1.) This events uses GT Mode mode as a event creator only.

2.) Each driver should pick two cars from the following list below:

Daihatsu Copen Active Top '02
Daihatsu Copen Detachable Top '02
Daihatsu Midget II D-type '98
Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato R '97
Daihatsu Move Custom RS Limited '02
Daihatsu Move CX '95
Daihatsu Move SR-XX 2WD '97
Daihatsu Move SR-XX 4WD '97
Honda Beat '91
Honda Beat Version F '92
Honda Beat Version Z '93
Honda Life Step Van '72
Honda N360 '67
Honda Today G '85
Honda Z ACT '70
Mazda Autozam AZ-1 '92
Mitsubishi Minica Dangan ZZ '89
Suzuki Alto Lapin Turbo '02
Suzuki Alto Works RS-Z '97
Suzuki Alto Works Sport Limited '97
Suzuki Cappuccino (EA11R) '91
Suzuki Cappuccino (EA21R) '95
Suzuki Kei WORKS '02
Suzuki MR Wagon Sport '04
Suzuki Wagon R RR '98
3.) There are some tuning rules that you must follow:
  • Upgrade your car to be as fast and light as possible, to keep up with racing spirit. However, sometimes you can avoid this rule for the sake of strategy (e.g. buy Sport Muffler instead of Racing to compensate for the turbo lag, add weight ballast to the specific side of a car, etc.).
  • Sport Medium tires (S2) only
  • Usage of Nitro or Gt Wing is not allowed
  • Usage of ASM & TCS is allowed
  • Other tuning upgrades or adjustments not mentioned above are allowed.

4.) Once you pick your vehicles post your acceptance here in this thread, along with the full name of your vehicle's choices in addition to power and weight values.

CURRENT ENTRIES
Code:
[U]Driver --- Cars, (Power/Weight)[/U]
Matej --- Suzuki Alto Works RS-Z '97 (121hp/646kg), Daihatsu Move Custom RS Limited '02 (128hp/837kg)
BH-21 --- Daihatsu Copen Detachable Top '02 (135hp/726kg), Daihatsu Midget II D-type '98 (97hp/518kg)
Shotamagee --- Suzuki Kei WORKS '02 (116hp/820kg), Honda Beat '91 (88hp/760kg)

5.) In order to participate go to Race Meeting (PAL)/Track Meet (NTSC) mode and fully complete specific amount of lap for each circuit listed in Events Schedule below. You can only use one car per four circuits. After you are done, watch the replay and write down every single lap time as well as your total time. These times, together with name of your car for each circuit, will be your submission to Matej via PM. You can submit your times only once, so do not submit until you are completely sure.

Your submission should look something like this:

Track: Tsukuba Circuit (Daihatsu Move)
Total Time: x'xx.xxx
Lap // Lap Time
1 // x'xx.xxx
2 // x'xx.xxx
(...)

6.) After we reach the deadline I will officially pronounce (randomly chosen) target laps and you will receive Time Penalties for every difference between you best target lap and other laps. Quick example will show you how it works:

Target laps: 2nd, 4th, 5th (circuit contains 5 laps, for example)

Times for two imaginary competitors were like this:

Laps --- Honda Beat (Time Penalties) // Daihatsu Move (Time Penalties)
1st --- 0'45.890 // 0'50.123
2nd --- 0'45.567 (+0'01.576) // 0'49.886 (+0'00.037)
3rd --- 0'45.912 // 0'49.855
4th --- 0'46.781 (+0'02.790) // 0'49.900 (+0'00.051)
5th --- 0'43.991 // 0'49.849

Underlined lap is the fastest lap for each car and we use other target laps to divide the best lap respectively. Results should sum up together in order to reveal total Time Penalty.

Honda Beat = +0'04.367
Daihatsu Move = +0'00.088 (WINNER)

Winner in this case is Move because, despite his obviously slower lap times, he was much more consistent and his lap times were almost identical. Participant with least Time Penalties at the end of the season wins.

7.) You should keep two wheels on the track all the time (rumble strips are part of the track) and avoid collision with AI cars or walls as much as possible.

8.) Wall-riding and any other cheat driving methods are forbidden.

9.) Deadline for the submission is the 11st of February, 2013. Once we reach the deadline, I'll pronounce target laps and after that, all submissions will be opened in order to start process of calculation.
.
EVENTS SCHEDULE
Code:
Fuji Speedway 2005 - 3 laps
Suzuka Circuit East Course - 6 laps
Twin Ring Motegi - West Short Course - 8 laps
Tsukuba Circuit - 6 laps
Autumn Ring Mini - 12 laps

Hints & Tips
  • Use warm-up lap available in Race Meeting mode to find optimum pace before timer starts counting your laps
  • Each car has a same chance of winning; we're looking for consistency, not speed. Hopefully, we'll have a chance to see some of the minivans on the grid!
  • Remember, one car per four circuits only. Distribute your cars according to nature and conditions of the circuits
  • Data Logger in addition to Ghost Mode in Free Run/Practice mode can help you find best driving line for the task
  • Number of target laps will depend on number of laps for each circuit

I'm going to go with:

Daihatsu Copen Detachable Top '02
Daihatsu Midget II D-type '98

Daihatsu Copen Detachable Top '02
Wt: 726 kg
Power: 135 HP (US)

I haven't worked on the other car yet, but that is the one I intend to use.

Nice, welcome abroad :) . Now we just need other participants to clarify their cars...

