...and my last haircut was 10 years ago. Thus, everyone I've known since school has known me with long hair. Which is weird to think about.

You can tell that's an old photo, I'm using a controller. Not to mention it's GT4... but I don't have many photos of the back of my own head.

The charity in question is Cancer Research UK. Why? Because pretty much everyone knows someone living, or who lived, with cancer. However, there's no emotional, heartfelt plea here - I just like the idea of raising money to fund scientific research that's likely to help everyone, directly or indirectly. Besides, I've always said when I eventually get my hair cut I'd do it as a fundraiser, so I can't really go back on that even if I wanted to! So, with Jordan's blessing, I've started this thread asking for donations. My target is £750 but secretly I've always wanted to crack four figures :)

The deed will be done in the week after Easter. It'll probably be videod... I've got no choice there, I suspect!

If you want to help out, the best way is through my page on Just Giving, or PM me if you want to send any sponsership my way in some other form.

Thanks for looking, and any donation, no matter how much, would be brilliant :)👍

My friend recently did that and raised a little over $2000. Crazy. I hope you surpass your target.

I doubt I'd be able to do this because I cut my hair as short as I can every couple of weeks.

Sell/donate your hair to someone who will make a wig out of it. If you get paid for it donate the money to your charity.

Do not just throw that hair away.

Extensions are the shiz.nixtz, yo. Sell the hair to a wig store. (Yes, I spelled that word the way I think it should be spelled, since it's made up anyhow.)

But good for you, Roo...expect stares, however.

Yup tried, but my card was rejected.. I've used Justgiving before, both to raise and donate, so I guess it just means I'm flat broke.

Anyway, well done for doing this.. my mum has cancer so I do take it seriously... I'll maybe have another stab at donating later.

Oddly, I've got quite a few pictures of the back of your head...

On the left, obviously.

Although you might want to rope someone else in...

You've got beautiful hair. 👍

Good job for taking the initiative to do this.

Wear a hat, or some sunscreen, for a few days..... Even in GB, that lily-white skin will burn quickly.

Nice one of the back of my head there also.

I shall donate as soon as I can, a friend of mine at work did this recently and raised a substantial amount for a local charity. Its a long time to have long hair for it to suddenly be gone!

Awesome! I'd love to do it, but my hair never grows longer than a quarter inch before its shaved off.

We do The Worlds Greatest Shave over here, not that I have ever had my head shaved, I have had it coloured once though - bright pink & purple. I do know quite a few girls who have shaved all their hair off for the cause.
As I have friends in UK who have/had cancer I have made a small donation.

Once again, it's great of you to do this, Roo. Good luck!

I did something similar to this about a month ago with a teacher from my school.
Between us we raised just over 10,000 euro. It was a mindblowing amount of money, especially since I only wanted to raise 500 euro.
Best of luck with your fundraising.

I have donated my hair for wigs twice. Last January the hairdresser was able to cut enough for a donation and then enough again. In the same cut. So I guess that's 3 in total. About 25 inches came off that day. Might ha e been able to do the same the first time but I wasn't ready to lose it all. Haven't had it cut since but is almost long enough for another donation.

My hats off to you. Its going to feel mighty strange!

My school's been raising money over the past few weeks and we raised about $3.5k altogether. My hair wasn't very long to begin with, but I got it shaved anyway
I'll post before and after pics when i get to my PC.

Cancer has affected me and my family recently, so only too happy to help. 👍

I'll try to recognise you the next time I see you...

Nice initiative you've taken man. I hope you'll get more than what you put as a target. :) 👍

True, dumping your long hair is a waste Roo. Selling yours for a wig does help you contribute your money to the charity even though you will receive only a slight amount of it...

It's going to go to a charity that makes wigs (the website isn't as creepy as the URL suggests).

;)

Sorted the hairdressers, they're happy for my housemate to turn up with his variety of cameras. And asking for donatations face to face is still horribly awkward... I hate asking people for money; I find that considerably harder than the prospect of having the hair gone.

Thank you everyone who has donated so far! 👍

It's done.

The befores and afters.

Getting shot of the rest of the beard in a minute. I've tied my hair back for so long the parting stayed.

Off to find my scarf now... my head is slightly colder but my neck is freezing.

Good work. My hair is disappearing rapidly so I could have made a bid for yours!

It's hilarious that your part is still there. Looks a million times better though.

Well done on doing this. Personally, I would never let myself do that, I would rather raise money another way. But I don't really think I'd look right with short hair. You suit it though. 👍
