LMES Suzuka 1000 kilometers Endurance Race

The Le Mans Endurance Series has added a sixth race to its 2005 LMES calendar. At the behest of Kazumichi Goh, owner of last year’s Le Mans winning team, the series will travel to Japan to take part in the Suzuka 1000 kilometers race. Not only will this event feature the regular LMES competitors, but a bonus is the addition of American Le Mans Series teams, each having been given an offer to compete. It is shaping up to be one of the best endurance races in recent history.

(Cars in bold have been reserved.)

Rules
* Race will be the Suzuka 1000 kilometers under Endurance Events in Gran Turismo mode.
* Cars will be available on a first-claimed, first-reserved basis. Drivers will choose an eligible Gran Turismo car, then will choose a car from the list of 2005 ALMS/LMES/Le Mans LMP1 entries to represent. Cars marked with the asterisk must use that Gran Turismo car. (Example: Champion/Oreca Audis must be Gran Turismo Audis; factory/Pescarolo Courages must be Gran Turismo Pescarolo-Judds.)

* The car’s horsepower must remain stock as won/purchased, except for oil changes.
* Suspension, aerodynamic and gear settings may be changed.
* Stability management (ASM) must be set to 0. Traction control (TCS) may be set to 1, but may not be set any higher.
* Standard on-line racing rules apply. Drivers must keep at least two wheels on the track/kerbs at all times (no wall-riding, grass/track cutting, etc.). This includes the pavement on the outside of the 130R corner. Avoid unnecessary contact with the slower AI cars.

* Qualifying will take place from midnight US Eastern Time Monday, October 17 to midnight US ET Thursday, October 20. In Gran Turismo mode, drivers will go into World Circuits/Suzuka Circuit/Practice. Drivers will post their best single lap time, including sector times, in the forum thread. Drivers may post as many qualifying laps as they wish. Soft compound tires and different suspension set-ups may be used for qualifying.
* After qualifying, time adjustments will be made to the race times based on qualifying position. Each row lower on the grid will be an extra half-second added to the race times. (Example: Row 2 –positions 3 and 4- add 0.5 sec. to race time, Row 3 –positions 5 and 6– add 1.0 sec. to race time)

* Drivers are allowed unlimited practice, but may only complete the race once.
* A minimum of one hour of the race must be done in B-spec mode. (Like a real endurance race where you hand over to a co-driver.) The hour of the race that is done in B-spec is up to each driver.

* Drivers must PM:
- car/car’s HP/tire compound used
- total race time
- fastest race lap
- race time at the end of laps 1, 43, 86 and 129 (for the race write-up)
- pit stops (for the race write-up)
- B-spec information: lap and race time B-spec began and ended hour-long stint/b-spec average lap time
- A small race report (spins, contact, etc.) is also requested.

All race times are due by midnight US Eastern Time Sunday, October 23. Results will be posted Monday, October 24, with a race write-up to follow later in the week.

Any questions can be offered in this thread or sent via PM. I look forward to your participation and hope you have an enjoyable experience in this race.

Thanks for the PM mate, but this race is too long for me, and after BC5, im just gonna take it easy in GT and run a few races here and there, sorry.

I will however spread the word!

thanks 👍

Jpec started a leMans race in June and he never posted the results. Fortunately I bailed on the race after an hour thinking will he really post the times. What assurances can you give to make sure we don't waste our time?

First off, this is 1000 kms., so it should only take about 5 hours to complete. I would love to organize a 24 hours race at Le Sarthe, but that is too much, even for me.

Second, remember the JGTC Grand Valley 300 kms. race I hosted in May? I believe I went the whole nine yards for that one, even posting a write-up about the race in the "Race Reports" forum. I got plenty of great reviews for that race.

In the end, I can only give you my word as a dedicated LMP and OLR fan. I assure you, you will not be wasting your time by signing up. The main thing I want to give everyone the most realistic GT4 racing experience possible.

I really hope you will be joining us.

BTW, I see you traded the Durango for the Crossfire. Nice.

Okay, I've waited about a week. So I'm gonna go ahead and choose my car. I'm taking the factory Zytek, No. 15. (Of the Gran Turismo cars, I'm using the BMW. It sorta reminds me of the Zytek.)

hrmm more interest needs to be interested.... i dont fancy a 2 horse race, when were you planning on running the care?

I would love to take part in this race, and it would be a pleasure to take the Audi Playstation Team Oreca R8...

But.

A big but. I just hate Suzuka, I can't drive it at all and I don't really want to spend four hours on it in a hugely fast car like my R8, so... I won't be taking part in this one. But I will keep my eyes open for the next similar race!

