Leaderboards one day?

This should be expanded, i was going to make the thread, but to prevent duplicates, i guess we should use this one.

Car leaderboards are the single aspect that made GT HD demo and GT5 Prologue have infinite replay value. Car leaderboards are what make you race different cars, there´s always something to get, something to chase and accomplish.

I remember spending hours and hours on GT5 Prologue on Daytona Road, trying all the cars in the game to achieve good rankings with each one of them.

I can´t understand why this has been taken out from the series. If nothing i expected more options, ability to filter by drivetrain, manufacturer, country, etc...

There are no excuses for this one, if there are too many variables you can do it on premium models only, or on select tracks, select models, tuning prohibited, there are a lot of ways to fix this in order to avoid having 10000000000 leaderboard tables and server issues.

Just get them in the game somehow. It´s mind-boggling that you had the Top Gear track in GT5 but you couldn´t do power laps and compare cars. The whole culture in tracks like Tsukoba and Nurburgring is to achieve great laps, and compare cars.

I could never understand why mediocre games like Dirt managed to have leaderboards in, but Gran Turismo, the ultimate hot lapping and driving game does not. Yes, i now there are seasonal events, but they are not enough. Leaderboards are even advertised on the game case for GT5, yet they are missing.

Just bring back the same system you had on GT5 Prologue and expand. I can´t believe it´s 2014 and we´re still doing bulletin board-replay sharing leaderboards and writting down times on a piece of paper due to the shortcomings of the game.

This can improve the game tremendously. Hot lapping and leaderboards are the whole foundation for GT Academy, so i don´t understand why can´t you guys see that this is such an important feature for the more hardcore players.

Says it's included on the back of the box. But is it?

Multiplayer = Yes
Leaderboards = No
Lobbies/Matchmaking = Lobbies = Yes / Matchmaking = If thats what you call One Makes, otherwise = No
Messaging/Friend Invite In Game = No
Voice Chat = Yes (terrible after about 8 in the lobby)
Custom Soundtrack = Yes
Add-On Content = Yes (at least thats what PD keeps telling us)
Trophies = Yes (is there any real value to these? Who really cares?)
Gameplay Recording & Upload = Recording = Yes, Upload = I have not figured it out yet. Would love to post to facebook or youtube.

+1 for Online time-trials and leaderboards for every car + track combination.

Being able to lap endlessly and compare leaderboard times with the world / friends is more important to me personally than being able to lobby / race directly with other users in real-time online.

You want about 100,000 leaderboards? Unlikely to happen.
100,000 leaderboards would be fine by me, I'll pick my favourite cars and tracks, you can pick yours and maybe somewhere along the way our interests may coalesce to battle for a fastest lap time. It would also be interesting to see the most active leaderboards highlighted in a top 10 "hottest leaderboards list".

The relatively modest number of concurrently available online seasonal events have tens of thousands of entrants and each seasonal holds little interest for me after I've beaten the target time for gold. I might think differently if I had a top 10 time to defend on a leaderboard with a car and track I particularly enjoy.

Opening up the leaderboards to all cars and all tracks would see various groups and clubs of people find their own little niche in the game and enable more people to enjoy the game in their own way. I'm all for that.

I have to agree it's all very unlikely though...

Yeah, that's a lot of info to store in a server, but, what about making those leaderboards just with the courtesy cars? at least this would calm down the hunger for those leaderboards.

It's really not a lot of info to store on a server by today's standards. Besides, data storage is cheap. So what if they have to store terabytes of information?

Let's put some numbers to it.

Say there's 3 million players of GT6.
Each one, on average, spends 40 hours playing leaderboards.
They try as many different ones as they can, spending only 5 minutes on each before going to another, never repeating.
Each player therefore, averages 480 unique entries in leaderboards.
Between all players, there are then 1.44x10*9 entries in leaderboards.

Say each entry requires 32kB of storage for all the data.
That's 4.61x10*10kB of storage required, or ~46TB unless my math has failed me horribly (pretty likely, unfortunately).

46TB doesn't strike me as a whole lot of storage for a company with budgets in the tens of millions, and that's with me sticking what I'm fairly sure are ludicrous numbers into the calculation. It would almost certainly be less in reality. 20-30TB? I have nearly 10TB of hard drives sitting on my desk at home.
