Well, it's been close to a week since my PS3 took a s#ite.
Seems the Blue Ray reader is dead. Called PS and it's $178 to repair mine, which is a backwards compatible unit.
I've been able to catch up on a few hours of DVR recorded programs,
and actually get some work done in the shop.
My plan is to buy a used unit of e-bay.
Best Buy Store has some smoking deals, if you are patient.
Once I get a unit, I will send mine in for repair and sell it since I have
a working PS2, and don't play those games online.

Gutted mate this happened to my 60gig in november ended up just buying a slimline with loads of extended warranty.

I feel your pain.

I'm just about to send mine back to sony for repairs for the third time in two months. They have been warned that if it breaks again after we get it back we're going to the consumer protection agency, as they refuse to replace it.

Well, the Best Buy deal is not working out.
All units are "Used".
I've bought a few things from them, always great deals.
But there are about 20 auctions going on right now.
They start at $20, and by the time there is 2 hrs left, they are at $202.
That's about what they all go for, some up to $230.
Then you pay tax.
So I bought one from Hicks Media.
Bought a brand new slim for $239 plus $17 shipping.

Hey guys i had the dreaded blinking red light on my ps 3 and looked online for some kind of repair, sony was trying to get 170 dollars out of me and i said no way but i found this website called gophermods.com and they fixed it for 69.99 got it back in like a week and have been using it ever since, i think u should try it out worked for me. just a thought anyway

A little update: This has turned into quite the cluster fack.
Ordered the PS3 last Friday, early enough in the day it to be processed
and shipped.I tried calling them before I placed the order, only got voicemail.
The order never updated over the weekend.
I sent an e-mail on Monday, asking why it had not shipped.
Tuesday, I get a response, informing me their CC processing company was holding my funds, and I'm supposed to call them to find out why.
I call, they tell me Hicks has to call. I e-mail him that, to which he replies;
He's been trying to call them all day, and get get anywhere.
Wednesday was the last time we had correspondence.
Don't like doing it, but I've filed a complaint with my bank{Paypal Card}
trying to get my funds back.

It's been a month since I last played :nervous:
Hicks Media has since taken their website down.
Paypal refunded my money 👍
Called Gopher Mods, about repair.
Flat rate $109. Only problem, was they were having a parts supply problem.
So I waited a few days, made payment, and shipped my PS3.
They received it last Thursday, did the repair, and shipped it yesterday.
I'm supposed to have it this Thursday.
Before it broke, I had close to 60 hours of recorded shows on my DVR,
due to my NFS addiction
As of this morning, it's down to 15.

What a tough run you've had with this. It's not right mate not right at all.

I can't even think of how frustrated players could be if they ps3 crash and burn just before GT5 premiere.

:)
Instructions from Goper Mods advise not to play for more than 2 hours
before shutting off, and letting her cool down :nervous:
Sure glad I took out that extended warranty
