I'm sorry for the display of the bad apples on the last thread, but there needs to be a thread for a man that had no peers.
John Lingenfelter..
Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, Inc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are sad to announce that John Lingenfelter, founder of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, passed away yesterday, December 25th, 2003. John had been in a semi-comatose state since November 2002 when he entered into a coma during surgery that was necessary due to a racing accident in Pomona, California in October 2002. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering will be closed Monday December 29th so our employees may attend the services.

This is from the Lingenfelter site and my many condolences for a man that was the epitome of the performance world.
Like Carrol Shelby, this man needs no recognition for his contribution to the performance world. His work speaks for itself.
He unlike many have had the patience, fortitude to make something better, faster and for all to witness and even own.
Thanks John for the many automobiles you have modified, made us drool and made a name for yourself.

Oh and please, lets keep this post and thread clean. :D

my condolences to his family and the ones who loved him, directly. because if you were a fan of performance cars, you just had to love what he did. its a sad news, indeed. :(

I can't believe he died. That's a real downer.

He also, in addition to his Vette and Viper cars, also did a
427 CID AWD S10. 0-60 in some 2.3 seconds.

One of the things that I found odd about John, is that success didn't turn him into a prick like so many other "top-notch tuners".

Every time I saw him in pictures, video, or on tv, he was smiling/grinning.

He will be missed. R.I.P

2.7 seven seconds, to be exact. the sonoma had the same 427 engine that the C5R racecar had, ony twin turboed and tiwn intercooled, making 700hp, it was mated to a Sierra/Denali AWD system and coupled to a 4 speed auto :irked: ... all these engine mods cost 100 000 dolars.
it appeared in car and drivers "super tuner" challenge and was doing pretty good when the tranny blew. stupid automatic. quarter was 10.something.
here is a picture of the thing,

That's why he had no peers. Not many were like that.
Fame and fortune can tarnish most and forget their all important roots.
John never forgot his roots or where he came from. :D
RIP to a legend tuner. :(
