EAS in serious RWD mode
Races are in the GT on South City Classic! A nice little course where the mastery of one very annoying chichane can make or break you. Fast and furious, (and that's with a non turbo), the big boy's are at it again with some new faces in Grid one.
The last race in the EAS series, (race 3), was in the LX. I wasn't able to make a report because my Sister was in town and I had 2 more nephews to deal with. The race was a good one however. On Fern Bay Black we saw great duels with Norbi, Pallukka, and MacEST and even Nils got into the mix at a point. I recommend checking it out. Nils dominated the sprint but MacEST never got too far behind, and one seriously nasty crash on the Green chichane cost Nils the lead in the main. It was a great race and it put Norbi and Mac in a solid 2nd and 3rd overall.
To the Sprint!
This 15 lap race starts out:
1. Nils
2. Norbi
3. Pallukka
4. MacEST
5. Shordy
6. Shark
7. Busta
8. Asmo
9. Humito
10. Vykos
The beggining of the Classic circuit is unique in that there is no sharp haipin right after the start. You have a nice long sweeper first that lends itself to drafting right from the green light. Norbi does this to get the lead from Nils straight away. I like this because the beginning of the race is sometimes the only chance you have to catch a serious hotlapper. Pallukka and MacEST drop in behind them and the race is on.
Nils gets by Norbi on the last sweeper of lap 3 but Norbi is hot on his tail. Mac is chasing Pallukka fine, (a little choppy), but gets T-boned by Shordy on T2 who got a little to hot coming in to that turn. Shordy tells me he lost his audio and we all know that no sound means you lose period. Tough break for the guy that used to beat Nils repeatedly in the FXO Busta immediately swoops past Mac.
MacEST should now have little problem catching Busta as his times are generally better, but he seems to be driving his car really hard, throwing himself into the corners and such and isn't smooth early on. By lap 5 Nils is still only slightly ahead of Norbi, as Norbi knows that if he loses him he'll really take off on a hotlap binge. Pallukka consistently smacks the inside wall of the turn one sweeper and must be getting a headache by now, he loses little ground overall though. Mac is chasing Busta, Shark is alone for the moment, Asmo is being chased by Vykos, Humito is doing his own thing and the deaf and dumb Shordy is dropping away into last place land.
MacEST eventually does catch Busta and passes at T2 on the 8th. Heck, even driving choppy the kid is fast. Vykos makes a chichane error to let Humito by, Shordy does pass Vykos for all of 2 seconds, then blows the chichane bad enough to buy a permanent last place. He's also honking his horn repeatedly as if that'll make his cordless headphones wake up. :\
On the 11th Asmo does the chichane blow to drop behind Vykos and the Nils, Norbi and Pallukka trio have moved a good distance ahead of the field. MacEst still has Busta on his tail and Shark pulls some decent times to catch them. Vykos tries for Humito but never gets his GTT groove going, and the race ends this way:
1. Nils :58.57
2. Norbi :58.75
3. Pallukka :58.72
4. MacEST :58.85
5. Busta :58.96
6. Shark :58.85
7. Humito :58.94
8. Vykos :59.07
9. Asmo :59.43
10. Shordy :59.37
To the Main!
This 30 lap race starts with the reverse order of the sprint finish. It's brutal.
I wanna step aside here and get something off my chest first. There is a continuum of LFS that stretches between hotlapper and grinder. Hotlappers are fast, grinders can race. Right now in the EAS, the hotlaping attitude is dominating and the grinding is getting tapped out of the races. The smart guys who set up this series wanted to temper the hotlapping by setting up a decent penalty system. If a hotapper can't legally pass another racer, then he's not the better racer period. Right? Well this system would work nicely if only the grinders would PROTEST and get some penalties handed out. So far there hasn't been one racing penalty in the series and I've seen ALOT of illegal passes.
I know you guys want to be nice and all, and some of you feel that the hotlapper would have eventually passed you anyway, and some of you are playing team politics, but you gotta stop. The penalties are there for a darn good reason and you should use them. If a hotlapper has to knock you aside to get by, then gains 2 seconds ahead of you, he deserves to lose that 2 seconds in a penalty.
Ahem, ok back to the main.
The first lap is mass confusion. Norbi illegally taps out Pallukka and sends him to last place, but Vykos blows the chichane all by himself to turn everything on it's head. It may have been lag, because Shordy disconnects right at the same time. After the dust settles, Asmo is out front with shark behind him, Norbi MacEst and Pallukka are running very hot behind them. Busta, Humito, Vykos and Nilyn are a few seconds back and Humito taps a brake hard to miss Busta and causes a slight mess on the next turn 2.
By the 4th, Norbi makes a decent pass on Shark and sets after Asmo. Palukka and Mac are haveing a decent battle and getting a little bit behind, but there's definately a tailwind blowing because the laptimes are really fast and those two can catch up. By the 5th, Nils is working on Vykos and seems like he's trying to be careful but he eventually loses patience and just knocks him out on the last sweeper.
The beggining of the 6th, Asmo messes up and lets Norbi and shark by. He now has Palukka behind and MacEst eager to go. By the 8th, Norbi is getting a decent lead and Shark, Asmo, Pallukka and MacEst are all in a bundle. Humito disconnects, (grrrrr), and the rest of the field are all spread out by huge intervals.
Now, in order for this race to continue one thing has to happen. Pallukka has to pass Asmo before Norbi gets too far ahead AND before Nils catches up. Pallukka is faster than Asmo and Shark who is ahead of Asmo. So is MacEst who's behing Pallukka. Problem is, Asmo is a serious grinder. Pallukka tries the usual tricks to try to get him to mess up like showing him a front wheel, criss-crossing before a turn. Basically makeing the moves that would cause a noobies toes to curl and eventaully lose it. Pallukka! Little words of advice from a pro observer here: Asmo LOVES that stuff! I'm serious, I think he actually gets BETTER when someone tries to harass him. Too many times have I seen Asmo in the thick of a battle only to come out smelling like a rose.
Pallukka finally does pass Asmo on the 18th, and that was due to a squirrely chichane exit by Asmo. So basicaly it took 12 LAPS for Pallukka to pass! This, I'm sure, spurned a team meeting where Vykos, (the pass master of LFS), went over some passing strategy that involved knocking some heads againts their respective Momo's. Nils has even caught MacEst by now and on the 20th Norbi is loooooong gone.
MacEst has a little trouble passing Asmo too, but he then does a VERY pretty outside/inside pass on T2 of the 22nd lap to gain 4th, the kid has quick hands. Nils passes Asmo on the 25th and has a neat mini fight with MacEst at the end, but Mac holds him off and the race ends like this:
1. Norbi 0:58.11
2. shark 0:58.35
3. Pallukka 0:58.38
4. MacEST 0:58.37
5. Nils 0:58.27
6. AsmO 0:58.65
7. Busta 0:58.72
8. Vykos 0:58.78
Check all the results here and enjoy. next race is Blackwood reversed in the MRT. Mac is gonna shine in my prediction
