Leaderboard Changes Please

Starting a thread about changes I would love made/implimented to the Leaderboards in Campaign and Arcade.

Campaign Changes

REPLAYS* I would love for them so add replays for everyone (including those not in the top 10 so we could see our friends replays) Everyone would start reporting all the cheaters and we could get them out the game already. I see so many 7 second full lap times and it gets old... also if they added the replay they would learn how to patch the glitches quicker as well.

REFRESH and MAINTAIN* I would love for them to clear the leaderboards after implementing the replays and keep up with maintaining a valid Top 10. If they find someone cheating they should individually wipe them off the board and suspend/ban the account.

Arcade Changes

Friends* They should add friends times for sure and perhaps even global times to the Arcade Time Trials! So many of my friends wanna know what I’ve run on a specific track with a specific car and I always have to go in and screenshot it and send it to them. Would be much easier if we could just see each others times.

One Car One Time* What I mean by this is it should only save the best time per car to the local leaderboards. Otherwise the entire list gets filled with times from one car and you can’t compare other cars as easily. I constantly have to keep up with self deleting the slower time to keep my board looking the way I want it to. If I were to run Blue Moon Bay for example; the entire list for Non-BOP would just say FT-1 from 1st to 20th... if I run a better time than my current best time I have to delete the slower one manually in order to keep the other cars on the list. With this method it shortens the list from Top 20 to Top 19 technically because the 20th time gets booted off everytime I run it again with one of the top cars.

Those are my proposals. Does anyone else want to see similar or different changes to the leaderboards?

They sound like some great additions and I don't see any harm in any of it. I would love to be able to see my friends time's for sport mode, even across the pond, and even if we don't get to race with them in sport mode.

I would love it if they implemented ghosts and leaderboards like in drive club, where as you got faster they kept putting a faster lap time in front of you to keep you pushing.

honestly, I can't believe there's no global/friends leaderboard in arcade mode. It's laughable.

I wish there was a leaderboard tracking times (specifically for the Ring) for non-tuned/default cars only. Take a car as it came from the dealer and set your best time and compare with friends and the world...

Had to do the same. Friends/global times should've been on Time Trial leaderboards from the start.

This whole side of the game is severely lacking in my opinion - even now the best system in any game I've played is that found in Driveclub. The way it tracks laptimes versus the leaderboard, updates every lap to show the next fastest ghost etc is brilliant. If GT implemented what is a relatively simple change it would make time trial so much more engaging! In the mean time we are stuck with very minimal features :(

I’ve never played DriveClub but it sounds like GT needs to takes notes lol

It may have been marred by a bad start and the handling may have been further towards the arcade side of things, but it absolutely nailed the competitive aspect of hot lapping. One, you had global leaderboards per car and track, two, the ghost would update each lap to show the next fastest guy, three, you could set your friends challenges which expired after a set number of days, with a track and car combo of your choosing and a leaderboard and ghosts to track it. Amazing features!

I don't want any other time in my arcade trials except mine's , the only thing that i like to have is the ghost (by the saved and downloaded replay .... obviously)

It's only my opinion based of the alienation that i had in GT6 in the time trials due to the other player driving lines , i used to switch off the ghost because the amount of the other players lines were disturbing ...

Anyway the idea of a leaderboard is good but out of the arcade personal tiimes .. i repeat, it's only my opinion.

You would still have your local leaderboard and you wouldn’t ever have to look at your friends times or Top10 times if you didn’t want to see it. Definitely not asking for them to merge the two together... that would be pretty lame.

PC2 has private testing and a separate global/friends Time Trials. It works really well. That's the way to go

It honestly makes no sense that something like this hasn’t been implemented into GTS... 6 months into the game none the less. The only reason I can think of that they’re waiting this long would be finding all the glitches and bugs for fake times and eliminating them before throwing up leaderboards.

Maybe this month...

It’s really hard not to hope each and every update, but the let down sucks each time for sure. I’d even be satisfied for the time being if they gave us each track + each layout (aside from reverse) in Circuit Experience. I really want to battle my friends on Infield-A.

I don't use Arcade Mode Time Trial very much, but I do like having multiple times for the same car. Yeah, it's a pain to have to delete manually, but I think it's worth it. It's nice to see how my skills have progressed over time using the same car. Also can help to see how updates (BoP, physics, etc.) change performance. So maybe a better solution is give option to save/delete or just allow for a much longer list of times.

That's for private testing which is fine as is. A separate Time Trial challenge for all tracks is needed, with a friends/global leaderboard.

OP made two suggestions regarding Arcade Changes, I quoted and was responding to the second point.

I don't see them doing global or even Friend Only time trial leaderboards. PD don't want people spending too much time lapping by themselves in time trial trying to move up a leaderboard, they want us all in Sport Mode races so the matchmaking is more effective. It's the same reason why they only show the Top 10 in game, it's basically just to be used as a guide to what the top guys are doing and learn from them. They know if they did a proper leaderboard people would just stay in qualifying trying to move up the rankings instead of actually racing.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the campaign boards reset when the new tyre model comes in (might be next week, but I feel it might be 1 month too soon for it). That'll be a short-term fix for the glitched times at least.

