Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson said some horrific things after the earthquake in Haiti. This is Keith Olbermann's response to their utter lack of humanity.

The Limbaugh quote actually wasn't that bad. Most of it seemed accurate enough - even if not particularly timely. Pat Robertson is out of his mind of course.

Well, I've got a generally cynical view of the situation anyway. Despite it being the second-oldest republic in the new world, we as the United States have essentially ignored Haiti for 207 years, with exception of course only to our numerous interventions when it was of benefit to us. You know, the occupation in 1915-1934, the support of Papa Doc and Baby Doc, and the mess in 1991, 1994 and 2004. Sure, its absolutely terrible what has happened in Haiti, but all of this "Oh! Help Haiti! Look what happened! Here's $10!" stuff is just ridiculous. I can imagine the discussions I'd be having with one of my old professors right now...

Pretty much anything that tells me "MUST READ" or "MUST SEE" is going directly on my "Oh, really?" list.

I've never really understood American news reporting/journalism; it's entirely sensationalist and strikes me as highly personal and inappropriate reporting.

I have never, for instance, ever witnessed one journalist call out another for their comments in Canadian newsbroadcasting. But then, I've never witnessed those kinds of comments to warrant being called out.

It's just a liberal talking. There goal is to make conservatives look bad and make Obama look like the messiah. Most American reporting is all opinion and no substance. Rush though, is one of the few who actually know how report, and give a proper opinion.

The conservative pundits/commentators do the exact same thing the liberal pundits/commentators do. And Rush Limbaugh is no different...except that he abuses drugs.

Whether it's Rush, Olbermann, Scarborough, Robertson, or the Tooth Fairy, one thing should be clear.

In a broadcast or on a network that purports to offer NEWS, opinion should not be offered. Full stop.

As for Haiti, I think it's dangerously cynical to map geopolitics onto human tragedy. Whatever the differences between our politics, and whatever our difficult history may be, and however one might feel about the concept of charity in general, it seems pretty obviously abhorrent to call people's PERSONAL, nonpolitical desires to do something to help 'misguided', or as one person said, 'ridiculous'.

The main difference is that a liberal reporter, like Keith, is about 10% reporting 90% opinion, while conservative reporters (some) report completely impartially, then give an opinion, making it more of a 50% reporting, 50% opinion.

But then again this is a thread, which was designed so that people could do nothing but voice their opinion.

You know 84.6% of all statistics are made up, right? Conservatives are just as bad as liberals and vice versa, to think different just shows that you a blinded by ideology.

I've listened to both reporters for quite some time. Rush doesn't bash libs by making stupid pointless comments about them, he will however bash them if they do something worthy for say of being bashed.

Keith bursts out in comments which are totally useless, because he can't always come up with a worthy point, and he just wants it to sound as bad as possible, thereby making conservatives look bad. Just watch the video again.

Therein lies the problem. If one reports, then immediately voices an opinion, the opinion neccessarily colors the preceeding report to an audience who, presumably, consider the reporter a sort of authority figure. It doesn't matter whether the pundit spends 10% of his alloted time on exposition and 90% on commentary, whether it's 50-50, or even whether he only subtly implies a commentary (an act far more reprehensible, I think, than bald punditry). There's not even a shred of impartiality in that sort of exchange. Pundits, of any stripe, are NOT reporters.

Limbaugh bashes liberals all the time for whatever reason he deems important that day. He took the quake in Haiti as a way to bash the Obama administration. There is a lot we can bash the current administration for, an earthquake that affect a ton of people is not one of them.

And no where I have I said I agree with what Olbermann said. I've seen some of his stuff, he's no better then Limbaugh.

rush has made an entire carrer out of bashing libs by making stupid pointless comments based on half truths.

agreed completely

You're kidding, right?

Neither Limbaugh nor Olbermann are "reporters" in any reasonable sense of the word. I don't think most left-of-centre people would consider Olbermann a "reporter" - like Limbaugh, he is a "commentator" with a particular point to make.

The problem is that a significant number of people in the U.S. DO do seem to think that Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity etc. are "reporters".

I've taken it that anyone that far to either side of the aisle is a complete bullhead...well, I'd use more choice terms than that...and makes me feel good to be a moderate.

I've been a bit scarred by Limbaugh fans trying to be heroes of the U.S. on Forums...they simply end up starting flame wars.

Typically with Olbermann fans.

I've never really understood American news reporting/journalism;

Perfectly understandable mistake. You thought Olbermann was a reporter/journalist. He's not. I'm not actually sure we have any of those anymore. Everything is an opinion show these days.
