JGTC car in the Gran Turismo World Championship!?
Well I was surprised when I first heard it, but as it happens you can win the Gran Turismo World championship with a Japanese touring car and a BIG turbo 973BHP, quick on the straights but not so good downforce in comparison to the Group C race cars and slightly heavier too. Here is the link, https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1583545#post1583545
Now this got me thinking: is it possible to do it in an a stock JGTC ( Nissan Motul Pitwork Z ), no additional tuning, straight how you win it. Well, according to Old Geezer, his car was faster on the straight thanks to his big turbo, but slower round the corner thanks to the lack of downforce. Therefore my 'stock' JGTC is going to be slower round the corners, and slower down the straight. Against the odds you might say, this also causes a big issue over tyres, when I win the car it comes with racing Mediums front and back, I will have no option to change tyre compounds to suit my race.
Old Geezers power:weight ratio was: 1.110 bhp per tonne
My power:weight ratio is 0.440 bhp per tonne
I am not certain whether this chamionship is going to be possible for a victory, when I was testing it, I entered the series and my opponents were poor, with my fastest opponent being the R390, Aspec points where 156 for it, there was no challenge I therefore quit, after 3 races. Even with a stock JGTC this championship is an easy win, I decided to make sure I had at least one quick opponent, to be a real test. For my championship I wanted at least one of the following as an opponent for a real challenge; Sauber C9 Mercedes, Nissan R92CP race car or the Toyota Minolta 88-CV. With these cars every race would be well in excess of 200Aspec points, (if that was possible).
The Race reports follow although the series is currently unfinished.
JGTC Vs. Group C
My car: Nissan Motul Pitwork Z (Japanese Touring Car)
Opponents:
Nissan R92CP
Pescerolo Courage C60
CLK GTR
Chapparal 2D
Cheverolet Camero LM
Tokyo
Qualify position: 2nd
Qualify Time: 1.29.338
Qualify Differance: +0.588
Qualify notes: I found I was travelling much faster than the R92CP for most of the lap, however on the main straight it just flew straight past me and into the distance as I imagine it will do in the race.
Aspec points: 200pts
Race position: 3rd
Total Time: 15.41.430
Fastest Lap:1.29.399
Number of laps: 10
Number of Pits: 1
Race Diffeance:+1.03.740
Race Notes: I was challenging the pescarolo for 2nd place until I spun on lap 5, This left me challanging the CLK GTR which in the end I beat by a farly big margine. The Nissan R92CP lead for most the race however the pescarolo took the lead after the R92CP pitted. THe Pescarolo did not pit and therefore went on to win the race, 4pts is not a bad result for a fast track like Tokyo. I spent all my lap catching the car in front for it to race out of sight on the straight.
Super Speedway
Qualify position: 4th
Qualify Time: 0.31.783
Qualify differance: Unknown (in region of 2 seconds)
Qualify Notes: I held little hope of beating anyone here, fortunatly I had the speed advantage through the corners over the chapperal and the Camero despite loosing time to them on the straights I beat them both overall. I could keep up with the CLK for a bit but after a while the power difference between cars was evident. With sufficient slipstreaming on the straight, also given I am faster through the corners than the two cars behind I should have no problem taking an easy 4th, a win is out of the question on this race though, hopefully some other tracks will provide the points I need to take the championship, although it is looking tough.
Aspec: 200
race position: 4th
race time: (unkown)
fastest lap: 31.325
Number of laps 22
Number of pits: 1
race difference: +2 laps
Race notes: As I expected, I lost qutie convincingly, Interestingly, again despite being far slower in terms of pace, the pescerolo won becuase it only had to pit once.
point standings after two races:
1st: Pescarolo C60 - 20Pts
2nd: Nissan R92CP - 12Pts
3rd: CLK GTR - 7pts
3rd: Pitwork Z JGTC - 7Pts
5th: Chapparal 2D - 4Pts
6th: Camero - 2Pts
Hong Kong
Qualify position: 1st
Qualify time: 1.13.226
Qualify differance: -0.04.245
Qualify notes: An impressive margin, one I hope i will be able to maintain in a race environment, the lap time was set on my first hotlap it just shows how much you can really do despite having a poor car in relation to your opponents. It shows promise for the rest of the series, the tight corners allow me to destroy the AI, its only the main straight were they pull anything back. Hopefully I can still use a one stop strategy.
