I'm looking for a few brave, reckless fools to help out with the leaderboard :P Life has been busy for me lately (and Small_Fryz is now busy working hard for Team GTP), and I don't really have the time (or energy) to keep the leaderboard as up to date as it should be.

So for my benefit and yours, I'm looking for one or two people who:
- have been around the WRS for a little while, and who are active and committed,
- have a half-hour a day to spare,
- have a basic understanding of XML or HTML

The leaderboard isn't hard to update. I'll show you the ropes, and it'll take an hour or two to figure out. After that, it's just the grunt work of going though the week's thread and putting the times into a form on a web page. :)

OR

If there's someone out there in WRS land who'd like to take over entirely, and think they could out-leaderboard me (or wants to try :sly: ), I'd consider that, too.

If you're interested, please PM me, and I'll get back to you asap 👍

I would love to help, but I have no experience w/ xml or html or anything to do w/ web pages. I am a fast learner, but I don't know how difficult it would be to explain. Or if there was a way to send you the times already sorted so you could upload it easily, like an excel spreadsheet, I could do that for you.

OOOOOOOOHHHH bone of contention.

Sorry Luxy, i have no idea what to do, little internet access these days, and not much time with what im doing either.

Basically im useless.

Unless you need useless posts posting.

I can do those.

:grumpy:👍

i think i could managed the job IF i understdood how to work with HTML... well another useless post, but too bad beause i have at least 1 hour free at work everyday that i spend on GTPlanet... maybe jump_ace could help you, he has internet knowledge and he´s always here... maybe he comments something when he reads this thread...

anyway, i have the time, but not the skills... if you want, you could have a guy helping to find all t times and send to you... with that you just have to post on your page... i don´t know if that´s a solution...

its not even hard guys.

here i will post a section of it.

<week id="21" title="You call this a family cup???" car="Minolta Toyota 88C-V Race Car '89" track="High Speed Ring (Forward)" tuning="Full" thread="https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=69916">

<driver name="TheWizard" division="1" controller="9"><lap t1="33109" t2="26560" /></driver>
</week>

all I do is edit whats between the "" with the appropriate info. if i want a new driver i copy paste a driver

(notice the 2 "TheWizard's")

then change to say me?

<driver name="Small_Fryz" division="1" controller="1"><lap t1="33590" t2="26987" /></driver>
</week>

Then put it in alphabetical, so its easy to find drivers to update when their is many and add the post your upto.

volia.

Its very easy to learn.

Thanks for the responses, guys 👍 Kolyana responded to me via PM, and since she knows XML and has flexible hours, she's going to be helping out :D

Thanks Kolyana! :D

It's good to be back :)

This is a good way to keep me actively involved with the WRS, even if other things stop me actively driving every week.

As a footnote, I needed to take some time out, because I got the impression that I was addicted, so I went cold turkey so to speak :P I feel much more 'in control' now :D

Dr_Watson
what happend to that text parser idea?

I gave up on that for a couple of reasons. Firstly, there didn't seem to be a coherent desire for it. I had an idea for how I wanted to implement it, when I talked to Luxy in PM the idea remained the same basically. However, when another thread was made about it, there didn't seem to be a single idea that everyone seemed happy with, others wanted to totally do away with a leaderboard and just have a different thread.

Secondly, the way I had started writing the program led it to be inflexible when dealing with races of different configurations (e.g. I had intended to write several different verions of the code, dealing with 2 sector tracks, 3 sector tracks, multiple lap races) but this didn't seem to be very plausible.

Basically it fell apart for the reasons above; the fact that I didn't just code the program to a specification and distribute it to Luxy+Small_Fryz, the fact that the desires of the members weren't in agreement, and also the fact that at the time I was supposed to be studying for exams.

Anyway, I've not apologised to Luxy yet (I'd actually forgotten about it, to tell the truth), but I'd like to say I'm sorry now for saying I'd do it and not coming through.

I've included the source for what I've done with this post. It's very messy code, hardly commented at all. In the unlikely event of questions I'd be glad to answer them.

Thanks for helping Kolyana and it's nice to have you back around here! With your successful rehabilitation, maybe you should consider heading up a support group :lol:

I'm not the most knowledgeable on HTML, since I use MSFP for my own wacky website but I'd be willing to help out as much as I can if needed!
