Attention all A-spec hunters!

I've discovered that lineups for at least some races can vary by color of car.

For instance, at the 1000 Miles!, I've tested all four colors of Nissan Skyline BLRA-3, and for the the first 3 starting grids after a console reset the lineups will be the same. However, at the 4th lineup the silver, blue and white BLRA-3's will get a different lineup than the green one. Variation continues on from there.

For Lotus Elans, the yellow and red ones receive different lineups (starting at #4) than do the white and silver.

In the Nurburgring 4hr enduro, car color will make a difference starting at lineup #3. I tested this with various colors of Mazda RX-8 Type E.

I do not know how many events in GT4 are affected by this phenomenon, but it can clearly be useful in quickly going to the best lineup once you have done some exploring.

Respectfully yours,
Dotini

Fantastic work yet again Dotini. I reckon you could write a thesis on GT4 lineups; I'd certainly read it.

This colour-changing phenomenon probably accounts for some of the unexplained lineup variation, and for other variations that were previously blamed on the PAL/NTSC difference.

I wonder how this might interact with your other great discovery, the effect of previews on a lineup.

Thanks for those kind word, PF. Really, I'm embarrassed, because it's such a simple observation, and it doesn't solve the energy crisis or anything.

Hopefully, in the best case, I'd like to see folks find easier solutions to some of the perennial riddles of GT4 like the 1000 Miles! and the Hyundai events using this color key. But right now it's unknown how much power this tool really has.

I have yet to investigate how this interacts with Preview. The mind boggles. I must rest now...:D

Yours truly,

Dotini,

Here is something I think you will find interesting, it isn't about lineups by color but the car used in one race affecting the lineup available for the next race.

Please excuse my computer ignorance, I don't know how to link to a post. I'll try this way instead.

"I had to restart my NTSC game a few weeks ago, came to this event again and could not not find this lineup....grr, however I now have found it again. It is fairly easy to get this lineup, and I believe it is the easiest lineup for this tournament, so here is how I got it:

1) Get in a '54 Chevrolet Convertible, reset the PS2
2) Use the chevvy and enter the 3rd race of the spider & roadster trophy, win it and exit
3) Hop in your Skyline, make sure it has all the mods you need before you do as I don't know whether buying them at this stage will affect the lineup, go straight to the tournament and the perfect lineup should be sitting right there.

Have not tested this on the PAL version but will do when I get the chance. Note I had different lineup results when using a car other than the chevvy so without a doubt the chevvy is the car needed."

This post is from nemesis01, post #154 in the 200pt A-Spec Races

Awesome work. As much as I reset grids (a LOT) I've never paid attention to what colors show up...I'm usually after which grid allows the greatest, fairest adrenaline-pumping experience. :D

i think i understand this right, the line-up you face can depend on the color of the car that you entered with. If you enter the '1000 miles with a yellow Elan you will get line-up "A" and if you entered the same race with a red Elan (same HP and such..) you would likely get line-up "B" ? Is this what you are saying?

Exactly correct

I have found this situation that Dotini:tup:👍 mentions in the Nurburgring 4 hour race every time, now that I've started to look for it. My favorite lineup is easily reached if I'm in a red car (its the second lineup), but if I'm in another color car, lineup # 2 is completely different. I have recently purchased at least 10 new red cars to get this lineup:crazy:

This would also explain our past confusion of why some people would get a specific lineup at say # 20, while someone else would not see the same lineup at # 20. We were not always making sure that our car color was the same, we were just making sure our car was the same.

I have started to list the color of my car when I run a race, because it is making a difference if someone else wants to find the same lineup.

Respectfully,
GTsail

How very interesting and how very annoying of PD to have thrown this variability in instead of allowing us to select the grid of cars we want to race against.

Any bets on whether they'll add that useful feature in GT5 ... whenever it appears?

Edit - NM, i'll post what I found after I have a chance to compile the list properly tomorrow.

@ Too Old - to link directly to a single post look in the top right hand corner of every post, there is a numbered link, just right click on that and copy location and paste in your post. Regarding that post I made, thinking about it now it could have had nothing to do with the corvette but more of the color skyline I was using, didn't occur to me at the time.

I'd just love to race against cars I've tuned myself. That was the only good thing in Juiced 2 that wasn't related to vandalising modifying as many cars as possible.