I realize the name of the game is Sport but Sport Mode neglects the mass and is a game Mode aimed towards the best of the best... I know so many people that gave up on it already because they did 100+ races and never won 1. I win a little more than 50% of my races in Sport and I still don’t enjoy it very much. If they want people to dedicate their time to Sport Mode the wait times need to be almost non existent in opinion.

If you quit playing Sport Mode, the rest of us will win more. Problem solved!

Seriously though, it's a tough problem to solve. Every change seems to have a consequence. For example, people want more than 3 daily races, but that results in less players per race and matching suffers. We've all seen the Penalty System complaints where it's too harsh for some, too lenient for others, and not good at assigning blame for everyone. The whole thing with SR matching is a problem too. It's easier to get wins if your SR rating is lower, but that goes against good racing and sportsmanship. Like everything in racing, compromise is the key, but that will always upset someone.

Oddly enough, if more people played Sport Mode a lot of the problems could be solved. It would be possible to have more daily races with closer matching. Which means more chances to race with a car/track combination that suits each individual. Which could help distribute wins more evenly.

So maybe the answer is to somehow reward people for playing Sport Mode. The FIA championship is creating some excitement, so maybe PD will build on that. Didn't GT Academy give some cars/race suits/helmets for everyone that participated? Something like that could be a step in the right direction.

This 100%!

I would love to have an appropriate leaderboard for time trials. I really enjoy climbing the ladder and trying to shave off time.

I loved using the open wheel cars in Project Cars 1 and seeing how I stacked up against the rest of the world that cared to post a time.

Now I just look at the leaderboards for the Sport races and see what to aim for. I’m even to the point where I’m considering writing down or taking cell phone pictures of leaderboards each day so I can do time trials and have something to aim at. :indiff:

^^I think you’re absolutely right. The push to participate in Sport Mode is one of the reasons things are a bit “bare boned” I believe.

But, at the same time they are adding things so maybe there’s hope.

One thing I want to add to this conversation was what Kaz said in an interview basically saying that players weren’t “car-savvy” or something to that effect as an excuse for some modes/features being left out of the game.

He said:

“Twenty years ago, when we did the first Gran Turismo, people knew what happens when you change an air filter; people knew what increased compression ratios do to your car. But the new users don’t have that knowledge anymore because they’re not as interested in the cars, so we’ve simplified that area [of the game] so you can do the exact same thing you were doing in the past, but it’s more user-friendly for people just getting into cars.”

I don’t know about you all. But I’m a gearhead from way back. I own an Auto Body repair shop and live and breathe this stuff. One of my favorite things in life to do is drive on back roads and take driving trips. I would dare say this type of game is certainly a magnet for people like me and those who just have a love for automobiles and racing. If you have a love for that, knowledge about it simply comes with the territory because you’re interested. Games like these can even teach. They are literal gate ways to the automotive world. Careers, hobbies and overall love for this kinda thing. They talk a lot about Lewis Hamilton playing GT.

Why not make a game that is a gearheads dream? Cater to noobs to some degree, but teach them the automotive know how to a certain extent.

You have a game start up with classic film from racing, automotive greatness, facts and statistics about cars and even have a F1 Champion add content to the game but you don’t think players are “car-savvy?” Sacrilege!

No, because there will be more demolition derby races.
There will be more demolition derby races due to volume alone. But there will be more clean races due to volume also. The matching system will be better with more players. Dirty drivers won't be mixed in with clean drivers as much as it is now.

My guess is that a lot of clean drivers avoid Sport Mode because they had a bad experience early on. I'm also guessing that dirty drivers don't avoid Sport Mode due to a good experience. So there's probably more clean drivers sitting on the sidelines. That first month of Sport Mode was brutal. People might be pleasantly surprised if they gave it another chance.

You could say that about adding GT league events. Adding proper time trials would give more incentive to keep coming back to the game. After completing everything and doing a few hundred races in sports mode it gets a bit mundane. Time Trials keep the competitive side going.

I get all this for sure. I just have trouble believing that adding Time Trial Leaderboards would ruin Sport Mode... I push the Campaign Leaderboards pretty hard as it is already and it never takes away from Sport Mode... I still check Sport everyday. Having an outlet elsewhere in the game when the races aren’t to your liking or you’re just having a bad race day is pretty important in my opinion for keeping interest in the game. I find myself popping in a different game more and more when this is the case. GT Sport is by far my favorite game but I find myself bored more often than not when the Sport Races aren’t interesting to me that day.

I would love to give sport mode another chance, but without tuning up a car is a big No for me, and to make things worst is the penalty system that does not work.

GTS needs a variety of events in sport mode, there should be 3 daily races like we got now, 2 time trials event and 2 drift event held every 2 weeks.

If they added drifting events to Sport Mode, I would be the happiest person alive. I think we are more likely to get Leaderboards for Time Trials though. Competitive Drifting has been in competitors games for years and GT has always neglected it... I don’t see them changing their ways anytime soon or ever. I do hope I’m wrong though.

In GT6 I did not do any online Drifting events but I will give it a go for sure in GTS if they do come :). I really like GTS but with a lack of things to do in this game, I have been going back to GT6 because it has got a lot of world tracks than GTS, and with the update coming in a few days, it does make me coming back to play this game.
