Lewis Black on President Bush

Often called "America's foremost critic on everything," Lewis Black has this to say about good ol' Dubbya:

"These are dark days for President Bush: the State of the Union controversy won't go away, Iraq is getting more and more expensive and more and more deadly, and he has the worst record of job creation since Herbert Hoover. So it's no wonder that Bush's approval has plummeted all the way down to...59%. 59%?! Who's judging this guy, Paula Abdul?

Now, for a glimpse at what could be happening to Bush, look at our ally across the pond. British Prime Minister Tony Blair is wrapped up in the same Iraqi intelligence scandal, and it's kicking his ass. In his own country, Blair's popularity is only 37%. That ranks him somewhere between a Bond villain and the crazy guy who stabbed George Harrison.

So why the difference? Because Bush knows better than to hang around places like the British House of Commons, where people can disagree with you. Out loud. IN PUBLIC!"

-Lewis Black, "Back In Black" segment, The Daily Show

Thoughts, anyone?

Surely 59% and 37% approval ratings for Bush and Blair respectively are actually rises, considering Bush was voted for by 49.8% of the population and Blair by 23%?

Couldn't you have tacked this on to one of the many "Bush is bad" threads?
I thought we might have a good laugh instead of trying to rip each other's throats out over a man none of us has met, like we usually do.

I count FOUR threads full of bellyaching about Bush and America on the first page of this forum alone. And you felt the need to start yet another one?

Bush is unpopular with many Americans. What else don't we know.

On a side note, Lewis Black is hillarious. I love his segment on the Daily Show.

Excuse me, I asked for your thoughts on the issue, not on what you think of me starting the thread. And perhaps those four threads about Bush are supposed to be telling people something...

I am not posting as a participant, so my thoughts on the issue are largely irrelevant, besides which they've already been aired out in other posts. My thoughts on this subject as a mod, is that there is already a thread about George Bush with an active discussion and there is little need for another one. It even has his name in the title line and everything so you can't miss it.

And that these four threads exist tell me nothing I didn't already know.

I think the lack of repercussion is a result of the current political yelling match. In my opinion this is the republican strategy right now deny, deny, deny and odds are he gets re-elected. The facts get very clouded but based soley on intuition I mistrust the Bush squad. Other people may think differently.

Bush has not been a public president. Most people critisize him as lazy for this. Personally i think it's a calculated move. People misunderestimate the man and thats what he wants.

Sometimes when Bush speaks his mannerisms set off a "BS alarm" in my head. The lean back and smirk when facing controversy. The lean forward with the slow hammering delivery as when he says "... and America is safer". Its the same delivery as when Clinton said "I did not have...". Anyway, I'd be interested in how someone who respects the guy interprets his demeanor.

"Back in Black" is second to "This Week in God" as my favorite Daily Show segement.

When John Kerry says "I voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it", it sets of BS alarms in my head.

Please don't be condescending towards me. I am not a child.

Then don't act as if I'm being unreasonable when I ask you to follow simple rules. Please use your head before you post; if a topic already exists, don't create another. This is a particular problem in Opinions, where the same arguments get re-hashed again and again.

I kind of wanted to talk about Lewis Black as well. And I don't think a conversation about him necessarily belongs in the Comedy Corner or the Movies & TV section because he is a political comic and has a lot to say about the government and the election.

Hah hah hah, that's one of the funniest parts of the show, I always watch hoping it will come on but it rarely does. I love the sound the machine makes when he smacks the button; it's just a guy's voice going, "Bee boo boo bee boo bee boo..."

Yes, Kerry can sling some BS around too. I was asking about... ahh never mind. :indiff:

Bush is challenged when it comes to public speaking. He is definitely the exact opposite of Kerry, who has a forked, silver tongue. In fact, as a Bush supporter, the upcoming debates concern me. But then I think about the used car salesman technique of Kerry and believe Americans are smart enough to know who is talking to them instead of over them.

All politicians set of BS alarms in my head. Every single one. But Bush sets off less than most for me. I don't feel like he is lying to me when he speaks. Conversely, I feel thoroughly deceived and condescended to every time I hear Kerry or any Democrat involved with his campaign (*cough* Dan Rather *cough*) speak. It's insulting. Even his bloated, pompous speaking style belies his utter lack of core.

So is intelligence something that you hold against a person? It makes sense to me to have the smartest and most qualified person in charge.

If you are perceptive enough to know you are getting the sales pitch you might as well have a salesman who knows his cars, right?

Me too. It's not Kerry.

Right. Again, it's not Kerry. In fact, nothng worse could happen to America than Kerry being elected. He is an enemy of America.
