Limited technique with a DFP?

I'm curious with this. As a new drifter, and my lack of having a clutch with the Driving Force Pro, am I limited to only certain types of drift techniques?

Currently, I've been sticking to the Feint, but I find I can only do a few types of corners with it. I've experimented with a few others, but would upgrading to a wheel that has a clutch give me a broader spectrum of techniques?

I'm able to afford a G25/G27, but I've never felt the need to upgrade... until now.

Any other drifters out there who use a DFP or DFGT that have no problems drifting?

Your input will be appreciated. 👍

The only thing you won't be able to do is clutch kick, don't let it hold you back. I use a DFGT and get along just fine :) Even when I drift on LFS and have a second wheel set up to use another set of pedals for a clutch, I don't find myself kicking all that often.

Learn to drift without being able to kick, and once you do get a wheel that has the clutch it'll just be like a nice convenience :P It's not necessary by any means, some people like to kick to initiate but you don't have to. What it can do is help you recover from understeer halfway around a corner (like the first corner of autumn ring mini).

You can sort of clutch kick by tapping your side brake while you're on the throttle. It disengages the clutch when you side brake on a RWD vehicle because otherwise the engine would stall.

dfgt is okay, i'm wiring up a handbrake though, that'd be pretty convenient. i heard clutch kicks aren't that great anyway in gt5, i've only tried it in prologue and it was... alright. plus with the physics of the game, if you full throttle your wheels usually use traction anyway. i'm in the re amemiya car though. and plus, i don't think a clutch is worth the extra $200 i'd have to spend on top of the dfgt i bought for $100 on amazon.

and for the record dfp and dfgt have different motors, dfp countersteers really slow. REALLY slow. dfgt is better, but not as good as a g25.

I doubt there is no limit in controllers ( said about pad fighters towards arcade stick users before) Its only the person.

Not the wheel, the driver 👍

I confirm that clutch sucks, drifting wise, in GT5.
When you clutch kick it'll do the exact opposite thing it's supposed to do (rpm drop and loss of drift).
The only moment when the clutch kick works ok (not even fine) is on long straights to initiate at hi speeds.

I only use the clutch for racing but never for drifting (I spent thefirst few days trying to drift with the clutch but it's just not working like it should)

I have reached my limits with the dfp and am ready for something else. g-series wheel was next, but if the clutch doesn't function properly...I only need a clutch for turns where there is a linkable straight after a hair pin (I hate downshifting).

I have the DFP, and I don't use it anymore. Like Luckinator said, it's just too slow.

But when I did use it, I used the analog stick on a DS3 for ebrake. I just set all directions to ebrake, and left it right next to the shifter. It's not the greatest setup, but it beats trying to push a button on a spinning steering wheel. :)

my bad bunta.

No need to be rude, just because you think something doesn't mean everyone thinks like you, I happen to enjoy the DFP, and no it doesn't counter steer too slow. How exactly does a wheel countersteer itself..?

The driver, not the wheel.👍

Charley there is an inbuilt setting in the DFP for FFB aswell that lots of people don't know about. Like changing it from 180 to 900 degrees, try pressing Select, R3 and Left paddle at the same time. Two flashes means it's on the hardest setting, one is the lighter which I use.

Oh sorry, I thought you were being one of those douchebags that blames everything on "the driver," saying they're not skilled enough. But you're not one of those, right?

but yeah, dfp counters slow.

this is how a wheel counters itself.

I remember trying that before... wasn't sure if it was recently tho, or even on GT5.

I'll try this tonight and let you know how it handles.

Thanks

Thank you very much for posting that vid with the wheel movements! This was very helpfull for me! Now its just practice practice and more practice!

Cool video, but I can find just as many others of DFP drifters doing just fine like myself, tuning and choice of car may be where it's going wrong for anyone using this wheel.

Just to mention in the top video, neither wheel is using acceleration, in a real car they would not 'counter' full stop unless under force, which the DFP does so that really makes no difference and once again although rather sloppy drifting that bottom video shows the driver on one wheel, i'm sure once anyone got used to it they could use either wheel just fine.
