What is the LARGEST gap you have gained on the AI Cars?

Outside of ANY oval track.

I'm trying to figure out something about the game, and I want to know how much of a gap can be developed between the user and AI cars.

PLEASE, ONLY CONFIRMED gaps. If a image can be provided with the gap amount displayed that would be perfect.

When posting the Gap PLEASE post what Rank, and weather your in Single Make race or not.

I've noticed I can't get more than 2 seconds ahead of the AI on S ranked events, even then it usually hovers around .800 behind when I'm ahead. For B/D ranked events 6-7 seconds, with an average of 2.5 seconds behind seems about right.

Thanks!

Is that with same make cars or not?

Surprising, I got taken on the deep inside by an AI car once on S-Rank (Not limited to same make), it surprised the hell out of me. I overtook him in the next corner, but I was very surprised to see him do this. He had 2 wheels in the grass, and tried to push through me in the corner, like he was a USER using me as an AI car to make the corner.

Have you noticed the AI draft blocking? (Moving to keep the user out of there draft line)

I can do a lot of quick (not HOT) consistent laps making very few mistakes, so I think these numbers are a good guage for how I'm doing against the AI. Usually you make this gap right off the bat and it holds the whole race.

S - average 0.8 to 1.8 sec gap, biggest gap I've held maybe 2.2 sec
A - 1.8 to 3 sec, max held 4 or so
B - 2 to 5 sec
C - 4 to 8 sec
D - 6 to 10+ sec

The AI just forces itself to hold these gaps, and only really makes a move when you mess up or if they have a big advantage in the straights and/or bends. And generally the game won't let you have car that's too slow in the straights AND bends lol.

*edit* BTW I've never done a race where it excludes other manufacturers yet, though I should have a few times...

This seems to be about what I've seen. Averages for any car on any track (sans ovals and dirt/snow), it doesn't seem to matter really.

I've not noticed the AI "blocking" but they do hold their line and if you are on the outside of them they will push you into the grass. Typical GT AI behavior though. Not overly aggressive and not unfair, just not that smart.

On one of the Cathedral tracks I had a 30 second lead. The AI all had RWD (The Spyker I think) and I trounced them in the GT-R.

The biggest gap I have gotten on a D race on tarmac is about 4 seconds. The AI will usually gain some of that back on the last lap.

Racing B on the Nurburgring I couldn't get more than 2 to 2.5 seconds ahead.

I saw some really aggressive passing on the straight at La Sarthe. I would get side-swiped as he would go past. I thought it might have been me, but it happened twice.

I've lapped on Chamonix. It was just one car but it was a surprise to me. You usually do get quite big leads on dirt and snow tracks.

My leads on normal tracks are similar to what people have described previously: up to 20 seconds (depending on the track) but generally 10ish at D, 7/8 at C, 5 ish at B, 2/3 at A and about a second at S rank. These are all the upper limits on leads that I've had, they're usually a bit closer.

I never do single make races just so you know.

Has anybody Tried running the Mines Skyline at Fuji Full S-Rank NOT limited to single make. Short 3-lap race.

If not please try this and tell me what cars you were racing, and the gaps, etc..

I used the mini given at the start, raced at Nurburgring using N1 tires no asists and S rank. My gap was 30 seconds but i crashed a few times.

DAMN that's a large gap for S-Rank, I bet even with the RBE power the Mini is still too slow lol

I remember getting about a 30 second gap on them at Apricot Hill in the F2007. It was on D, or B rank, and I never actually lost time to them, it kept on going up by the lap.

Do you guys think lowering the tires to something like R1 or S3 might make it harder or easier to build/maintain those gaps?

Don't think so. I only drive with S1 or N3 tires (R1s on race cars). I'm not one to throw R3s on a civic or some such thing. It's not made a difference. In S events the AI is always .8-2 seconds behind regardless of tires.

One thing I have noticed with race cars, not street cars, is unless I get ahead of the lead AI car by the end of the first lap (of a 3-5 lap S event) the lead AI car is gone and I'll not get within 2 seconds of it the rest of the race. In fact often I see that lead AI car gaining 2+ seconds a lap on me. Like I said only with race cars though. Street cars it's not happened and even if the lead AI car is ahead of me after lap 1 it doesn't gap me like that.

Have you tried this in high powered street cars that the game puts you up against race cars?

Like the Mines Skyline, They always Pit me against race cars when I drive it.

The biggest gap I gotten in Rank S was at the Nurburgring. That long stretch of fast road where my GT-R '09 got up to 156mph before that sequence of turns into the Karrusel =)

The gap was 3.670 seconds

i managed to get 13 seconds lead over second place with subaru impreza sedan sti wrx '04 today on 'B' rank @ 'ice arena' in two laps, i am confident that this lead would continue to increase as the number of laps is increased.
also i have noticed that with me driving the Tommy Kaira ZZII on 'B' rank @ 'suzuka' (full world course) i am able to make good leads against the veyrons et al, though i would need to check specific times as have not raced there in a while.

I wouldn't call the Mines Skyline a "street car". I get that it is technically but I think the GT series classifies it as a "race car", at least in as much as selecting cars for it to race. The only car I tend to drive alot that comes close to a Mines is the Spoon s2000, though that is a proper race car built to N1 spec. I tend to get a grid mixed of race cars (mostly WRC cars or cars or FF race cars) and tuned cars.

I do drive the GTR V-Spec often, on S1s and tend to get the occasional race car on the grid, though they are usually tuned cars and high powered street cars.

It made some difference for me because when I changed to R tyres, I was getting so much grip that I was pulling away more. I tend to stick with N or S tyres on road going vehicles. I can't ever imagine buying an R tyre for my car in real life.

Yeah for whatever reason the AI always seems to go very slow through that section. Almost every time I go through there I gain at least a second or two on the AI it seems, even on S rank:)

On S rank I can make a 2.2 second gap going about 8.5-9/10ths on most tarmac courses, going 10/10ths the gap remains the same even though my laps are quicker. I have never achieved any higher without using *shortcuts* (i.e. fuji) but the AI still seems to earn those back at an alarming rate.

A good Minute or So on Grand Canyon using me Ford RS200 (In my view a Pretty Underrated Car in the Game)

I even managed to Lap the Jag E Type in last Place (which seemed an odd Choice for a Gravel Track ¬.¬

S-Rank Test Track with Veyron against 3 GT by Citroens, I had a 2.257 lead over them at the start of the final corner, 2.845 at the finish line.

I've noticed this also on "El Capitan" ... on the "jumpy" section after the tunnel.... they always hit the outside wall when ever I race the track in S rank....

One thing that is a little strange too is that usually I'll try and push one car out into the dirt (such as la sarthe) and amazingly the cars wont loose ANY traction!!... infact I've seen a car slide onto the sand... and just keep going as if it was on tarmac!... I bearly touch the sand with a tire and I'm spinning like crazy into the wall... ???????????

Yea this resulted in much screaming by me while playing GT5P. Especially on Suzuka... it's like as soon as they hit that dirt, they're WRC cars running full tilt to get back on the track. Really I think it's just false force trying to keep the AI on track. Meanwhile, if you hit it it becomes a portal to another dimension. Which I guess is realistic.

On PSP I use standard physics most of the time. Grass isn't such demonic hell-flora then.

agreed!!... I've cursed at my tv as well many times..... but, what can you do.
