I've often thought about that. I honestly never knew they were in Formula 1. I wish they'd give it another go, now that they've had more time to develope their engines and stuff. Probably won't happen, the teams are pretty well decided and it would take a lot to jump into that crowd at this point.

Count me in as a Larrouse fan.

The 1st GP I went to was the '89 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide. Back then there were V8's, V10's & V12's - each one having their own distinguishing note (the Yamaha didn’t sound like any V8 I’d heard before, or since). Both the Ferrari's and Lamboghini V12’s were definitely the pick of the bunch. They sounded great with their distinct shrill sound. Out of the two I always thought the Lambo sounded just that little bit sweeter. I'm sure those two motors alone caused my ears to continue ringing for hours after the race.

The multi coloured paint jobs of the Larrouse cars weren’t the flashiest around, maybe a little unique, but most of the time shape of the car was on the money, thanks to Chris Murpy (dunno what’s happened to that guy). I always had a soft spot for Phillipe Alliot so, very much a one lap wonder, but I liked him all the same.

Chrysler bought Lamboghini in 1992 and had some lofty ideas to get them places. McLaren built a pukka test car with a Lamborghini engine in 1993, which tested promisingly. For some reason (ask Ron Dennis) the deal to run them never came about. I do wonder what would have happened to Lamboghini if McLaren had decided to use them.

Its too bad becauseI forgot what engine Mclaren used, but the lamborghini was 7 MHP faster on the striaght at silverstone than the other engine they tested, so i wish they did take the lambo. There excusse was they were not sure how reliable the engine was. Oh well!!!

And what ever happened to Phillipe Alliot he was very consistent.

I don't think Chyrsler or Lamborghini put enough money in to building an F1 program, development was a little slow compared to other teams, and they tried to put their engine into too many teams (at times).

In 1989, the enigne had all the teething problems a first year is going to have, but it sure was quick when Alliot drove it. But in 1990, the engine was much more reliable, and the Larrousse (or Lola, as it turned out) was a reliable and efficient car design.

But for whatever reason, the engines went to Ligier for '91, and the car was a dog. Ligier didn't care becasue they knew they were getting Renault V10s the next year, so they didn't encourage any development of the Lambo unit. On top of that, there was some emphasis on that Modena/GLAS project (which got called Lamborghini) and was just a money pit.

In '92, the engines went back to Larrousse (but strangely, the chassis was called "Venturi") and stayed until the end of 1993. More power was developed, but reliability wasn't. It would have been interesting if McLaren had taken over development of the Lambo engines! But then again, it might have been another Peugeot.....

Alliot was a steady journey driver at best, but yeah, he was never given anything remotely competitve to drive.

Well you never know, with the sprawling VW group having its fingers in pretty much all the motorsport pies. Talk of them entering F1 is persistent, and a lot of rumours are surrounding them and Jordan. Personally, I would think that they would use the Audi badge, to compete with BMW/Mercedes/Jaguar, but you never know. Apparently, Lamborghini are amongst the best at hand-building engines, so you could see an Audi-badged Lambo-built V10 in the next five years.

Which would be cool!
