Theres been lots of ideas about what different series and/or types of vehicles fans would or would not want to see in the GT franchise. The popular NASCAR has been up for discussion and even..., motorcycles. With the delivery of officially licensed F1 cars and taking into cosideration that the GT licensing test maybe even deeper involved and detailed I've been pondering something for a couple days. Its commonly known that most or perhaps all F1 drivers have extensive karting experience and/or pass time careers.

Formula Ford grid, 6 wide!

So what my orignal thought was:

To acquire a special license required to compete in F1 competitions, what if the licensing class consisted of karts and/or single seators (like Formula Ford).
Than I began to think what if there was a series with karts or the single seators. I personally think 1 of each of the vehicles with several different liveries would suite GT pefectly. Since karts and road racing go hand and with the F1 addition, these machines would be a perfect addition.

Conceptual Composition

  • Having one Kart vehicle all having the same performance specification with several different liveries, and perhaps multi-colored panels.
  • Having one single seater vehicle as well with the same performance specifications, with several different liveries, and also multi-colored panels.
  • Create a type of sequential process that requires one to use each variant of vehicle to complete the licensing class. For example; first three test using karts, next three single seaters, and the last four exams using a F1 vehicle.

So those are just ideas on incorporating kart variant vehicles into GT. I personally think they apparently wouldn't be out of place with the factors of F1 now around and the heritage of GT's deep licensing test. Them being built for road racing even better homolgates them into the essence of Gran Tursimo. I can imagine how intense an online race would be with a full grid. WTCC and ETCC competitions sometimes remind me of karting because of the bumper to bumper competition and intensity throughout the entire race. But these are my ideas, please share anymore you may have to add, judgements, suggestions.

Generally i think that this idea is great. But i think that would require even more cars in GT. I think PD should use their time not to make so many cars but more to focus on improving the ones that actually belong in the game. After all its GT and not " All race cars of the world " <<<working title ;)

I love the idea of karting in GT5. I recently went karting -electric, alas- and it was a great experience. I am sure it teaches much about racing.

Formula Fords aren't the only possible candidates for single seaters, however. Star Mazda and Formula come to mind. Really, anything is possible.

BTW, are there any gasoline karts with manual transmissions, clutch and all?

there are karts with sequential gear boxes! So yes ;)

You seriously expect me to support stock cars and not the basic open wheelers?

I'd like to see some of the FASTER karts - I.E. Shifters, laydown enduros - and perhaps some of them used as instructional vehicles, like in real life. I also support the inclusion of Formula Ford, or BMW, Or either Renault. Not sure I want to get a separate license, though: the standard licenses in the game should be more than enough.

Besides, we could take these hillclimbing up courses like Eiger.

Formula Ford races don't normally start 6 wide on the grid, with someone sideyways on the road in front of them...

Yes, exactly. My original thoughts were to incorporate them as instructional vehicles, but then I thought; Hey, why not have a couple races or even a series. Taking under consideration the intense competition that goes on in these races, I can just imagine how insane it would be online in a full session on a course like GT4's Motorland!

"GT Kart," Like a Formula GT

I also agree that this would be the best way to do it. One Kart with perhaps a few different liveries same exact performance specifications.

Yes, I think we've all established that. ;)

-> Yes, but only as a separate title from the original series. Mainly because mostly none of these cars are even based on road/street legal car at all. And it would be awkward to race karts against regular street and track cars on the Nurbie Ring. :dunce:

-> The smallest, hardcore cars that are acceptable in GT are specialized but road legal track cars like the Radical, Catherham, and Atom. On the S.S. department, the smallest race cars that can be appropriate on the GT series are the A1GP or F3 race cars. ;)

^Yes Jim thats exactly what I wanted to see, more ideas and comparisons.
I should have included in my topic that Karts and Single Seaters wont be the only option, im opened minded to any type of Pre-F1 open wheeled vehicle.

While we're at it, why not look at F1's "Just Below" sisters?

^Could they make it so that you could switch between Road Course and Superspeedway wingsets?

^Not exactly pretty, but quite fast.

The Vanishing Boy sorry, that shoud have been directed towards the both of you lol.

Are you kidding!? Its a sexy beast!

What series is that? I've seen them on tv before a long time ago but I remember loving the paint schemes of each car sporting a different flag and representing a different country.

I think this is actually a great idea. As many open wheel classes as possible. For a lot of open wheel classes they only have to model one car with a a number of liveries for them so it's an easy task and it would add a lot more to the game.

I'd like to see A1GP, GP2, Indy and a few random formulas. Karting is fine also but they do need to add a track or two for that.

And as always I'd love to see some older F1 cars in as well.

INTENSE!!!

As a consequence that I have been a karting racer since my childhood, would like to include some karting events in GT5. To me, there is no difference to include F1 cars in a Gran Turismo game, than Karts.

i think they should make another game just for karts like they did with Tourist Trophy for motorcycles

it would be psychotic to have motorcycles, karts, and cars all on the same track
but it would be nice to see how a kart or a cycle can go against a car on a track too.