Aspec points: 200Pts
Race position: 1st
Race time: 0.22.28.347
Fastest lap: 1.12.867
Number of laps: 18
Number of pits: 1
Race Differance: -4.901
Race notes: Tough, tough race, I needed my full attention to pull it off, and requires not major crashs, considering how slow the R92CP was in qualifying, it is ammazing how quick it was, it put an average lap in of around 1.13.500, which is a quite an ask for a stock JGTC car. The R92CP finished ahead of the pescarolo for once, since they both had to pit 1 time. With the championship closing up at the top, I can't imagine how tough Seoul is going to be, with the 400bhp bonus, the R92Cp is carrying surely I don't stand a chance of keeping up with it on the fast straights of Korea, still, a race win is a race win and I hope for more or I am in trouble.
Chamionship standings:
1st: Pescarolo C60 - 24 Pts
2nd: Nissan R92CP - 18 Pts
3rd: JGTC Pitwork z - 17 Pts
4th: CLK GTR - 11Pts
5th: Chapparal 2D - 5 Pts
6th: Camero - 4Pts
Seoul
Qualify Place: 1st
Qualify Time: 0.52.615
Qualify Difference: - 0.00.162
Qualify notes: A tough race, and I am amazed I got the podium at this place, this race is all about power and being able to take fast corners, nither of which my car has compared to the like of the R92CP. Great fun to do though, I would set a lap time, then the R92CP would beat it, then I would set another then the nissan would beat it again, finally I set one the Nissan cannot beat, although, it got very close. I doubt I will have a chance of keeping ahead in the race, Seoul will have many laps, many lasp to make a mistake, one mistake and the Nissan will be in the distance.
Aspec points: 200Pts
Race position: 3rd
Race Time: (unkown)
Fastest lap: 0.52.316
Number of laps: 19
Number of pits: 1
Race difference: (unknown in the region of +40 seconds)
Race notes: Couldn't keep ahead of the Nissan for long, I beat him through the corners, but he blitzed past on the back straight, this happened for about 5 laps, until I clipped the wall coming onto the main straight, not a big knock, but enough to ruin my exit speed of for the straight, the Nissan overtook and was so far ahead at the end of the straight that slipstreaming to catch back up was out of the question, I had settled for second place but again that damn Pescarolo didn't need to pit, and I therefor came second, season prospects... pretty grim, although there is still hope for second place. My bhp has dropped by 13, I am going to give it an oil change, I need ever bit of power I can get.

Championship standings:

Qualify Postiton: 1st
Qualify Time: 1.30.326
Qualify difference: -0.08.408
Qualify notes: Absoulutly destroyed the Nissan here, perhaps it had two dodgy laps, but if it puts similar laps in the race, then the only thing I will have to worry about is, the Pescarolo possibly not pitting.
Aspec: 200Pts
Race position: 1st
Race Time: 17.26.611
Fastest lap: 1.30.892
Number of laps 11
Number of pits: 1
Race difference: Still running (it was around 20 seconds)
Race notes: A very easy victory, ahead by large margin throughout, I was concernd the pescarolo would not make a pit stop, and possibly win, but even after my pit stop it was still 4 seconds behind me. In the end the pescarolo pitted, therefore coming third, the championship win is not out of sight yet.
