So I get the call in early march that tells me that my beloved GT4 has finally arrived, albeit a year after I first pre-ordered it, and to top it off I have the next day off of work, WHAT LUCK!!! I get it home and begin to explore the new game, after a transfer of my credits, nice feature, I get a basic car and begin some beginner races. Once I got a little bored I decided to check out the DRiving MIssions! After blowing through the first I thought well i will just keep going, these are too easy :indiff: It didn't take long on mission 11 to discover that this was not going to be as easy as I thought, so after an hour of frustration I turned the game off, disgusted at the challenge set before me 👎 Then I got to 50 percent of the game and got bored :guilty: So i started over with new strategies. After reading some posts from people whining that the game was too hard, and responses telling them to find a nice arcade racer to play, i thought, the licenses in the original were tough at first, I just need to practice. I mean do I really want to just blow throught this game like it was the first one again :scared: NO WAY!!!!!!

So now, after reaching 25% again to access the endurance races, I decide to tackle the driving missions again :nervous:
I blow throught the first ten again and am not ready for 11 yet so I decide that slipstreaming sounds like fun. I finish 21 and 22 easily and expect the same from mission 23, wrong, the first shot out I draft through the field to about 175mph and begin to catch the lead car and hit the wall, oops wrong strategy. So I began my journey of trial and error to catch that pesky lead car, finally I discover that i need to draft at the end of the straights into the turns and let the AI draft back by me and repeat at the ends of the straights, after some frustating spin outs from aggressive AI in the turns I finally catch the right rhythm and finish .5 seconds behind the lead car, after about 3 more tries I finally catch some luck and on the third lap in the backstrech 2 AI cars are close enough to draft by me and I catch an awesome draft into the last turn that gives me enough speed to catch the lead cars slipstream and pass him exiting the final turn for a .3 second victory, ha ha victory. Mission 24 in the amuse S2000 proves much easier(3 tries) and at 5 am I retire to bed with a new Zonda race car in my garage, and completely in love my GT4. Thanks PD for putting a challenge in the game that is worthy of some of your oldest fans, those of us who have been with you since GT1.

This was my first try at a write up so I hope it was entertaining, I certainly have learned a lot of good tips here!!! Thanks everyone.
HARDCORE GT4 OR GO HOME 👍

Nice writeup!

I tried to do 23 three times and decided to try it again later. It was a little frustrating being able to do 21&22 'with one hand tied behind my back' as the saying goes and then find out that you actually have to coax the AI to help you for #23.

Yep Mission 23 is a bit of tricky. You have to draft AI cars, then you have to let AI draft you. By doing that repeatly, you will eventually catch up the first Skyline. There are few tips: 1. choose your position on the track, you have to position your car on the outter yellow line. Keep right side of your wheels right on the line. (very important, AI seems catch you quicker) 2. Do not wait for AI cars, always give full throttle. You should do no less than 163mph through turns. 3. I believe there is Video posted up for each mission in the message board. If you still have difficulty to beat this mission you might want to take a look at those videos.

Hey I'd been having trouble with this one too! I found if I slipstream the first bunch where I catch them (somewhere in turn 1) I end up stuck between them and the leader for about a lap and a half. I tried letting them slipstream me and vice versa but haven't yet got that done well enough to get within 3 seconds of the leader. What almost paid off for me was to just drive around the whole lap as near to the left of the track as I could. In corners this kept my speed up to about 162mph, and it meant I was travelling a shorter distance than the leader. I was 1.3 seconds behind him at the finish. I will have more slipstreaming attempts as described above to crack this one.

The slipstream missions were the most fun in my opinion especially the last 2 where you actually get some speed. I found the best results letting 2 of the cars pass me so I could get a double slip and hit close to 180 before the turns. I was able to win by quite a bit doing this on the nissans.

ok, I realize I'm reviving a well dead thread, but I need it...

I can't seem to get the AI cars to slipstream me. I finished about 3 seconds behind the leader with the rest of the pack about 5 seconds behind me. I just can't get the other guys to follow me! Is there any secret other than staying on the outside yellow line?