DE

Sorry I haven't checked in the past few days, internet connection has been down and waiting for Verizon to fix anything....a test of one's patience.

DE, I'm sorry to hear that. (You got my hopes up. ;) ) However, one hour of the race has to be done in B-spec, and if your B-spec driver is really good, you can do more of the race in B-spec mode, cutting down the amount of time you drive. I hope you will reconsider your entry. (You would have a 1-in-3 shot of winning as of right now...) I know I would really appreciate another entry.

ls2_297, I had hope for more entries. I'm trying to get some of the people who ran the aborted Le Mans 24 Hr. race earlier this year to join in. (I figure if they're willing to do 24 hours, why not do a race that's just 5 hours?) I plan on running my race on the scheduled 10/22-23. I hope you'll stick with me.

Mulsanne, you may have just about swung me there 👍 the deadline is approaching fast but.....................

I'm in.
The number 4 Audi Playstation Team Oreca Audi R8 is now taken by Dark Elite and his well-known team-mate, Bob! I'm glad you said horsepower must be stock because I love the R8 as it is, in fact I will change the oil and wash it, then return it to stock settings and go for it :sly:! Yes, yes I hate Suzuka and yes I can't stand Bob's incompetence but what the hell! Maybe this will cure my loathing of the track! I will have a lot of problems with using OLR Standards for four hours, but... Can we be let off with the occasional rally stint/kitty litter visit? If not, I'll just have to go slowly :)

I've signed on, I ain't signing off again until my R8 has another 600-odd miles on it 👍

By the way, I love the R8 in the Champion Racing livery but I look too much like a glory supporter if I take it  besides, the car I drive will be in drab grey anyway so meh!

Thanks for signing up. As for off-course excursions, I understand mistakes happen, so as long as no advantage is gained, go right ahead. And I HATED the new Fuji track, but after doing a JGTC race there last season, it became a little more tolerable. (Of course, finishing second in the GT500 class helped a lot....)

Cool! Thank you both very much. 👍 👍

Oh, one more thing...Even though I supported the Champion team this past June, I still think the Playstation Oreca Audi was the best-looking car out there. I hope they put one of those in the next GT.

SimRaceDriver, I tried to reply to the PM, but for some reason it wouldn't let me. Just wanted to tell you thanks for considering an entry.

Count me in Mulsanne.

Selected Car:

Gran Turismo 4 car : Pescarolo Sport (F) *Pescarolo C60 #18

Real Car: #16. Pescarolo Sport (F) *Pescarolo C60 Evo – Judd 5.0a (M) LMP1

Mulsanne, that's what I figured. Maybe this will sort out my anti-Suzuka-ness! *finds old R8 pictures* *searches for the Oreca car...* Oh yeah that is niiiice... Picture attached for those who haven't had the pleasure.

Thanks for joining, Earth! 👍 👍

Yeah, Suzuka in a LMP car is an experience. Especially the Esses and the Spoon Curve. Get a little off-line and you've either lost time or gone off the track.

Great photo, BTW.

Sure thing Mulsanne

Ran a few El Captain 200 miles and bought a new #18 Pescarlo Judd last night.

It took a while to get use to the esses, you have to have finesse. I hate late apexes, and this track is full of them.

I managed to get into the 1:4x.xxx range in racing trim. After 100 miles of practie I've made tremendous strides to my racing line and car setup. I found all the braking points and I'm hitting my marks better and better.

Best top speed at end of front straight 209.4 mph in qualifiying trim

All right guys, qualifying has begun.

Just a reminder:
* The car’s horsepower must remain stock as won/purchased, except for oil changes.
* Suspension, aerodynamic and gear settings may be changed.
* Stability management (ASM) must be set to 0. Traction control (TCS) may be set to 1, but may not be set any higher.
* Standard on-line racing rules apply. Drivers must keep at least two wheels on the track/kerbs at all times (no wall-riding, grass/track cutting, etc.). This includes the pavement on the outside of the 130R corner.

Good luck to everyone.

Pescarlo Judd C60

1:36.791

S1: 43.459

S2: 1:18.260

I went ahead and ran the 1000k on Sunday, oh boy what a learning experience. I wish I could do it over again, so many thing I would have done differently.

I would have liked to join this race as well, but I don't have enough time to compete in one right now and besides that I also haven't played GT4 the past 15 weeks or something like that. Another problem is that I don't have any of those LMP's right now :P

If there's gonna be a new endureance race like this (as long as it's not a 24 hour race :P), I'll be sure to be there! :)
