LiteStep FAQ

Well, I'll get things rolling.

How do you change font sizes, colors, and types?

EDIT: I just figured out how. So I'll help ya'lls out. :D

Editing Fonts & Such

Well, you'll need to go to your themes folder.
Open up whatever theme you are working on and check out the config file.
There should be a file named "popup".
Open that sucker up.

If you search through it, you'll find out some neat stuff about how things appear. Like "popupfontsize" and such. Just change the values inside the quotes and you'll be set. Heck I even changed the colors to better suit my tastes on the soul~ skin. Enjoi!

I'm sorry if I'm not as smart as needed be, Shannon, but by resources, what do you refer to?

Oh yeah, and if need be, you can always switch back to the windows shell, explorer.exe. It's on the desktop as an icon. :D

If you are referring to Harddrive space, my entire LiteStep file takes up 133 mb's and that includes 63 fully functional skins.

As for running space it takes, without anything running outside of the basic screen setup, 11,000 k of mem usage. Right now, I am running a dl-program, winamp, and iexplorer and it's using 16,000 k of ram.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I meant mem usage. 11k, hmm...

It actually, suprisingly, uses less resources than explorer.exe. I'd only recommend it for before XP computers or XP computers that are very slow. It's great, though. I didn't keep it for long because it was like 4 in the morning and I was getting frustrated.

I still run it and have no complaints, because it's easier to fix when a problem arrives. If you're shell is just bothering you, you can:

1. Ctrl + Alt + Del
2. File>Run>Browse
3. Go to the LiteStep folder
4. Switch to default skin
5. Repeat, and it will reboot without restarting your computer.

I had to do this a bunch of times when testing skins.

I know about that, found it out when skins were giving me errors. That's not why I stopped using it, I just couldn't figure out how to configure it like I wanted.

Bah.

www.astonshell.com

Even better than LiteStep. In my opinion.. It has all the same skinning features plus tons and tons more.

Right now its using 14mb and i'm running alot of programs. When i first boot, it's usually 10mb or less.

It's ok as a program, but I found easier ways to fix problems with LiteStep. AstonShell is for the user who doesn't want to do much with coding to fix their problems, which is cool, but limiting.

That and you have to pay for it, not much for paying.

What did you want to fix, I might know how.

question - i'm using Glaze 1.3 - how would I go about changing the colors and positions of the desktop icon fonts?

one more - where would I go about finding good OTS2 skins? Wincustomize doesn't have many and the few i got off of DeviantArt didnt work at all for some compatibility issues

I can't get over how frequently I see threads that appear to be "This is how you do X" but when I open the thread it's simply a request. Maybe we need to have a workshop on how to properly name threads.

Well, generally "FAQ" means "I'm going to provide a bunch of Answers to questions", not "I'm going to ask questions".

Maybe I'm just looking at it the wrong way.

To LoudMusic,
Umm, I didn't look at it that way, because I really couldn't know what kind of questions are asked frequently, therefore this thread is for the users who don't know what's going on with their LiteStep.

I know that I had a question about it, but I answered it myself, therefore I'm in no need of help, but an willing to help all who need it.

Maybe i shall try this out. What kind of coding does the shell support, and how do you use it?

:D

Basically, the coding is a simple as opening the famous Notepad and editing your theme.rc or other such files. It's simple to use, and once you get a grasp on what is needed to fix problems, it is even easier to setup new skins. I highly recommend giving it a shot. Heck, like I said before, you can always switch back to the explorer.exe shell, because it's on the desktop as an option.
