Ok, so I decided to do a writeup/ comparisment of the Lancers starting from the 1st model and working my way up, Ive done 14 out of the 17 EVO's. The only ones left are EVO VI GSR and EVO VI RS (due to a TME for each) and EVO VII GTA (Way less power than other VII).

But what I have done is this, pick a Lancer in Arcade mode and write down power/weight/torque/drivetrain and then go around Deep Forest on S3's until I cant go any faster unless I spend ages and ages on it. Ive noted down the Fastest Speed and Lowest Speed that I achieved on the lap.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10th) Lancer 1600 GSR (1973) Power 80KW @6700rpm / Torque 131.15NM @4800rpm / Weight 825kg / FR
Time - 1'36.856, Highest speed 178.0kph / Lowest Speed 88.2kph

This car is quite fast considering what numbers it has, and it handles nice as well. For its time this is not a bad car.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8th) Lancer EX 1800 GSR IC Turbo (1983) Power 118KW @5800rpm / Torque 215.59NM @3500rpm / Weight 1085kg / FR
Time - 1'34.975, Highest speed 186.7kph / Lowest Speed 82.3kph

Handles surprisingly well and is very nimble, though is short of power, keep the revs up and this thing cruises along nicely. Chassis would do well with more power and torque.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7th) Lancer EVO GSR (1992) Power 183KW @6000rpm / Torque 308.69NM @3000rpm / Weight 1240kg / 4WD
Time - 1'32.196, Highest speed 200.0kph / Lowest Speed 76.7kph

Lancers first job at 4WD system really shows, this thing under steers heaps and power delivery is crude, Still way faster than any other Lancer though. With a few tweaks to the 4WD system and power delivery this car has lots of potential.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=6th) Lancer EVO II GSR (1994) Power 196KW @6000rpm / Torque 308.69NM @3000rpm / Weight 1250kg / 4WD
Time - 1'30.454, Highest speed 203.5kph / Lowest Speed 76.7kph

Much, much more improved 4WD system over the EVO, way less under steering. Plus some more power makes the EVO II a big step forward over the EVO.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=6th) Lancer EVO III GSR (1995) Power 197KW @6250rpm / Torque 308.69NM @3000rpm / Weight 1260kg / 4WD
Time - 1'30.298, Highest speed 202.3kph / Lowest Speed 79.9kph

A more refined power delivery and 4WD system make it a tad quicker and easier to drive than the EVO II
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5th) Lancer EVO IV GSR (1996) Power 204KW @6500rpm / Torque 352.79NM @3000rpm / Weight 1350kg / 4WD
Time - 1'29.038, Highest speed 207.6kph / Lowest Speed 84.2kph

This lancer builds on the EVO III in every way (especially weight :dunce:, nice chassis though could do with a bit more power.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=4th) Lancer EVO VI GSR TME (2000) Power 232KW @6500rpm / Torque 372.39NM @2750rpm / Weight 1360kg / 4WD
Time - 1'26.683, highest speed 215.6kph / Lowest speed 81.8kph

This car feels fast, but just isn’t as quick as the EVO V, it under steers more and feels heavier than the V. This car looks really nice though:tup: It also seems to have stiffer suspension, which could be a reason for under steering a bit too much over this bumpy track.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=4th) Lancer EVO VII GSR (2001) Power 235KW @6500rpm / Torque 382.19NM @3500rpm / Weight 1400kg / 4WD
Time - 1'26.423, Highest speed 217.3kph / Lowest Speed 82.3kph

This car has the power but just weighs to much, under steers a tad too much because of it. Shave off 100 kilos and this will be a much better car, though then you’d just go for the RS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=4th) Lancer EVO V GSR (1998) Power 229KW @6500rpm / Torque 372.39NM @3000rpm / Weight 1360kg / 4WD
Time - 1'26.309, highest speed 216.7kph / Lowest speed 83.0kph

Way more power and grip than previous versions. 4WD system is much more refined and doesn’t under steer as much as previous versions. Changes gears faster as well. This car is really quick.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd) Lancer EVO VII RS (2001) Power 235KW @6500rpm / Torque 382.19NM @2750rpm / Weight 1320kg / 4WD
Time - 1'25.901, highest speed 217.8kph / Lowest speed 77.1kph

This car is fast and handles nice, but just cant catch the lighter VI RS TME. Still a brilliant lap time though.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=2nd) Lancer EVO VIII GSR (2003) Power 236KW @6500rpm / Torque 391.99NM @3500rpm / Weight 1410kg / 4WD
Time - 1'25.650, highest speed 218.8kph / Lowest speed 84.6kph

