Anybody else try the livery editor yet? How well is it working out for you?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to change the color of primatives, and I don't see any letters/numbers. Am I missing something?

Is it possible to share liveries?
(Sorry for hijacking your thread, just seemed like the appropriate place to ask this)

I made the thread broad enough that I think it's impossible to hijack it.

But I don't think it's possible to share them (at least not from what I've seen). The same goes for cars and tune info. Have to save something for Shift 3, I suppose.

Xbox version here. I am somewhat disappointed. It is some ways better and worse compared to the first (and the first was crap!).

Decal placement is a PITA. It is not smooth or precise at all. Extremely way too sensitive. Want to position it just right? Well it is going to take a few tries. One little move equals to one huge move. This is a major problem for me.

Picking and adjusting colors are crap. There is now no color box or chart (whatever you call it). Before was much better and easier.

Tried to paint the top of my Miata black. The rectangle shape was lighter than the circle shape. That is right, it is maxed out to black and somehow the circle shape was darker. Another major problem for me.

The only better things are more decals, no limit in decal sizes, custom livery slots, and mirror mode.

Doing detailed paint jobs will be a nightmare. If you have OCD then forget it.

Screw them for not doing their homework and having incompetent testers. There is also a great chance any of this will not be fixed. There is no excuse considering there are older games out there that do an excellent job.

Your mileage may vary.

As a graphic designer, I'd have to say that it is more or less pants, they could have done alot better seeing as they hired Andy Blackmore

Do you think that it would be possible to Flying Lizard livery on the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR?
See my avatar.

PS3 is the same, precise detail is impossible with the way it jumps and the fact that the view system is beyond poor is mind boggling. I managed to do a simple Scheme on a Cobalt but would have really liked to try something more complex but it's just a huge pain to do so.

It would be cool if you could download liveries and crap like that off the Internet.
Kin of like mods for PC...

yea i wish there was a way to build skins on a PC, that way we could build some nicer stuff. I'm sure someone will master it but won't be able to share.

Actually, that looks pretty slick, I may have to do something along those lines myself. For some reason it never occurred to me that I should stick somebody else's name on my car.

Or like... forza?

Forza remains the gold standard for console livery creation and livery and vinyl sharing/selling. It has it's flaws, but compared to Shift 2 it's Photoshop Professional.

Thankfully we get mutilple decent canned liveries for each car in Shift 2. I can live with that.

If these money hungry software publishers (EA, PD?) were smart they would offer good livery editor software as DLC. I'd pay.

I'm a graphic designer so the inability to accurately place objects where i want, see exactly what I'm doing and copy objects i've already made to any panel on the car is frustrating and aggravating the hell out of me LOL.

Too bad EA is more about making a quick and easy buck. That's why you always see their DLCs not long or even right after release.
If it's not coded yet then it will not come as a DLC.

The preset liveries are sweet. I was really excited when I found out about those. There's even an APR one for my GTI. :)
Most, around 90%, of the liveries I used in Forza were downloaded anyway, so the preset ones work fairly well for my purposes. I just want something that looks like a race car, preferably similar to one of my favorites, or a classic. Shift seems to do a good job with that part.

That's a cool Cobalt.

So the PS3 also has this problem too. Damn. Even if you tried making a POS livery editor it would not be this bad. WTF...really. After trying to use that crap from the first Shift they now return with some different crap.

If anything they should have stuck with what the old NFS games had. Better than this garbage.

Forza's was good, but Midnight Club's system is much better.

i need to play with it more but it had different stripes but couldn't even change the color from what i have found so far. Another thing is the logos are kind of small so blowing them up pixelates them a bit so a close up of the car isn't to pretty. There are still more patterns for me to unlock along with the wheels i want.

I think i spent more time messing with that car in the livery editor than actually racing.

I take back some things I have said. The sizing limitations and and logos are pure crap like you have mentioned. It actually gets worse as I play with it more.

It cuts down the replay value and people's creativity. Like that tool from Speedhunters claimed this and that and how the whole thing was revamped. STFU.

Fix your crap.

Another problem found. While putting on logos and mirroring to the other side the logos go back to default angle. I had to re-rotate to the correct angle where I had set it before.

I'm still upset that I can't make the Studie GLAD Racing Z4 lol. That's all I want!
