Laptop to TV connection issues

So I'm trying to connect my new-ish Lenovo thinkpad edge to my TV, a Sanyo using a HDMI cable. When I hook everything up the picture from my laptop appears and the sound transfers to the TV however the image on my TV extends past the edges of the screen, but not by much, as a reference about half of my taskbar is cut off. I tried to turn off mirroring and just output to the TV but the image becomes even larger on the TV, resulting in more of it cut off. I also tried to keep mirroring on and set the resolution for 1280x720 and the image was still cut off, the same amount as the higher resolutions. Before anyone asks I have tried adjusting the picture shape on my TV along with all these changes so it's not that. I'm sure I'm just missing a simple step, but after watching videos of this, everyone else just plugs the cable in and their TV picture fits. Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Sometimes you need to adjust the overscan/underscan on the GPU settings to get a good fit on a TV. What kind of GPU has your laptop got?

Some instructions I have found....

1.
Open Graphics Properties

Should open Intel applet.

2.
Enter Advanced Mode (if asked)

3.
Click dropdown for Scaling

Under Display/General Settings, should be default

4.
Click on Customize Aspect Ratio

Adjust scaling for H & V (I started with 60/60 but may differ depending on monitor)

Hmm no scaling option, under display I have -
General settings
Multiple displays
Color enhancement
Custom resolutions
Monitor/tv settings

Now under custom resolution there is a slider for underscan percentage
