really improve that.
I can do a good race but cornering is my weakness.
In Gran Turiso 3 and 4 is there anyway I can improve that ? the exams won't cut it because it makes nervous as hell when being on a tight time limit...

Last which Endurances is good for making a good movie ? I'll do small clips for youtube but for dvd's something that will stay within 3 hour time limit.

1) I don't think there's any way to disable that. It's supposed to do that to let you know you've hit something.
If you're just talking about the screen wobble that happens at the beginning of many races, then provided you're playing on a TV that will support it, you can change the settings to output 480p or 1080i which will stop that.

2) Practice makes perfect, and "Slow in = Fast out" is a good mantra to remember. Start off in something slower but easy to handle such as an MX-5 Miata or Lotus Elan and make an effort to learn where & when the bends appear on each course. Not having each bend surprise you every time will make you learn to anticipate where to brake and turn in without running off-track or into the wall every time. Don't expect to learn good cornering techniques by jumping straight into a Group-C racer. It wouldn't happen in real-life and so it doesn't in the game. Can you imagine the carnage on the roads if everyone learned to drive from day 1 in a Lamborghini?

3) Most endurance races will make good replays, except Super Speedway 150 miles, which is dull. However, the replay file size that the PS2 can keep in memory is a maximum of 215KB, which usually equates to about 40 - 50 minutes of the race, depending on how much controller input there is. (More input means less time.) Hence you'll never actually capture the whole endurance race in the replay file.
If, however, you're going to record your in-car view during the race with an external camera or other capture device, then there's several great events that'd stay under your 3hr time limit:

Grand Valley 300km (featuring Japanese & German Touring Cars, Aussie V8 Supercar, LM racecars on race tyres)
Tokyo R246 200km (featuring Japanese & German Touring Cars, Aussie V8 Supercar, LM racecars on race tyres)
Laguna Seca 200 miles (mainly American roadcars, modified on race tyres)
New York Streets 200 miles (roadcars on sports tyres)
El Capitan 200 miles (roadcars on sports tyres)
Infineon World Sports Car Race 2 hours 45 minutes (Race cars from several Le Mans style classes e.g. Group-C, LMP, GT1 on race tyres)

Try a corner at 1/4 throttle, and then reverse and try again (or try again on the next lap, whatever) each time slightly increasing the throttle until you find a good balance (or roughly the right km/h) you should take that corner in.

Okay I'm going out on a limb from and guessing you're talking about the vibration effect in your dual-shock or wheel? And not screen-shaking?

You can turn the vibration off if you go into "options" menu before a race, in your garage, and about a half-dozen other areas.

Also I have a little problem with cornering, it's not the cars themselves half the time, but I need to really improve that.

Hate to inform you, but the exams are some of the best tools for success. You don't have to necessarily try for gold in every test, but if you can reliably get silvers you're on the right track. 👍

In addition to the tests, simply practicing around a track (empty or in one of the Track Meets or Family Cups) is the best way to get good at cornering. It helps to learn how real-life cars react, too.

Suffice it to say, GT is not for easy slacker videogamers, you'll have to want to be somewhat serious to get good. :mischievous:

This is a matter of opinion. So far, I've driven the Grand Valley, Route 246, and Laguna Seca races. You can get a good replay from any one of them if you keep your car competitive (don't get way ahead of everyone else where there is no action in other words). 👍

Parnelli bone, I am not talking about the controller shaking, I said when I get rammed by other cars, the "SCREEN" shakes for 4 seconds and blurs make it aggrevating to keep focused on the road and keep your lead position if you have one.

Also I am not horrible at Gran turismo when it comes to racing I am nearly stating that I have a problem with cornering mainly when they are tight.
To prove what I mean take complex cornering in GT 3 and GT 4 that is where my greatest weakness is especially if the damn car isn't set up properly or not meant for good cornering.

Also I take Gran turismo seriously, if I didn't I wouldn't be here and made shooting practice frisby's out of the game disc's.

Actually, if you read your original post again carefully, there's no mention made of whether it's screen or controller shaking, you just asked if you could turn it off. :sly: And the answer to both as we've given you is NO.

His advice regarding cornering was spot on, and wasn't offensive, so don't take offence at it, he was offering a solution, but it seems you're after some sort of "magic" fix and we can't provide that.
Any car in GT4 will take a tight corner, it may not be as fast as you want to go or think is possible, but that's a DRIVER issue, not a car issue. You need to learn the limits of a given car with a given setup, be it stock or extensively modified, but it's still up to you as a DRIVER not to exceed the limits of the machinery. This can be done by learning proper braking distances and racing lines, as has been suggested, and a lack of knowledge about these two things cannot be compensated for with even a "killer car setup."

