When driving (just some class-c tracks for now), the steering seems to be steering on its own sometimes. Is this because of bumps/crashes or are there an assist modes that I need to turn off? What are the ideal setting where the game runs in full simulation mode (no assists whatsoever) ?

Full simulation (I beleive) is driving with the force feedback in the options menu left alone at 5. Then at your pre-racing driving menu leave driving assist or whatever its called off. This will allow you to feel understeer, oversteer, bumps in the road, rough suspension set-ups, and lastly when some one runs into you when racing. This will feel like a real car with no power steering, to me at least. The key to be successful with your new wheel is holding onto it good, so sudden jerks don't spin you out, and countersteering in whatever situation you find yourself in. You should find, like me, that this wheel is realistic and that is probably the best investment you made for this game : ) You might want to consider purchasing a cockpit or building one for a realistic feeling as well.

Turn Active Steering off. The feedback will only cut in when it should then, bumps, over/understeer etc. Having all driving Aids off and professional physics is also recommended. Then just change your forcefeedback strength to whatever you like best (in the options menu for the wheel).
