Judged Drift Event Interest?

I love drifting in GT5P but I hardly ever use the drift option in arcade as Its not really judging how good your drift is, a human needs to analyze it... a computer cannot pick up character, aggression and style....

Thats why Drift Boxes are hated by drifters and are hardly used because of it...

So what I'm wondering is who would be interested in a judged drift event?

I would be judging. I've watched nearly every Video Option and have religously followed D1GP in japan, I think I have the qualification to be able to judge this...

The possible judged tracks i was thinking about were, Last turn on Eiger nordwand, Suzuka D1 course, Fuji D1 course....

Like in D1SL or Divisional and MSC events in Japan, 4WD and FF are also allowed, so if someone wants to FF drift im not going to stop them.

So what do you think? Interested?

If more than 5 people are definitely going to do it, I'll set it up...

Any suggestions are welcome.

Its not region specific... I think the best way of doing this is if the run is done in free trial then the replay is saved and sent to me, either as PS3 replay file or you can upload it to youtube, ill give alot more detail when i open the event thread..

The course i was thinking of definitely using is Suzuka D1 course. Just because theres a RWD event at it online now so you can tune cars for it and then run it in free trial.

Any suggestions are very welcome.

Hmm, how can you judge tandem if you are going to be using replay files? Because you know, there's a REALLY big difference between drifting solo a section, and drifting tandem door-to-door with someone else.

I'm not planning on participating, but this needs more then one judge for a real competition. As it is essentially opinion for a large part, also, controller users are at an instant disadvantage as sixaxis drifting just doesn't look as good as that done on a wheel.

I know sixaxis drifters that can go just as big as a wheel drifter. This is not very well thought out though.

This will most likely need to be done in time trial mode. This will allow the competition to happen at any track and not have the horrible drift trial scoring system trying to tell everyone who's the best. Although this would force people to use a stock setup, I do not feel this is a downfall. Tires should be an open choice.

Judging should be done by a panel of 3-5 judges or have an open public poll.

All replays should be done on the first 1st lap. Replays should be recorded using a video camera or capture card device and uploaded to Youtube. Videos should include track cam and cockpit cam. If everyone does it on the first lap, the track cam will be the same for everyone so no one will have an unfair style advantage in there video. No extra video editing should be down aside from a title screen and music(as long as normal car audio can still be heard clearly).

Just a few of my ideas.

So what will this be judged on? Cause if its going to be based on speed, angle, and line, I don't think us humans can do it any better than a computer.

Character, aggression, and style may very well be judged better by us though, but seeing hundreds of replays myself, it's actually quiet hard to tell. Thing is, almost any drifter in GT5P can drift through a section and look good.

I think the whole thing should be judged, including the initial technique and how clean from that technique the drift is when we exit.

However, I'm not too much a fan of having to get my camera and record my every run. It's too much of a hassle, at least for me to record, save, and upload for every competition. I'll be here to help with ideas if any of you are serious about it.

I know there are many problems with this, and there will not be tandem, its way to hard to organize for me. The system we currently have doesnt make it easy, like I said if you have suggestions they are welcome, I'm just trying to have fun and see what you guys can come up with.

I know there need to be more judges but having 5 judges and 2 people drifting is a bit wrong.

The course is Suzuka RWD Expert so you can tune the car as you wish and use any tire and just run in Free trial, that makes it better..

Im not asking you guys to take it seriously, I just wanna see how it goes, if it doesnt work then, we'll have to wait for GT5 and hope they make it easier for us.

When and if I open the event thread I will list all the things I am looking for on the course to get a 100. Things like lines, clipping points, engine noise, switch backs, basically everything D1GP expects for they're events. I have a Suzuka D1 course video on what the judges are expecting.