In Gran Turiso 3 and 4 is there anyway I can improve that ? the exams won't cut it because it makes nervous as hell when being on a tight time limit...

If the time limit is making you nervous, I really suggest Parnelli Bone's advice of driving an empty track.
Just take a car you're familiar with (not high powered though) and drive around the track a few laps, trying to improve your time with every lap. Don't start by driving as fast as you can, but try to look at what kinds of corners you're up against. Practice the best driving line at average speed and try to take corners faster with each lap. If you spin off the track or if you have to correct yourself, try a different approach on the next lap. And most of all: Enjoy driving the car.
If all goes well take a faster car or a car with more attitude (:scared:) and go back to the track.
This is a 'method' I use and may not be the best way to learn cornering, but it gave me hours of fun and improved my driving a lot.

What also helps is watching "B-spec Bob" drive a track. Allthough he is an average driver at best, the way he drives a track might give you insights on how to take certain corners (or how NOT to take them :) )

Don't forget: It's a game, have fun!

Don't get all shirty with people when they fail to grasp something that you've never said.

Brake earlier. That is likely to be 90% of your problem.

You obviously don't want to hear it, but the license tests are designed to teach you the way the game expects you to drive. You don't need gold, but don't settle for bronze. Silver all the licenses and then see how much your "cornering trouble" is improved.

And I will say, 90% of road racing is in the corners, so that's slightly important. Otherwise, just hang out at Las Vegas and shoot for low ETs and high trap speeds.

Number 1: I'd (re-)read the booklet on car control; the manual in the box. If you don't have it...

Number 2: Do the license tests. Yes, they are annoying; they're not easy...practice, practice, practice. But once you master GT3's licenses, you're going to have little trouble completing 70-80% of the game. And you'll have no problem at most the license tests in any of the other GT games. Don't worry about getting all-gold yet; I've been playing for 8 years, and I can't do it, except for a few licenses in GT2/3. Getting Bronze is enough for most people (myself included), but if you can get bronze, in another 2-3 tires I bet you can get silver with not much trouble! Read the descriptions and understand what they are saying. Watch the replays in the license tests (the best tool available for avoiding FAILure).

Understand the concept of a [wikipedia]Racing line[/wikipedia], [wikipedia]Load transfer[/wikipedia], [wikipedia]Oversteer[/wikipedia], [wikipedia]Understeer[/wikipedia]. So a search on the 'net or around here for some info on that. I'd also watch a little professional motorsport (or even amateur stuff like SCAA Runoffs) to see how it's done in real life: If you have access to SpeedChannel, watch some of the non-NASCAR stuff, unless it's on one of the road courses, the oval races use a racing line too, but it's kind of hard to tell in the TV shots anyhow.

Notice how the car is placed by the driver on the opposite side of the track to take a corner going the opposite way; the car is on the left for a right turn, and vice versa. If you see anything on TV with cars that look like production-based cars you see in Grand Turismo games, do yourself a favor and watch it. Ignore most of the commentary, they rarely say much about "how to do it" unless you see a car spin out ("He went too fast"). If you don't have access to that on TV, watch some racing clips online (obviously, don't bother with the reels of accidents on YouTube).

The basics of cornering are pretty much the same whether it's a 63 horsepower Kei car or a 600hp racing car, the difference is in the speed carried into, around, and out of the corners. Don't worry about losing a half second into a corner, concern yourself with the 5-10 seconds lost in a spin, hitting the wall hard, or finding yourself going the wrong direction.

You won't get the feel of the car all at once; it will take several laps to give you confidence in the car, to know how it will behave when it's slightly out of control, when it's understeering and oversteering, braking, accelerating, in high speed or slow-speed corners. No car is all-round perfect at everything, so it's a learning process. Don't expect lightning-quick times right out of the box; the difference between getting to know a car that's "slow" or "won't turn" is experience, and that can mean another 5 seconds (or more) around a track.

Whatever you do ...DO NOT get used to the F1 (Formula GT) cars...consider them as dessert after you've enjoyed your meal! You will have to re-learn everything since they are very easy to drive fast and handle too well. Also, don't worry about "drifting" at this time either, some people think it's fun and useful (it can be, at times) but most of us agree that it WILL NOT make you a better racer GT3, not at least the first time around.

