If one thing that F5 and GT6 share, it is these lifeless cockpit! When you look at Gamescon videos, it's like people drives a bus or in a very comfy Rolls Royce... problem is: You drive an insane horse powered beast on its limits but without practically any feeling to do so... no head movements, no vibrations, no shaking... It's just like a nice 2D old tech very detailed cockpit... just for the appearance...

Come on Kaz, get us at least some optional "Live cockpit" settings... Not outrageous ones, but at least SOME!

If it's an option then I don't mind, although I personally don't care for it and would never use it. Cockpits are just as lifeless in real life when you're watching an onboard camera. Sure, with a human it's a bit different but you can't replicate what a human can see on a TV screen. Our vision is so comprehensive and not focused on one area that bounces, heavy braking and so on don't really effect our viewpoint. By trying to replicate that in 2D space on a TV screen it just creates way too much movement that you can't even see properly and it becomes too distracting.

Personally, I didn't like NFS Shift's version of this but like I said, if PD wants to include it as an option, I'm ok with it. As long as the standard cockpit view stays. But anyway, that said, I don't think it's something PD would do. 100% not in GT6, we'll see for GT7 though.

I wasn't thinking of NFS Shift and the stupid look to apex, but watch some footage of Raceroom Racing Experience Beta, it have some of the best live cockpit immersion: not too extreme but which really gives you the feeling that you really try to "tame a bronco" and not cruising at 60 kph on the populated riviera in your brand new Ferrari...

Yup, GT and FM both really lack that realistic, soft head movement.
The sound is also an issue and kinda dampens the immersion.

Gt5 used to have cockpit shake that was even more intense under braking and people complained until it was removed.

"Live" cameras have been previously included, but taken out due to motion sickness (?) complaints. Not only for cockpit view, but the short lived dynamic chase camera.

This. And because people complained, PD will "learn" from their mistakes and probably won't include it in GT6. But it seems that slowly, more people are wanting the feature back into the game...

When I was playing Shift 2 with this live camera, I couldn't really calculate the distance of a curve I was going to... So I was only using the normal cockpit view.

People will want it until it's added then people will hate then it will be removed.

The shaking was too harsh and unrealistic.
If your head bounces a bit, your eyes still stay in one level, while in GT5, it looked like a seizure is coming up. All of the bigger PC sims feature soft and adjustable head shaking and I would love to see this in Gran Turismo.

it's why I ask for AN OPTION (with maybe a slider for more or less "live" cockpit)... like that everybody's happy. It's a bit harsh to just remove a feature when a lot of people liked too... I got GT5 just after they remove the feature, I was very disappointed at the time...

The race room video shows what GT5's shaking feature failed to do. Except for very heavy braking or hitting high curbs, the drivers viewpoint stays roughly level and smooth (compared with the track), while the car bounces and shakes around the driver.
In GT5 it was more like a camera was bolted straight to the car, causing the track to shake about rather than the car.

IMO, the original NFS: Shift got the cockpit immersion just right (one of my favourite games). Shift 2: Unleashed went a bit overboard with the immersion.

Yup, I'm one of the people who liked the old camera and the more recent but removed chase camera. I don't understand some of the people here, they want a more inmersive and realistic experience yet they complain about every little thing that makes them 0.0000001 of a second slower. I wouldn't be surprised if someone complained about the sun in GT6 being brighter and more distracting than GT5's one therefore harmful to your precious lap times.

I prefer the way it is and don't like cameras that move a lot. It would be distracting to me. In Forza the cameras move more but you can turn these effects off :). One of the first things I did in FM4 and Horizon :sly:.

That Raceroom footage is too bouncy for me, but I agree with options and that GT's cockpit is a bit lifeless... although I prefer it.

The Raceroom footage is perfect in my opinion. When pd removed the gt5 option I was also disappointed. Just give it us as an option as stated above with a slider.

What some people here might need to realise is that GTPlanet is not one collective consciousness. We're all individuals (I'm not). People have different opinions and preferences. That is why options are better and keep everyone happy.

I think that both the Raceroom and Pcars versions of this look ridiculous. The forward inertia just looks like a short digital zoom. Implemented well, there's a lot of potential. But implemented poorly, like in those examples, it actually inhibits the suspension of disbelief.

I'd love to know if it could be done informatively enough to actually improve a driver's performance, while also adding immersion. Occulus Rift may well present unique opportunities to combine headtracking (deliberate movement), and a perception of forced movement.

I said it once, and I would say it again, there was movement in the cockpit in GT5, and then PD removed it...
And don't know why, it was aweeeeesome....

Project CARS - Helmet Cam ....enough said

That looks rubbish imo, mainly because of the lame blur effect like in NFS Shift. When you want to check your revs/speed etc & the game has decided to blur it, that's just so stupid & annoying.

GT couldn't do realistic in car shake unless they also did realistic laser scanned bump maps of the track surface with which to shake the car. Turn 10 are laser scanning tracks for Forza 5, PD needs to up their game in this area or get left behind for dead.

The Problem in GT was, the head and eyes were shaking which is wrong. The view got to be stiff but the dashboard bounces around the view, as in the videos above, thats realistic. Because your eyes stay focused on the road but your body and head is moving in the car.

Would love to see it in GT.

As a Project CARS full member i can tell you its absolutley brilliant, add Occulus rift to the helmet Cam equation and you have reached sim nirvana imo.

I believe you & I'm sure the game as a whole is great, but that blurring effect would spoil it for me, would be nice if it was optional.
