Is there any way to incorporate some kind of 'LIKE' (and maybe a 'DISLIKE') button, or something similar to individual posts?? Like something as simple as a thumbs up, or down.. a "+" or "-" symbol next to a post, so that you can simply AGREE or DISAGREE with an individuals post/comment/etc?

Some who are lazy just like myself (ROFL), who want to agree with a post or what not, and want to PUBLICLY, but are too lazy to type even a sentence sometimes, but just want to positively 'bump' a post... I think this would be a great idea, because it would give others incentive for creative posting/threads/topics/comments.... That are, OF COURSE, USEFUL ones.. Not just some ignorant post about ones belly button fuzz, but something that would actually help contribute more creativity/buzz around some of these discussions on here! I think it'd be great and a lot of other users would agree with the above statement(s) lol :)

So what do ya say fellas? :)

Pretty please? Lol:tup:

We had a rep system(before my time, but still), it got abused than taken away. I'm guessing the same thing would happen with the "like" system.

Well there would be no 'merit' involved.. I've been a mod on a few other forums in the past, and I agree that the whole 'rep' system gets abused, and very easily I must say! LMAO.

This would be a simple, anonymous 'Like' button, in fact, there should be no DISlike button, because I could see how THAT could get carried away.. However, I DO believe that a simple 'Like' button, with just a tally of how many 'Likes' the specific post received... Ie; '2 Likes' or '99 Likes'.. That simple. No abuse could come from that.

:)

Unfortunately, the current forum software provides no simple "Like" post feature - only a more complex "reputation" feature (which, as Justin mentioned, was removed several years ago due to heavy abuse). If our future forum software includes something that is simpler and more elegant, I will consider enabling it.

That would be fantastic guys :) Thanks for your prompt responses and openness to the gesture/idea.

I look forward to being a more involved member of the GTPlanet community. Thanks again for such a great site, it's phenomenal!

Respectfully,

In the meantime, if you really like what someone has to say, then why not just quote them in the thread, copy and paste post into their visitor message page and let them know what you think there?

Yeah yeah, I knooooow :yuck:

Not a problem, been doing that thus far, just wanted to see if I could kick in lazy-mode 👍

Thanks again fellas :)

Have to admit, the Like system is available ONLY as hack, and you (Jordan) decide to avoid it:

A "thanks" or post "liking" feature (unlike the reputation functionality we used to have) would be great, but as tankuroded mentioned, I avoid vBulletin hacks and plugins unless they're absolutely required or if I wrote them myself.

As you noted, poorly written plugins can have significant affects on site performance and can make troubleshooting problems or software upgrades troublesome and complex.

:lol::lol::lol: now THAT was hilarious... See, priiiiime example that even some of the simplest features, such as quote tags, can easily be misused! :D ;)

👍 tankuroded!! Hahaha, well put! :) jk

May I ask, in what manner was the rep system abused? I would imagine it had to be really bad in order for it to be taken away.

Need I say more?

From what I've read it got to a point where people were just "repping" people for the sake of doing it. I guess misused would be a better word for it.

A small group of users was misusing the Comments section of the rep system as a chat method, and they were also logrolling each other (and attacking others with negative rep) to an absurd degree.

I don't think that a like system would be of much worth. What use would it really have?
