Just got Shift 2

The graphics are way worse than GT5, and controls are a bit jiggy at times.

But man is the racing more fun and the AI is actually putting up a fight. As a GT-R bumped me into the gravel trap I cursed loudly, then laughed out loud. That has never happened in GT5.

There's also some great tracks in there (Spa, Mt Panorama, Road America just for starters).

Actually I prefer the graphics in Shift 2. GT5s resolution may be better but I always found the surroundings rather lifeless and the lighting way to harsh. The combination often makes the tracks seem like cardbox stages imho. And the tracks who are just upscaled from GT4 look horribly dated with their 2D-pixeltrees and low poly count.

Now the 200 real cars in GT5 are mindboggling, of course. But I tend to not notice the quality difference in the heat of the racing. :D

GT5 isn't that great looking. Yea, the Premiums cars are amazing. However, the tracks are like baren parking lots/fields and Nurburgring, which all the GT5 fanboys fawn over has tons of repeated trees along the sides and looks borderline terrible at times.

Bought and downloaded the Legends DLC pack yesterday. Fantastic!!!

Took a couple of time trial test runs in cars and tracks included - a Porsche 911 RSR around the old Hockenheim and a BMW 3.0 CSL around Rouen. Boy, oh boy, what an experience!!! The cars feel alive, your vision moves around with acceleration/deceleration, the helmet cam duplicates how your vision moves into corners in the real thing and the outside world has the "dirt" of the real thing.

GT5 the better simulator? It has better physics. But as a simulator of a driving *experience* Shift 2 at its best is all over it.

They're both brilliant and flawed in different ways.

If you're doing it right - you're using an in-cockpit or helmet-cam view to race. If that's the case then the Shift 2 graphics beat GT5 hands down, every time.

I'm starting to think about this graphics issue as poor tv screens... I saw people complain writing the square looks and bad graphics but in my tv at least the graphics (dawn :drool) are amazing.

Upscaling is a big issue and a well calibrated tv changes everything.

Another thing I don't see is people complaining and showing pictures. Many videos around show no issues in graphics and like posted above, in-cockpit views are amazing