By the way, I'll take Daihatsu Move Custom RS Limited '02 as my second car. For some reason, these boxes are actually quite fast, I already have Move SR-XX 2WD and it handles enormously well, good enough to keep up with Alto Works and other 4wd/FF kei cars. It won't break the sound barrier though, but with proper gear tuning it stands next to bloody fast Capuccino or Beat (assuming that you're using manual shifting, of course).

I'll use a Suzuki Kei Works '02 & a Honda Beat (not sure which one yet) I'll give full specs for both after I've purchased and tuned them up.

Ok here's the full info for my two cars.

Suzuki Kei WORKS '02
Had 64HP / 820 KG after purchase from New Car Dealer, after some Engine (and Non Power) modifications it now has 116HP. (weight is the same)
Honda Beat '91
Had 58HP / 760 KG after purchase from Used Car Dealer, after some Engine (and Non Power) modifications it now has 88HP. (weight is the same)

Now it's time to do some racing consistent lap times.

I worked on my other car.

Daihatsu Midget II D-type '98
Wt: 518 kg
Power: 97 HP (US)

With shotamagee having made his decision, does anybody mind if I take the Honda Beat Version Z '93 and the Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato R '97?

It's ok for me, cars are not exclusive so, you can pick whatever you like. I will sign you up with ditto cars for now, welcome abroad :).
Current entries list has been updated with other drivers too.

I've been doing a few of these today and have noticed that my replays for Tsukuba & Motorland reverse have had spasms, where the car position on the track and my driving inputs become un-syncronised, so your car ends up against a wall going nowhere.
So it may be an idea to record your lap times as you do them just to be safe.
It would be annoying if you run a consistent set of laps, but the replay stuffs up so you have to redo it.

I never heard about that in GT4 (it can happen in GT2 though), neither I had a problem with that so far. But in this case maybe it's best to write down your laps during driving or if someone has a mobile phone with recording device, to record your laps aloud, so that you can repeat the record later on (it could be a bit annoying to pause the game every now and then).
I'll check my replays today, hopefully nothing bad will happen, because I have already run consistent set of laps on some tracks.
Extra note concerning target laps under Hints & Tips section is now present.

Can we do multiple runs, and then choose which replay we want to submit?

And I finally found my power cable. : D
Now I can use this monster...

racing_cockpit_simulator_by_bopop4-d5shtnd.jpg

Whoa, that looks impressive, and the armchair looks cossie too! :)
Oh yes, do as many replays as you want and then decide which one should go to submission. In my case, I did like 2 or 3 runs and then I picked the time which had most consistent laps, despite the fact that maybe the overall total time was slower or faster comparing to others.

One week left for racing chaps!! :gtpflag:

Ok I've done my races, I'm happy enough with my consistency considering the races were mostly first attempts.

Times Submitted

Around 48 hours until we reach the deadline! Hurry up, we only have two submissions so far (BH-21, Shotamagee).

Hi all, I would really like to take part in this event, but unfortunately I'm going to have to bow out because I just can't make the time for it. I'm really sorry:guilty:

No problem, hopefully you will be able to play with us sometime ! :)

Sorry for the delay guys, I'm quite busy with college work (again!) but now we can finally declare the end of the challenge.

We have reached the deadline! I will accept no more submissions from now on. And by using Random.Org site specialized for mixing the numbers, I'll now pronounce our target laps for this season:

Fuji Speedway 2005 - 3 laps ---> 2 target laps (1,2)
Suzuka Circuit East Course - 6 laps ---> 3 target laps (5,4,6)
Twin Ring Motegi - West Short Course - 8 laps ---> 4 target laps (3,6,4,8)
Tsukuba Circuit - 6 laps ---> 3 target laps (1,4,6)
Autumn Ring Mini - 12 laps ---> 6 target laps (12,4,7,1,11,8)
Grand Valley East Section Reverse - 5 laps ---> 3 target laps (3,1,4)
Motorland Reverse - 12 laps --- > 6 target laps (11,6,5,9,3,7)
Beginner Course Reverse - 15 laps ---> 8 target laps (15,11,6,14,5,4,3,2)

In a next 24 hours I will open up all submissions (this also includes my submission) in order to start calculation process thus, to post Time Penalties for each driver.

Method of choosing the target laps: First I wrote a defined number of target laps and then I created a list containing number of laps for each circuit. Finally, the list was randomized couple of times (my family members have randomly decided how much) and I took first few (now it depends on target laps quantity) numbers which were defined as our target laps. In general, this system depends purely on luck.

Congrats to Matej for winning, and also BH-21 for competing.
Wow, just over half a second in it after all those races, looks like a lot of those would have been fun races too, as all the cars look like they had pretty even speed.
Also doing this is/was good practice for the endurance races, where the ability to lap consistently is more important than outright speed.

Nice Competiton. As you can see, I'm not very consistent. The Copen did pretty good for a front wheel drive. I expected better of the midget. LOL, it sure is fun to drive though! :)

Congrats to Matej for hosting and Shotamagee for competing.

Congratulations to everyone for competing and supporting this challenge.
It was really fun, my Alto proved to be a nice choice for consistent laps. And despite it's weight, Move is extremely good cornering machine, I recommend it to everyone, it's really an amazing car!
We had some really close and intense battles and some patience lessons too! :) I really admire real-life drivers who can race for 2-3 hours straight with ability to set identical times for the entire race.