All I did was ask 3 questions, none of them were meant to be nearly impossible to answer all I needed mainly was the cornering advice and pointers which I got.
I'm not trying to start world war 3 on this damn topic or any other thread I might make or reply to, I can't help it if somebody misinterprets what I am asking and they go: oh hell, what the hell does he want this time!

All I asked for is a little guidance not a damn book on cheats and secrets to the Gran turismo series for 14.95.

If a few of you all can't understand why I posted this, look at Parnelli's post and below to find out why I snapped!

I've read all of the posts and found people giving you solid advice. It's entirely up to you if you take it or don't - but asking a question then getting pissed off because people are answering you seems a bit strange. Why ask if you don't want to know the answers?

A book on cheats and secrets to GT for 14.95 would be a waste of money, since there are none of either in any GT game. And I'm not sure where you get the impression this is what you're being told to get, since I can't see any reference to it anywhere in this thread.

All I said is the blasted thread turn from being simple with help from other members into something ugly that should have never been started, also I did not ask for a cheat book all I stated is I asked for help and a few members thought I was looking for genie in a bottle that would do it for me.

Since this isn't going anywhere, a moderator should shut this down and trash it to prevent all other kinds of crap getting in here.

Help me out here. Point out the part where people answering your question aren't being helpful. Everyone has given you advice on how to improve your cornering. I'm not seeing the ugly.

also I did not ask for a cheat book

No-one said you did. No-one offered you one. What are you talking about?

all I stated is I asked for help and a few members thought I was looking for genie in a bottle that would do it for me.

I've read through every post. Each gives you excellent advice - if you choose to read it and take it - on how to drive better in GT. Except one from sukerkin who states what excellent advice is posted in this thread and that he couldn't add anything better himself.

Since this isn't going anywhere, a moderator should shut this down and trash it to prevent all other kinds of crap getting in here.

Thank you for your opinion of what my job should be.

However the only person adding crap is you. People have given you solid, sound advice to each of your three questions and you're getting upset about it? Anyone reading this who has already posted is, right now, wondering why they bothered to even try to help you.

Sorry, but you never said anything about the screen. Here is your original post.

It really is annoying and I can't race properly if that feature is on.

I thought everyone else was on the wrong track when they asked about the screen thing. :) So I was trying to go a different route cause I thought you were talking about the vibration feature in your dual-shock.

Cool. Well I (we) tried to give you advice, sorry if it rubs you the wrong way. You have all the ideas from us that will ultimately make you successful like we are.
Also I take Gran turismo seriously, if I didn't I wouldn't be here and made shooting practice frisby's out of the game disc's.

Hmmm. Again, you know what you need to do now...I'm not sure what advice you wanted to hear....:indiff:

Try not to apply full lock on cornering. It scrubs off speed.
Often you can reduce the wheel lock of a couple of clicks and maintain a higher corner speed. Also try to balance throttle and steering input to achieve maximum coner speed.
Often less throttle is faster.

You have been lucky with the people responding to your question. These are some of the best guys here with heaps of experience and help to offer. I do not think any one was trying to be anything but helpful.

Just have a look at what most of these guys have done in the game.

I did not reply originally as I have never noticed the 4 second screen shake, I also thought you may have meant how to turn of the vibrations in the controller.

Practice the license tests , I reckon these are the best part of the game to improve your race driving skills.

Go and look at the test demonstations with the screen showing all the inputs. You will notice that it is not allways full lock, or full brake or full gas.

Practice, have fun racing, and most of all, we are usually trying to help.

I really do appreciate all the help was given, mainly a few of us misunderstood each other mainly me, after I saw parnelli's post last night I really didn't understand what he was getting at until it led up to this afernoon after 2:15pm est.

I will apologize for getting angry and letting things get out of hand.
Let's all just try to forget about what happened, I don't want to go to bed angry and the next morning on my day off from work I check this again and we are stlll at each others throats and post.

I personally would like it if you stuck around. You'll get to where you wanna go eventually. 👍 Remember: do those tests. Watch the demo for the tests and bronze them all. You may find at some point you'll sneak a silver here and there. If you're like me, this will only encourage you to try harder for more silvers. Then you'll find yourself with a gold!

Get plenty of practice laps in, too. Like I said, the Family Cup races are great because you can adjust the difficulty of the races.

I wrote up a guide for the B, A and I-B license tests so far, it may help you a bit. You can also look up some guides here on the internet if you're persistent enough.
