This Countach is the very first car JLOC used for JGTC/Super GT competition.

The project began by JLOC member Teruaki Terai who wanted to do some racing in a Lamborghini car. In 1993, Terai acquired a burned-out Countach to be built into race car for the still-new All-Japan GT Championship in 1994. By the spring of '94, the car was not finished and planned to missed the first race at Fuji Speedway.

But the race organizers, hearing the news of a Countach racing in the JGTC, requested the JLOC team to enter the Fuji event. Talks begin with exotic car dealer Art Sports for a Countach the team can race in. The car was mostly stock other than minor modification with a new rear wing, suspension/tire changes and safety upgrades.

The JLOC Countach competed in all 5 races of the 1994 JGTC season and the next year the car was replaced by the famed Diablo. Today, JLOC still competes in Lamborghinis in the now named Super GT series.

I wonder which category it raced in and what other cars it raced against

Before the 1996 change to the now-known GT500/GT300 class regulation, the JGTC used a GT1/GT2 classification similar to the FIA.

The Countach was put into the GT1 class where it was in the same class as....

Nissan Skyline GT-R R32s

Ferrari F40s.

And this Porsche 962C that enter in both Fuji races that year.

With that said the Countach was off 8-10 seconds from the GT-1 class pole times all year. Not surprising for it being a mostly stock 25th Anniversary model Countach.

Panoz, thanks for taking the time to put together a detailed answer to my question. Some very cool cars there. If this cup was emulated in GT that poor Countach should be given an upgrade so that its more of a match.

I have made a replica long ago ( GT5 ), then I remade it in GT6, and I just got the time to post it recently on my replica garage. Should be a decent replacement until the actual car will be in GT ( hopefully :D )

Please read the detailed notes for more information on the replica.
I saw the replica and it is very awesome. I'll try it one day. 👍

By the way, this Countach was replaced by Diablo from 1996:

#88 was used in 1996 Season.

Nice work. Its obvious that you really like this car

It was one of my favorite JGTC cars since SNES days of gaming :) The car was featured in an official JGTC game in SNES made by Kaneko :P

 Those cars should also be suggested here. If I can find the specs, I may be able to easily convert my Diablo GTR and SV-R replica to these beast :D

I think before JLOC got the GT-1 Diablo, they use Diablo JOTA for JGTC.

JOTA used Diablo first and then in 1999, JLOC took care of Diablo's racing in JGTC.

I'll suggest those cars later.

And I didn't know that there was an JGTC game in SNES...

Actually JLOC took over in 1996 :) Diablo Jota was used in 1995 to 1996, in 1997 JLOC used Diablo GTR, then 1998 to 2002, JLOC used Diablo GT-1 ( we have it in GT6, but only '00 ) There were too many DNF back in the 90's JGTC for the Diablo :(
The JGTC game was titled in Japanese :) Zen Nihon GT Shensuken / Hyper Battle GT :P

Yes, but the Diablo JGTC finished all races in 2000 season.
