kind of interesting

Even if it is always a difficult challenge, the idea of comparing the income of the top professional athletes in the world is always interesting.

That's exactly what SID press agency managed to do, ranking the top professional athletes in the world for their earnings in 2003.

As usual, golfing legend Tiger Woods is still number one, earning around 100 million dollars in 2003, compared with approximately 62 million dollars for Michael Schumacher, who is in second place.

Football player David Beckham comes in third position, with 35,2 million dollars. Serena Williams is the top female athlete (eighth place overall), with 22,5 million dollars.

Ralf Schumacher is eleventh overall and second among F1 drivers, at 20,9 million dollars. These numbers include salary and all other forms of income, like advertising.

------

I know we were talking about this a little while back. I always thought someone like David Coulthard would be making more money then Ralf Schumacher.

ralf gets paid about 3 times more than montoya, and montoya was a championship contender. its ludicrist. ralf doesnt deserve all his money

But he's worth it to BMW, and that's why he's paid that much.

I wouldn't pay Ralf so much if I was in charge of Williams-BMW. Currently Ralf and Williams-BMW have failed to agree terms for 2005+, presumably Ralf wants even more money. But his market value has surely dropped this season with the performances of Montoya, Alonso, Webber and Raikkonen.

Williams probably pay that much because:
1) ralf, my not be No1 at williams, but he is still quite good
2) If he wasn't payed that much big bro Michael might try and steal him away to Ferrari
3) he doesn't want to be too far behind his big bro so he asks/demands for more.

Montoya was signed on a long term contract, that's why he doesn't get the same money as Ralph. When JPM signs a new contract, with whichever team, his financial situation will be much healthier.

That's already a done deal. $6m at McLaren, apparently.

Wastegate, BMW want Ralf that much not because he's a good driver (because palpably he isn't), but because he's German. It's a marketing exercise.

Willi Weber knows this, too.

german engine + reasonably successful german driver = good marketing strategy

since mercedes doesnt have a german driver, BMW would want ralf to keep that marketing advantage

6 million is all Montoya is getting for his new contract? I thought he would be getting at least 10 million at Mclaren. I'm surprised Montoya moved to Mclaren for that little. I would be thinking Williams would try to keep him by offering him at least that.

I doupt they will continue to pay Ralf so much when his contract ends. If they do, I'll bet it'll be a short contract. I think he may be at/if not past his prime.

This is kind of off topic, but I can't wait to see Montoya and Kimi together. It'll be a fantastic team.

I just have this feeling that they don't like each others that much:odd:.

Persnality wise, they're at opposite ends of the scale. But that's better than having two huge egos in a team.

Mclaren (sort of) managed it with Senna and Prost, so they should be all right with Montoya and Raikkonen.