Why in the hell do these AI cars brake before the corner???
There is just no need for braking. I ones finished 0.5 sec from the lead car.
AI cars always seem to pass me just before the corner and then just in front of me, they hit the brakes. :yuck: 👎

In quote from a faq I was going to do but later scrapped:

To do this draft battle, you need to start normally. As soon as you get to 160MPH, shift into 6th gear. It helps accelerate the car (because 160MPH/175MPH in 6th is closer to it's peak torque figure than the same speeds in 5th) and makes it so you don't have to worry about shifting at all. You should come up on the Skyline pack going around 172MPH/175MPH, depending on your smoothness and line through the turn. Feather the brakes and pull behind either the black or the red Skyline. When choosing a Skyline, keep these four things in mind: 1: the black Skyline is on the inside, making it dead even with the Red GT-R (which is slighly ahead but on the outside). 2: The two other A.I. cars behind them will swerve whilst you pull up. This is how it always happened: the Silver GT-R slides up towards the outside as you approach, so avoid passing from the outside. The White GT-R behind that one pulls to the inside as a result of the Silver one sliding up, so if you choose the Black one, move quickly or the White one will spin you out. 3: Make sure you are going about 168MPH-/69MPH when you get on your choice of Skyline's rear bumper, or you'l be slapped with the time penalty. 4: If you choose the red one, beware that a short time before exiting the turn, the Silver GT-R will pull back down, so don't be there. This shouldn't be a problem because by then you should be too far ahead for it to hit you.
Now, just hold down the throttle and pretty much push the red/black GT-R around the track. If your good and don't wander off to the side or anything, you should hit 171MPH/172MPH by the time the red/black car brakes for the turn, dragging your speed back down to 162MPH/163MPH (It will alternate widly between the two. This is because the A.I. in this case only use 3/4 throttle through the turns.) You still have an advantage through the turns, as your speed alternates, while the leader (except for the red/black one and yours) stay at 161 constantly (basically meaning that you are always going faster than him). Now, when going down the straights, the other A.I. will catch up and make an attempt to pass. Don't, repeat, don't, move from behind the Skyline your pushing. They will attempt a pass and nearly instantly be going slower than you, so it will be fine. They may nose ahead of you, but they won't try to pull in line, and very soon will fall behind. Do the same for every straight and turn until you get to the last turn in the last lap.

This is where it gets tricky. By this point you should know where the A.I. car you are pushing brakes for the turn. You should also be within 3 and 1/2 seconds of the leader (based on the last checkpoint time). Now, right when you hit 171 MPH, pull left to the red/black GT-R, but only a so your are just completely out from behind him, so you can still draft off of the sides of his car. Be careful to make sure that nobody is on the inside of you when you do it, as there was the black GT-R there about a half second before I needed to pull out.

Code:
Like this: [!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
             [!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!] /\
                    /\ Red/Black GT-R
                Your Car Rear Bumper
              Front Bumper
If done right, you should hit 172 MPH because you're not pushing anyone anymore. Now, immediantly after he brakes and is out of the way, take his line and ride with your left wheel centered on the upper yellow line. This allows you to pick up the leaders draft faster. Now, be very steady and ride this line until you feel the car accelerating. Then, slowly pull into the same line as the leader (he'll be more on the inside than you will be) and let your car suck up to his. Then, to be safe, pass on the outside without hitting his car or letting off the gas. This is so you get a good draft as you pass him too. You should blow by him going very close indeed to 180MPH (A.K.A. 178MPH/179MPH) with about an 1/8 of the last turn left. Just finish the race nice and smooth (there's barely any left anyways) and don't do anything stupid. This way you don't have to worry about making the other A.I. cars catch you to pass you, and is generally easier than the more accepted way of doing it.

That's how I did it. I tried it four times (twice with red GT-R, twice with black GT-R) and it worked each time.

Aggh... I hate that mission! Took me forever to finish! Can't remember whether I went with the push method or the double draft... actually, a push on the back of a drafter often gets you there fastest... I was riding that yellow line for so many hours, I thought my eyes would pop out.

Good thread about Mission 23 here:

Solutions toward the end. Key for me was keeping my right-side tires on the yellow line and moving over just before the AI goons rear-ended me, then ducking back in behind them when two went by. If a third rear-ends you, that's okay.

Yeah... that's the best situation, when the third car in line hits you and you get to slipstream the second as he passes the first... awfully tough to get, though.