The half way stage
1st: Pescarolo - 38Pts
2nd: Motul Pitwork Z - 31Pts
3rd: R92CP - 30Pts
4th: CLK GTR - 16Pts
5th: Chapparal - 9Pts
6th: Camaro - 6Pts
Half way notes: 8 points separating the top 3, this series is far from being over, I can't help thinking that however fast i go to try and keep up with the Nissan, the Pescarolo will just go and beat me anyway by saving tyres, that is the main problem with being limited to medium's. Well New York next, that track features a huge straight one to my disadvantage, still there are some nice 90 degree bend which I can hopefully use to gain back the time lost on the straight.
New York
Qualify Postiton: 1st
Qualify Time: 1.28.031
Qualify difference: -0.02.779
Qualify notes: A good 1st place for qualifying, I overtook the Nissan on my hotlap, I was over 3.5 seconds ahead going into the last sector but the cars lack of power became apparent as I lost over a second, this means if I don't get a good middle sector each lap I may sqaunder any chance I have of beating the Nissan, as for the Pescarolo who knows, i may never pit, which again is race over.
Aspec: 200Pts
Race position: 3rd
Race Time: Unknown
Fastest lap: 1.26.747
Number of laps: 15
Number of pits: 1
Race difference: +0.32.???
Race notes: Not much I could doo about coming third there, once the tyres on the Nissan warm it was gone, I kept ahead of the Pescarolo for ages until the Pescarolo found pace, despite getting my faster and faster lap times, it wasn't enough it caught up to me, I battled with it for 4 laps, getting overtaken on the main straight, then I would reclaim the number 2 spot by nailing it in the middle sector, After each lap I lost a litle gorun and eventually I could no longer find myslef close enough to evertake and I had to settle for third, The Nissan took its first number 1 of the series, infact the first time it has finished in a position other than second. The top 3 gap is closing, and these next few races are really going to count, I am still unsure if I have a chance at taking the victory for this one.
Current Standings
1st: Pescarolo - 44Pts
2nd: R92CP - 40pts
3rd: Motul Pitwork Z - 35pts
4th: CLK GTR - 19pts
5th: Chapparal 2D - 11pts
6th: Camaro LM - -7pts
Opera Paris Reverse
Qualify Postiton: 1st
Qualify Time: 1.16.638
Qualify difference: - 0.06.779
Qualify notes: A fairly safe result one in which I doubt will be beaten during the race, The only question is if the Pescarolo will go the race without pitting. My time was set on my first htolap so I am feeling confident I can do much better.
Aspec: 200Pts
Race position: 1st
Race Time: Unknown
Fastest lap: 1.14.543
Number of laps: 18
Number of pits: 1
Race difference: - (unknown but fairly big margin)
Race notes: The race itself was just a case of not crashing, unfortuneatly I had quite a few wall grazes and on one occasion a spin, Paris is hard to throw your car round because it has a bumpy road makeing little jilts and sudden over steer likely and hard to predict although it was often a case of me being a little to throttle happy. I had to ensure I made it only 1 pit-stop which meant running my tyres into the red zone, a rsiky strategy and one which allowed the R92CP to catch up, the problem was the Nissans sisn't try and stay out an extra lap and therefore forced a 2 stop strategy on itself ultimatly plaicing it 3rd instead of 2nd, which wasn't as good for me, but I am not complaining, 10 Pts brings me ever closer to that number 1 spot, The racing is still very tight with 3 races left, it could turn out to be quite a battle.
Current Standings
1st: Pescarolo - 50Pts
2nd: Motul Pitwork Z - 45Pts
3rd: R92CP - 44Pts
4th: CLK GTR - 22Pts
5th: Chapparal 2D - 12Pts
6th: Camaro LM - 9Pts
So with just 3 races to go, the are just 6Pts separating the top 3 cars, these next few track are going to decide who will and will not walk away with the trophy, For me it is just a case of proving a point, although I think I have made a point by getting this far.
More to come...soon
If people want proof of winning, I will make a video, of me winning a race in an un-tuned Motul pitwork Z, the race is apparently too long for it to be hosted on youtube, does anybody know a way around this?
Help would be welcomed.
Please note, I do not have a Max drive so, the video isn't brilliant quality, but it will be viewable.