This car hides its weight well, I was very surprised on how nice it handled, It had less under steer than most of the other Lancers and had some real nice power (as you can tell by Highest Speed)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=2nd) Lancer EVO VI RS TME (2000) Power 232KW @6500rpm / Torque 372.39NM @3000rpm / Weight 1260kg / 4WD
Time - 1'25.452, Highest Speed 218.6kph / Lowest Speed 85.1kph

Very quick car this one, Lovely balance and a dream to drive compared to the rest. It seems the RS is more of a track car than the GSR.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=1st) Lancer EVO VIII RS (2003) Power 235KW @6500rpm / Torque 391.99NM @3500rpm / Weight 1320kg / 4WD
Time - 1'24.956, Highest Speed 221.1kph / Lowest Speed 85.4kph

Extremely quick car, love it, plenty of power and handles very nice. Tied with the VIII GSR MR as the best lancer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
=1st) Lancer EVO VIII GSR MR (2004) Power 240KW @6500rpm / Torque 399.83NM @3500rpm / Weight 1400kg / 4WD
Time - 1'24.919, Highest Speed 219.0kph / Lowest Speed 81.1kph

Shave a few kg off this car and it will be the quickest Lancer, but as it is, its equal with the VIII RS, Both of these are the cream of the crop as far as lancers are concerned. Very lovely car.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion, Well the EVO VIII RS and VIII GSR MR are the best, though you have to hand it to the 1998 EVO V GSR, with a bit more power he will be up there at the pointy end. Times within .3 of each other are counted as equal as thats what ive allowed for due to driver consistency, any more than .3 and the difference is based on the car. .3 is pushing it a bit though as I did push the lap reasonably hard, and didn’t settle for a slow time, but better to be on the safe side. The end lancers were more powerful yet weighed heaps, shave a bit of weight off (like the RS) and they are very fast cars. Another thing to note, was that each new model had slighty stiffer suspension than the previous one.

Reckon your main comparison should be amongst the GSR's but you could add the other models in as side comparisons?

Otherwise good job SF.

Good job Fryz !...

I'm not really an Evo guy, but nice to see someone take the time for "projects" like this 👍

It's funny, with any car, that the later generation cars get heavier and heavier.

Great job SF.

in real life, the evo 3 and 6 are considered superior to their two predecessors, as they are the last of that particular body shape and have had the most refinements. all the driving aids also help. a makkinen is a quick car around a racetrack, even with an amateur driver at the helm

i personally like the evo 4 best for its looks, it's tough without being tacky like the 6 and 7. the 5 is alright. evo 1/2/3 look like girls cars to me :P the 8 is a definate improvement. but that's just my opinion :)

the GSR is the luxury version of the evolution lancer, the RS is the lightweight race version. depending on model, silly un-needed things such as foglights, rear wiper, ABS, aircon, power windows and doors, boot lining, handbrake boot, stereo, interior lights and alot of sound deadening are not present in the RS. the rear wing is also gone, and the car comes with steel wheels, as it's likely a race car is going to have aftermarket versions of these items on it anyway

if you like, i'll write out a Zoom magazine editorial from a couple of issues ago, where the journalist went for a drive in an evo 8. he ranted and raved and wet his pants and said it was the best car he'd ever been in, the only real gripe he had was the cheap still-just-a-lancer interior

Well done chips.

At least now i know which ones to buy and which ones to forget, as i am not really bothered about Lancer's anyway, so you just saved me 10 mins of reading scrolling text.

Ta.

Oh yeah.... You have WAY too much time.

hehe

Have you thought about doing a Subaru Impreza WRX Sti one? Or a Nissan Skyline one? I have a feeling that there would be about 50 different Skylines for you to test.

Dedicated work that I know I can use Small_Fryz!!!👍 Thanks for taking the time not only to do this but to share it with us as well. It is always a bugger for me in Gran Turismo to decide on a Lancer (they all look the same to me  ) and this just made it easier to do that. :)

Good Job!!!

Great job smallfryz!

You know what I'm gonna have to do now?

Im gonna have to test these out for myself and see what happens. :D

With any luck I will find the time for this as well as a test for skylines... but don't wait on it cause it may be a while. ;)

In any case, great job small.
I look forward to seeing what else you're going to come up with this time around. 👍

I've actually been working on a Skyline one with facts from GT and driving impressions and also with real world data like differences in the model designations.
